NT's All Time NBA ReDraft Thread: GR8 Write Up Page 187, Bracket Final Vote

Shout out to my homie sea.

I'm moving Gil to the bench as a super sub 6th man and taking a guy who was once up there in the conversation as the best PG in the league.

I have Pippen at SF...I'm filling out my starters and needed a PF. Had no need for Melo.

*edit*

And here's the other thing...rather than saying "i can't believe so and so was taken over ______," maybe you should look at the roster construction of the team/GM you're questioning to see if said player was an actual fit.
I definitely did do that, which is why I named those 2 players in particular as opposed to other players I definitely felt Melo should have been picked ahead of (even left out Wiggins because of the whole "drafting off potential" argument that I don't really agree with but whatever).

Melo has been a great stretch 4. He has been at his best in recent seasons playing the stretch 4 on the Knicks as well as on Team USA (Something that is worth noting on these kind of teams, that are filled up with NBA legends much like Team USA).

If you don't think Melo could play that stretch 4 role better than Jamison, Idk what to tell you. Especially next to a defender/facilitator like Scottie, who is basically the ideal player to share the frontcourt with Melo because they would compliment each other so well. I mean I would get it if guys like Rice or Jamison were lock down defenders or some **** (like Artest, for instance) but Jamison was one of the worst defenders I have ever seen and was a consistent good numbers, losing team kind of player.

Melo isnt a lockdown specialist by any means, but he is better defensively than Twan and Rice ever were, and also the better scorer. Plus Melo, up until recent seasons on God-awful Knicks teams, never played on a loser like Jamison did for 75% of his career. Also, through Team USA, Melo has shown the ability to be a focal point and even step up his game in a complimentary role when he plays with the best of the best. Jamison was never that kind of player...

Take your personal feelings out of it for a second. I get the Knicks and Melo are your team/guy, but he has ZERO place on the squad I'm constructing. I don't get why this is so hard for you to understand.

Individually, OF COURSE, Melo > Jamison. However, FOR THE TEAM I MADE, I have no place for a ball dominant SF/sometimes PF. I wanted a guy who strictly played the 4, and Jamison was my pick. As good as Melo is scoring, Jamison is absolutely no slouch himself. He can score from the post, shoot the mid-range, and go beyond the arc. What more would I want out of my 4? On top of it all, he THRIVED playing with a ball dominant player in Gilbert Arenas and another high-usage player in Caron Butler. I don't understand why my selection of him over Melo is so hard to grasp.

You bring up two things that are irrelevant:

1. Defense. I have a capable big in Sabonis...one of the best defenders in NBA history in Pippen, and an EXCELLENT perimeter defender in Richmond. If you looked at my team, you'd know that even with Jamison being a liability on the defensive end, he'd EASILY be able to be hidden (much like how Thibs did with Boozer) due to how strong the team is around him on that end of the floor. Not to mention, you have zero clue what direction I'm going in with my PG selection.

2. FIBA Melo. IRRELEVANT. We're not judging him based off of international play when 98% of his career was spent playing here in the states. Completely different than looking at someone like Sabonis who made his mark over in Europe before coming over.

I love the construction of my team so far, and I think for what I'm doing, Jamison was a logical fit.

Another thing, Gilbert Arenas is one of my favorite players all time. He lasted a long time in this particular draft. Individually, you can probably make a case for him being better than some of the other PGs taken ahead of him. However, when you look at how folks are building their teams it's easy to see why players like him and Melo get picked later than some expect.

GR8, I know you love nothing more than your NY Knicks and are a knowledgeable basketball head, but your post reeked of homerism due to the fact you aren't even thinking about how each GM participating here is making their roster.
