The NBA Draft Thread

Well leadership is an intangible. You can't quantify it with numbers. But that's the rep he has with scouts.
I wasn't really looking for numbers. Could be anecdotes of what he does in preparation for games. His training, his practices, his bond with his teammates. Something little or big he's done in a huddle or in the locker room. Anything

It may be intangible but you named qualities that can be exhibited by Fultz outside of elevating his teammates. And we both know Fultz' cast wasn't anywhere close to the Bruins

What did he really "lead: them too? What did UCLA have to overcome this year?

Well they went from 15-17 the year before with a lot of the same players to 31-5 this year. Even the coach said much of that is attributed to Ball and how he came in with a winning demeanor and it rubbed off on everyone else.

It's not like Lonzo doesn't have skills though. It's just his skills + intangibles have him high in a lot of people's minds. And they do matter, especially when you're trying to get a franchise cornerstone. This isn't football.

They arguably (Anigbogu) added 3 1st round picks to last year's team...

1. Celtics: Markelle Fultz
2. Suns: Lonzo Ball
3. Lakers: Josh Jackson
4. Magic: Malik Monk
5. Sixers: Dennis Smith
6. Knicks: Jayson Tatum
7. Kings: De'Aaron Fox
8. Wolves: Lauri Markkanen
9. Mavericks: Frank Ntilikina
10. Kings (via Pelicans): Jon Isaac
11. Pistons: Zach Collins
12. Hornets: Miles Bridges
13. Nuggets: Harry Giles
14. Heat: TJ Leaf
don't see or get why the Magic or Knicks would pass on Fox

I don't think anyone could disagree with this statement, it'd be foolish to

There's just a difference between finding actual advantages Ball has over the other prospects and made up narratives that are being pushed

Doesn't Dennis Smith basically play zero defense? Fox seems like much more of a Brett Brown player than Smith.

Chad Ford? This won't happen.

Absolutely. His pass-first mentality is exactly what guys like Alford/Holiday/Hamilton needed.

In the end I just don't see how Lonzo isn't more than a high-level role player if he can't become really good at shooting/scoring off the dribble. He can really make some incredible passes in transition, but how often is he going to have those opportunities in a normal game compared to how much he will have to play in the halfcourt?

To your transition offense point, he'd actually be a perfect fit in Brooklyn with what Atkinson is trying to do  He has them #1 in pace

From the numbers I was looking at ball is a significantly better shooter than fultz. Not saying he's a better prospect but there are a couple tangible things ball has the advantage in

I said it before but Lonzo in Philly is the perfect match. He fills a need and they don't need him to do anything he can't do.

Absolutely...If only they hadn't made a certain trade a few years back....

Like I've said before, Ball's red flags jump off the page.

He can't shoot off the dribble, can't play in the midrange, can't really dribble, hasnt' played in the PnR, and can't beat his guy off the bounce. All of these severely limit his ability to do what he does best, which is pass.
