NT's All Time NBA ReDraft Thread: GR8 Write Up Page 187, Bracket Final Vote

Cannot understand this fascination with modern day duds over legendary NBA players.

You and me both man. Only reason I went with Adams last round is because I knew he wouldn't last, while other really good players from the 70s and 80s would.

Because the modern game is better and has more elite players than any other era, it's already been addressed.

Yall just got nostalgia blinders on, hence why Houston was picked when there are a handful of guys in the league currently just as good who won't be.

Becuase we are the stage of the draft where people are drafting role players. People are electing to choose role players who they know have excelled in specialty positions. Rather than picking a star player who they can't know for sure how impactful they would be as a role players.

also players from the 70's, 80's were worse 3 point shooters, an important skill for role players.

I don't see anything wrong with Rudy Gobert pick.

Do we have nostalgia blinders on or are yall prisoners of the moment. I mean we got dudes with no body of work being drafted over hall of famers.

People want plenty of shooting, and the three pointer didn't exist until '79 and wasn't really utilized much until years later.

But if we're just looking at peak/single year/shorter time frames, what does the body of work really matter?

In the end, there are kinda no wrong answers.

Rudy Gobert is a 7-1 freak defensive athlete, that translates to any era.

Some of the HOF Centers in this redraft are 6-8 flat foots. I would assume Gobert would hold up well against them, unproven or not, no?

It's about their overall skillsets, what they bring to the table, and how they mix in with a team.

For example, BHZ has a solid defensive squad, but I look at it, and think he would still struggle to score some points. Payton is good, but not elite as a shooter. Ron? I mean...... He can bully, but I don't want him spotting up. Roy, sort of negates what Payton offers, because Roy needed the ball in his hands. Payton isn't going to be out there feeding "shooters" like Roy and Ron, right?

Karl can score, no doubt, Payton is gonna run the pick and roll with him, same as Stock did? :nerd:

There's still a piece/fit component to these that go beyond "HOFer".

I could draft AI, Kobe, Melo, and say they are all HOFers, but that don't mean they gonna mesh well, ya know? There's still some nuance needed for each team.

I didn't think we were drafting players based off one season, ala say '92 MJ.

My point of view is, there are PROVEN commodities; HoF'ers and borderline HoF'ers with a career's worth of credentials being passed over for dude's with a year or two of NBA experience.

I think people are too caught up in how the modern game is played today (namely three point shooting) instead of just assembling a good basketball team.

At the end of the day, ya'll can pick whomever you want, but yeah.

I'd put Gobert's rim-protecting during the 2nd half of last year against anyone that was still available to pick.

It's better than most who were picked before him too.

Sample size be dammed, at his peak (which hasn't even come yet really but we talking "body of work") he's as good as any rim protector there is.
