FOX SPORTS REACHES OUT TO FAN GROUPS
September 10, 2015 Jody Strauch

While Fox Sports may have been a little slow at the self-promotion game at the start of this year’s Bundesliga season, the network is making up time, reaching out to fan groups to help build the German league here in the U.S. The first weekend, the network was live withthe third largest Bayern Munich fan club in the U.S., located in Los Angeles. And this weekend they’re headed east — to Brauhaus Schmitz, home to the Bundesliga Fan Coalition.

“Fox Sports 1 contacted Doug (Hager, owner of Brauhaus Schmitz) last night and asked to be a part of our September 12 watch party,” said Mike Barber, of the BFC. “They want to set up a camera to show live reactions back to the studio in Los Angeles. We are trying to get as many people to arrive between 8:30 a.m. and 9 a.m. ET as possible because they’ll be setting up prior to their pre-match show.”

FC Bayern Munich was a help in getting the word to Fox Sports about these fan groups. Marketing personnel with the club have been in talks with Fox executives and send them information now and then about Bundesliga groups and activities in the U.S. Personnel sent them the Fanatic article from last month about Bundesliga fan clubs.

And it appears Fox is indeed serious about reaching out to fans. Doug Langner, of KC Bundesliga, a fan group in Kansas City, said he was contact this last week by someone at Fox who plans to visit a future Kansas City watch party.

And more and more fan groups are starting, including one in Austin that, according to fan Chris Wilkes, took over a Tottenham bar to watch the game, part of a tailgating party before the University of Tennessee football game — a mix of two cultures.

Barber said it is very important for Americans to see these Bundesliga fan groups.

“America needs groups like Philly BFC, KC Bundesliga, and fans that support the league as a whole, rather than the hostile fans that we know are out there,” Barber said. “It’s extremely important to focus on growing Bundesliga in America and pushing Fox to add more matches on Fox Sports 1.”

I have a strong feeling Chicha's move to Bayer Leverkusen had something to do with the new Bundesliga/Fox Sports deal. Now they're going to be showing more Bundesliga games on Fox Deportes, which is not a channel that you gotta buy a separate package for [emoji]128077[/emoji][emoji]128077[/emoji]

I feel its just coincidence really. Chicha wanted to play in europe and none of the rumored teams had that. West ham failed to go to the europa league. Leverkusen was the only one playing CL this year.

You could be right, but I feel it's just coincidence.

Bruhhh. No, just no. At least the crest or a shirtless running Aguero? But the play by play is a first

Interesting facts about the Basque people. Never knew that. I actually used to hate Athletic Bilbao for that and thought they were Xenophobic for not allowing non Basque players to play for them...now I see the light so I'll just go ahead and let them be great.

Ohh and the Fox/Bundesliga deal was not made for Chicharito
It was done sometime around this time of year in 2014 or earlier in the year. It was announced a loooong time ago in the old thread.

Even with Fox saying they are serious about showing Bundesliga games I won't believe it till I see it on my TV screen. Hard to believe such words when they'll show Nascar, non ranked college football games on Saturdays a majority of the time

I have Comcast and even NBC Sports will show replays of full matches and highlight shows on "On Demand" Fox has yet to have any extra features for people unless we sign up for their stuff. Honestly they are making it hard on themselves trying to grow interest when they themselves don't even look interested in showcasing the Bundesliga.

I can watch that City winning the league moment everyday along with Watford winning vs Leicester.

I watch the Man City one every once in awhile. It was amazing watching everything unfold between the fans, players, Man United, etc

I still remember that day. Listened to both matches while flying to Dallas. Once City won, I started yelling on the plane...the looks I got :smh:

I was streaming it at the time. It was a high I never felt before. Emotions were being played with that day. I only recently started to follow City a year or so before 2012 but that was the year I actually paid attention to footy.

I lost all hopes after being down 2-1. I honestly missed the Dzeko equalizer since I was outside smoking since I thought for sure it was over. Had my window opened and I heard a bit of excitement so I came back to my computer screen in a quickness. Witnessed the Balotelli to Aguero moment and was shooook when it went in. Woke up my parents and got yelled at but it was worth it :pimp:

Truth be told, around a year ago I became a football fan. Mostly because of FIFA and playing it with friends (it was the one game I wasn't good at

) but watching that video and seeing the emotions the game brought out of people made me realize, hey, it isn't a boring game after all. Honestly don't know how I didn't become a City fan after seeing that. The Gunners were a dope *** nickname I guess lol, wish they wouldn't cause so much hardship and actually go all out with their spending.
