We haven't had a great hood film in a while. Paid in Full was probably the last one. Off the top of my head...my favorites in no particular order are:

The Friday series
Menace
City of God
Belly
Juice
New Jack City
Above the rim
Baby Boy
Dead Presidents
In 2 Deep
Fresh
New Jersey Drive
Do the right thing
State Property
Clockers

I'd like to see a good hood film set somewhere other than NY/LA. Need to make one in Atl or Bmore. ATL was above average.

City of God is the best FILM ever made though :pimp:

Agreed! City of God never gets the love it deserves

Based on some of the responses in this thread, nobody actually paid attention to the dialogue. Not only that, one dude in here really thought O-Dog got away with it in Menace. The guy was shown getting put in a cop car. He was done for. The cops had him based on evidence.I don't know what more people want.

I get what you saying, I agree. But I still don't know how that correlates with Ricky saying "v-****" instead of "*****"

I haven't seen the movie in a long time so I don't know. Maybe he doesn't use racial slurs? Speech impediment? Shook to the point he couldn't get his words right?

The internet kind of removed the provocative nature and allure of the inner city, what was once dramatized is now glamorized and widely available on social networking platforms, Youtube and Worldstar Hip-Hop.

Couldn't agreed more with this. Hell, to a lesser extent, House Party 1 & 2 could be considered hood movies, but look what happened to it more than 20 years later

Straight up sucked the soul out the original [/Video]

Whatever happened to

She used to be hella dark, what happened? I prefer the dark Alysia. Tarij Henson has her eyes.

Damn a hood movie from Bmore, we got The Wire :pimp: That trumps all.

Only 1 mention of Belly so far? Smh

We gotta do a hood movie March madness type bracket. To see what's #1

Whoever watched City of God, peep City of Men tv series and the City of Men Film both are classics. Also peep Elite Squad 1 and 2 films more classic Brazil hood films

Belly was better to look at than it was to watch, if you get where I'm coming from..

Belly has some AMAZING scenes but collectively, it's not ******* w Menace II Society or Paid In Full.

Some of these Belly scenes though :smokin

- Intro at the club
- Ike Love pulling up in Lex at the barber shop
- Ike in the scrip club and the shootout
- Shootout at the dope house
- Knowledge in jail on the phone with Ike
- Buns in Jamaica
- Final shootout scene in the mansion

Yeah, I too was pretty upset with the decision Ricky made...I was shook at the end when Doughboy was offed. Bummer.

If I remember correctly LA had a terrible Dorito shortage in the 90s. They had to ration it out. So it's understandable.

in the commentary on the dvd Hype said a lot got stripped away from the Belly theatrical release where it didn't really turn out how he wanted

I would love to see that director's cut

Clockers is dope. Shout out to the homie Mekhi.

you obviously can't comprehend yourself

I said it didn't show the full consequences

it said what happened to him in text

I don't watch the movie anymore cause the negative impact it had on the community is the point

they showed 2 hrs of violence and 15 seconds of consequences

which will young people remember?

There's two bulls standing on top of a mountain. The younger one says to the older one: "Hey pop, let's say we run down there and **** one of them cows". The older one says: "No son. Lets walk down and **** 'em all".
