my all shooting guard team was ahead of its time

NBA 3.0

Connie Hawkins is tough to evaluate, two great years in the early early days of the ABA against poor competition, and a mediocre injury laden NBA career.

While we're at it... LOL @ Micheal Jordan being drafted.

Dude was a below average 3 point shooter. Analytics say he was stupid for shooting so many jumpers, even the one that won his 6th ring.

Horrible pick.

I don't really see a problem with an AD Yao front line on offense, I don't think it's synergistic, it produces some redundancy but you could make it work.

yeah 3 > 2 but if you don't have 3pt range & shoot the midrange jumper at a 50% clip why not stay where you're comfortable?

not every PF has to be a stretch 4

LOL @ Wilt Chamberlain or Bill Russell being taken in a 3 point shooting era.

Didn't the Warriors teach you guys anything last season?

Less players like Wilt,
More players like Mike Pennberthy and The Professor from And 1 Mixtapes. 3 point shooters are more valuable than any other position.

Because the average player is lucky to hit 40% from two point jump shots.

I was shocked Manu was available this late. Made me feel a lot better about taking Barry over a big in round 2.

I don't see what all the commotion is about the 3 and shooting being at a premium in the current NBA. It's pretty obvious that shooting the 3 is only going to get more and more popular in the future.

I really think the whole mid range/3 argument varies from player to player. The demar derozen/ dion waiters midrange jumper is an awful shot versus the chris Paul pick and roll pull up. Same thing with Dirk vs josh smith.

In today's NBA, I don't think you can be a successful pick and roll player without being a great mid range shooter. If you're an off the ball guard/ wing, you're almost wasting your time shooting mid range jumpers.

the point is to get the best possible shot, sometimes its a 3 sometimes its a midrange shot sometimes its a layup

depends on what the defense gives you and who has the ball

to say mid range shots are bad because 3>2 is elementary thinking

Exactly, most wings should be tryna shoot relatively open 3's and attacking the rim/drawing fouls.

Mid range shots are terrible unless you're Chris Bosh, Anthony Davis, LMA level.

This isn't rocket science, this is the general hierarchy of shots from best to worst

1. Dunks/layups
2. Free throws
3. Corner threes
4. Above the break threes
5. Midrange

An individual player can base their offense on the mid range (Dirk, Kobe, Aldridge, etc.), but an entire team building their offense around the mid range would be idiotic and a death sentence.

No ones argued that tho. It's just dudes acting like having the ability to knock down the midrange IF NEEDED is a bad thing.

No one here has said a single time "MIDRANGE SHOTS ARE THE BEST"

All I said that sparked this **** is Yao can knock down a 14 footer if left open and he has to shoot it.

Then all kinds of obnoxious analytics analysis begun.

Having the ability to do something > not being able to.

That's also common sense, so I don't understand why all the hammering away started in the first place.

analytics in basketball really make the sport unenjoyable. i now know how old people feel when sabermetrics are brought up in baseball. except sabermetrics are 10x more meaningful.

well of course you cant have 5 players shooting midrange shots just like you cant ahve 5 people in the paint or no one stepping inside the 3pt arc

but if you have an individual player base their offense on the midrange (see names you listed) and you as the team base your offense around the star player then you are basing your offense around the midrange. even if you have guys who can slash and post up and people in the corners

my making the defense focus on one aspect (midrange, 3pt, layup) makes it easier for the other aspects to open up, which brings us back to take the best/open shot.

analytics nerds feel the need to take everything to extremes (for attention, since they dont actually play basketball to get actual attention)

so they like to go with the attention grabbing arguments like "midrange shots are terrible" rather than "sometimes there are better options than shooting a midrange shot"

i love how the warriors are this barometer for the new nba. like they didn't go 6 games against a team that had literally 1 good player and 11 role players who were above average at best. or the fact the warriors had the greatest shooter of all time. or the fact they were the best defensive team in the league last year. but yeah, 3 pointers is all that matters.
