NT's All Time NBA ReDraft Thread: GR8 Write Up Page 187, Bracket Final Vote

@JJs07
I respect your opinion but there really wasnt a lot of homerism in what I said. I could have easily went with homerism and mentioned where I felt Melo should really go :smile:lol ), but it reached a certain point where it just didnt make logical sense to me as a basketball fan, which in turn got me agitated as a Melo/Knicks fan.

Melo is only an inch or so smaller than Jamison and has shown the ability to be an excellent stretch 4. He is superior to Jamison in pretty much every single aspect of the game and Jamison was never in Melo's class as a player. I don't think that part is worth arguing because you even admitted as such.

I get that FIBA is pretty irrelevant for Melo looking at stats an all that, HOWEVER I brought it up and think that it holds relevance in the sense that Olympic Melo is an example that Melo can not only fit, but STRIVE, as a complimentary scorer/stretch 4 when playing alongside the most elite talent. I think in that sense, Melo has proven himself to be a lot more than a ball dominating volume scorer when he is surrounded by superior talent and doesnt need to dominate the ball offensively to be effective.

On the other hand, Jamison has only proven to be a solid stretch 4/ defensive liability on a lower-mid tier playoff team in the weak Eastern Conference, and his teams never sniffed the playoffs when he was the go-to guy when he was younger. He was always the classic solid numbers, ****** team, borderline all-star, kind of player. You really think Jamison is that stretch 4 you are looking for surrounded by HOF talent? Or would you prefer Melo, who has proven to be an elite stretch 4 among HOFers?

In that regard, I think Melo would have been a better forward to pair with Scottie and the rest of your guys. And unlike Jamison, Melo was able to take his squad to the WCF as the go-to guy (a couple plays away from upsetting the eventual champion Lakers in '09) while Jamison was never able to lead his team to the playoffs in a similar position. IMO, Melo has shown he is better than Jamison, even in a complimentary role.

There are two things here:

1. Individual Melo vs. Individual Jamison. Like I said...there is ZERO debate. Melo is 10x the player that Antawn Jamison is. It's not even debatable.

2. Team-fit Melo vs. Team-fit Jamison. This is where it gets murky. Look at my squad.

Sabonis
PF
Pippen
Richmond
PG

There is zero logical reason for me to plug in a sometimes stretch 4 in Melo for this team. He's ball-dominant. For the reasons I already outlined, Jamison is a better fit FOR THIS TEAM because he has proven he can be an efficient scorer in the NBA while not being the go-to player (primarily playing PF).

You bring up FIBA Melo...this is not who anyone participating in this draft would be selecting. The Melo that would be drafted would be a ball-dominant, ISO-heavy, player. If you have a team that is lacking a SF and is going to have trouble scoring the ball, yea...by all means, select Melo. Makes perfect sense.

If you have a team like mine that is strong defensively, unselfish offensively, but could use a scoring boost...Jamison is a fantastic fit.

I'm just going to go ahead an quote seymore cake seymore cake , because he perfectly summed up what I've been trying to say in only 1 line:

Talent is always a + but I'm making a team that's going to do work and legitimately have a realistic chance to win every game they step on the floor.

We're going to have to agree to disagree on this one, bro.

Now, I haven't looked at other rosters...but maybe you should @ some other GMs and see why they took certain SFs over Melo. I think my reasoning makes sense.

Don't know if that squad is strong enough to carry LeBron to another title tho.

Feel bad for LeBron, He needs more help.

I was hoping Cake would go FU mode and shift LeBron to starting PF with Wall and Carter. But alas...

right, instead of taking my center :rolleyes

Might still happen that route depending on who I land with my next pick... That's the luxury of LBJ, I had options to move him anywhere from 1, 3, or 4 depending on who else I could grab.

Only one killer there. You got VC out there like this...

how is lebron going to turn laimbeer into a stretch 4?

looks like a team build around the midrange jumpshot

bill could shoot the 3. made like 15 3's in 2 championship runs for detroit. he was probably one of the first stretch 5's actually

made 156 3's on 454 attempts in a 4 year stretch (34%) as well. Pretty damn good for a center. In today's era, I'm sure he would've been even more lethal as a stretch.

What Bhz said. And he's going to take a lot of charges, rile up/frustrate the **** outta opposing bigs, elbow someone fouling any of his teammates too hard and slid up under your star player when they're coming down from a jumpshot. Everything I need  :pimp: .

@JJs07  Definitely agree to disagree but I will just say that Melo is just Melo.

There is no team oriented Olympic Melo vs selfish iso Knicks Melo. It's a common misconception. The ONLY difference is Melo playing alongside 4 other future HOFers on Team USA vs Melo playing with one or two (tops) other legit NBA talents on the Knicks. One role allows Melo to take a step back while the other forces him to try and do everything (and he does so efficiently I might add, he just cant win with that roster).

I only bring up Olympic Melo because with the teams yall are assembling filled with HOF talents, you could easily use Melo in that role more than the iso-Melo we so often see on the Knicks, especially during the past 2 seasons. Jamison was the same kind of player before he came to the Wizards and started playing alongside better talent. Melo is just a better version of that and is able to do so on Team USA.
PG: Wall
SG: Vince
SF: Crown
PF: Liambeer
C: Walton
Love this squad but IMO you should look for a more athletic 4 (maybe one who can hit from 3 also) and just run the floor non stop with your starters and then bring Laimbeer off the bench when you need the Defense. Laimbeer might slow that group down.

If you wanted a porous defensive big who isn't ball dominant why not take Amar'e who was about five times the player that Antawn Jamison was....I get what your saying the only problem is your defending with Antawn Jamison who was the premier empty numbers guy of his era.

Can we please post names with gifs and pictures? Some of us are very young and have no idea who these players are.
