You're wasting keystrokes Heggsy, a good amount of this thread is vehemently anti-English when it comes to footy .

Rooney isn't what he used to clearly but at one point he was one of the most feared players on the planet and a straight up beast.

This is why Manchester United is the biggest club in the world.

Love 'em or hate 'em,you just can't stop talking about 'em...

I think people are calling Rooney overrated cause he is garbage for the national team even though he's supposed to be the savior of English football. Correct me if I'm wrong, but hasn't he been set up out of position for MU for the past few years? Hence the fewer number of goals? Can't call him washed up for Man United if that's the case.

I do agree 95% of English players in recent years have been trash, but Rooney isn't one of them IMO. Until the past couple years he was a consistent threat for MU.

Rooney would not start for any other top team in the world but he's y'all's hero for some reason. Dude is so average.

Depay is not the best signing of the summer... Costa is. Dude is going to kill this year.
Depay = sterling in terms of summer signings.

I meant what I said, Depay is the best signing for ANY club this summer. For how young he is, how much potential, and how talented he is, United got him for a great price, which was like 10 million €uros less than Luke Shaw.

I'll give you Costa tho because it's arguable. He is filthy, but he's a bit older but I get it. It's close.

Rooney also finished 5th in the 2011 Ballon Do'r behind Messi, Ronaldo, Xavi and Iniesta.

So obviously his fellow players and coaches agreed that he was at that point, world class.

I'm not defending Rooney because I'm English, you'll find 99.9% of English football fans (myself included) have overall been disappointed with Wayne for not living up to his potential.

That's all this about (or should be about), he didn't live up to the hype and he's overrated - this isn't some anti-English rhetoric from my side. The top 5 stuff, is another argument. I don't think he's ever been top 5 material but he was indeed one of the best players in the world for a very minimal amount of years.

However, Do United not deserve better than this? - I think so. I'm actually rooting for him tho, I want him to shut me up this season because he needs to step up. No more excuses, I'm just tired of them.

I do not like brining basketball into this thread because it has potential to be NBA thread type of ignorance - but comparing Rooney's career to Kobe Bryant is God damn...

DISRESPECTFUL!!!!!

Never occurred to me that Pedro is 5'5" tall :smh: he's still a baller but we have enough short dudes up in the attack as is

My bad, didn't realize the Kobe comment came from Quick. That's standard procedure I shouldn't have been surprised.

Aubameyang has been playing really good for a while for Dortmund, I really hope that team can keep it going and challenge Bayern. Also I don't think i've ever heard anyone badmouth Dortmund like most people I know who took footy have a soft spot for that club.

But being honest though, I definitely have to give it to ManU for the signings and progress they've made since the departure of Fergie. Moyes was a huge bump in the road that was unexpected having one of the best managers in the game retire and the club picks up the pieces which was expected. I do believe in LVG and it does take time to adjust to everything before everyone puts ManU as a top 3 EPL team again.

Same thing happened to Jose when he said first year back that he doesn't expect to win the league (that year). LVG said almost the same thing ("fire me if I don't win it the league in two seasons"). ManU's and now LVG's drive is what makes them a top tier club in the world even if they fell off for a bit. Those are the characteristics that other clubs need to adapt to succeed. And yes I know money is a problem for some teams but others can't complain (looking at you Liverpool, no offense to their fans)

If they win the league this season I honestly wouldn't be mad or turned off because it'll make me once again believe in the magic of footy whereas both working on the field and off the field will bring you the results unlike other top sports in the world. best recent occurrence I can think of is LVG in the WC with subbing off the GK and winning the PKs. I've talked to many footy heads and not such big footy heads about that event and many of them said they lost respect for that man calling it a low blow, the GK was icing the kickers and what not while I'm watching in managerial genius happen before my eyes. was it a coincidence that it was LVG with the Dutch and now him at ManU? maybe, maybe not but I still stand here

and this is all coming from a chelsea fan

Pedro needs to hurry up and pick a number I just bought a hazard home kit and want to get Pedro on the black third kit.

I should wait and see if they get Pogba

Dammit I'm going to miss Arsenal/Liverpool Monday.

I hope the Goons come out on top

Nobody would be talking ab Man U if u dudes weren't in here with how you were acting 2 weeks ago

It's just funny how quickly things changed and now Chelsea and City are getting all the players.

United is literally the only club I could really mess with from England if they're ever ran like the Fergie days. They always play an attractive brand, aren't a team of assorted mercenaries, have a bigger than England vibe despite representing the country well domestically. I actually even own a jersey

So there's no ill will or obsession. A lot of this just has to do with the behavior of the fans here before. And then when I watched the match last week and was like wait...THIS is the side that you guys are going crazy about. It's literally an embarrassment to the standard.
