This dude was Drake before Drake yet he actually had some credibility streetwise.  He got #1 songs in 3 genres and he put KRS1 to bed.  Nelly/Kelly was a blueprint.  This dude came into the game in a Marshal Faulk jersey and a rented escalade and went diamond.  He does NOT get the respect he deserves.  Ya'll sleep

You're about to make a bunch of Drake fans mad at that comparison, though it's 100% true. Top 10 though? Ehhhhhh, iono about that

Nelly had to have been more popular than drake. At his peak at least. Dude went diamond, yes it was a different climate but still. "Only dudes moving united em, pimp juice and us."

is drake this generations ja rule or nelly, which one is it

and if nelly is top 10 then wayne is top 5

Agree with everything but top 10. He's numero uno in that drake/Nelly lane but that's it for now.

Never a top ten rapper in a million years but I low key loved the "Suit" album. Even the song with Tim McGraw gets play to this day.

The problem with all you 20 something year old, fake 80s babies, fake elite rap listening MOFOs is that you all actually act like KRS1 is some sort of untouchable legend just because of the era he rapped in.  Dude said what he said and Nelly had the younger generation (reads mass public) behind him and wasn't some lame about it and handled the issue.  KRS1 hasn't been relevant to anything hip-hop related since Criminal Minded, he just one of those old bums who was salty that the torch was passed.  He is the equivalent to that weak *** 45 something in every gym in America who still thinks the NBA looked him over and ends up being annoying trying to prove his worth and draw up plays during open gym.

But yea Nelly is Top 10 in terms of what he was able to accomplish in the music industry based on starting from RAP.  Who came into the game and went diamond their first disk? #1 on rap charts, pop charts, and country charts?

You're on that same stuff Nelly is, aren't you? When are people going to realize that top 10 doesn't equal albums sold.
Album sales? I'm talking spanning multiple genres, fans everywhere, creating a blueprint for your favorite rappers to follow, etc. all FROM RAP...it doesn't hurt he's went diamond on his first attempt.  He really could get you BET and TRL too...when it actually mattered.  Some of ya'll really need help with reading and articulating thoughts.  Nowhere in the OP did it say he was top 10 lyricist, now did it?

If youre talking top 10 most successful rapper then yea you're right. But not critically acclaimed top 10 lol

I think i read somewhere that in the 2000s Nelly outsold everyone...lmaooo
Still find that hard to believe

You seriously disgust me.

Mhmm. Where is he now? It's not like he made himself into anything. There are 10 rap artists in front of him that have done more and have longevity (and a few that have better lyrical ability). I don't know what you're trying to argue. He isn't top 10 of anything.

Son ain't lying tho Nelly is the blue print for a lot of these dudes nowadays. Son had a helluva run and props to him for turning rap into other business ventures, I feel we overlook him in that aspect a lot. Everybody's got their time, trust the dudes that are hot right now won't be hot in 2020, just how this **** goes. I can see a similar drake thread in 6 years and the youngins gonna be laughing like man not that dude.

Nelly really was that dude at one point. De was one of the leading dudes between 00-04. I first saw an advertisement for Country Grammar in some issue of XXL, mainly focusing on that "For My" song with Lil' Wa_n_. I didn't think much of it and basically turned the page and that was it  never did I think he was gonna blow up like he did. I wasn't a big fan of his, but once Batter Up was released, and I heard Steal The Show on some random music station, I went out and bought Country Grammar (along with Free City), and was surprised at how good they both were. I actually became a big fan of Ali more than the rest of them  (his album was meh though). Nelly is top 10 as far as popularity and success, can't deny all the singles and crossover success he had. The Drake comparison is a fitting one. Drake really is Nelly with an extended run. They have multiple similarities that have already been discussed, so don't even need to elaborate.
