The NBA Draft Thread

F a "pass first" culture, they just need a "pass to Embiid and be ready for the double team kickout" culture.

They need shooters around him, not Lonzo Ball.

Lonzo can't shoot?

Plus I have faith in Saric's work ethics and IQ that he will develop a reliable shot. Plus Embiid already a threat from the arc. Saric and Simmons will see limited minutes together leaving space to include other shooters.
Ehh IDK about Lonzo's shot in the NBA.  I also think you do want Saric and Simmons together if they're as good as we expect, and with Simmons as a primary ballhandler/playmaker I think you want a deadeye shooter in the other spot.  He doesn't even need to be a great passer.

I like "pass first" but you need shooting in the modern NBA.  It really hurts to have sub-par 3-point shooters at any of the wing positions much less two.

The Sixers surprisingly were actually in the upper half of the league in three point shooting this year if I remember correctly, the year before that they were like last in the league. Their assistant coaches and Brett Brown should get a ton of credit for developing young players. They want Dario to be a good three point shooter and get more comfortable with his outside shot so they basically demanded that he shot at least 5 threes per game this year  and Embiid's shot developed like a MF'er in his time away while he was injured. Even Noel developed a pretty decent midrange shoot when he wanted to shoot, and Holmes was knocking down threes this year. I'm hoping they've had Simmons shooting like a billion threes a day in preparation for next season.

True, and I think they do understand the importance of spacing and shooting.  But my point was just about the draft, I think of all the teams that need a primary playmaker like Lonzo the sixers aren't it.  They have Simmons and could benefit from a great not just good shooter in the backcourt.

What makes y'all think that Lonzo won't be good in a catch and shoot role? Other than passing, that's his best attribute.

Scoring off the dribble is his weakness, but it wouldn't be amplified as much in Philly playing off Simmons and Embiid...

His shot looks off.  I know his %s in college are OK but that's a warning sign.

He has weird mechanics, but he's always confident shooting it and it goes in at a good rate. Where the mechanics really screw with him is when he has to pick the ball up off the dribble and move it to the other side of his body. It's too slow of a movement and he is going to need a lot of space to get it off. It's the main reason, IMO, that he only shot like 10 mid range shots all year.

Wouldnt someone like Malik Monk be perfect for Philly? A sg who can flat out shoot
He would. I think the biggest issue is that he just hasn't really shown that he can bring anything else to the table...Still don't think he'd be a bad pick for them though by any means.

He was also shooting A LOT of NBA-range 3s.

But that was him having to create that distance just to get it off. And that was against average defense, relative to the defenders he's going to face at the next level.

Not to mention, he's not going to be guarded by the opposing team's 1 like he was this past season, but their wings, so that length is going to bother the heck out of him and his mechanics.

I'm not buying him, even as a spot up shooter at the next level.

He shot plenty of 3s where he was just catching and shooting as the ball was swinging around. He was not the one that had to create that distance all the time. I completely agree that he'll be up against better defenders and he's going to have a much harder time creating distance. In an offense with good spacing and several high IQ passers, Lonzo should be able to shoot his fair share of open 3s.

I've been very critical of him all year as a prospect, maybe even too critical, but I do think he knows how to play within himself and doesn't take many dumb shots. I think he can still maintain a 3P% in the high 30s if not 40. In order to become a star though, he's going to need to be able get into the paint and score a lot more than he did at UCLA, and I'm just not sure if he can do that.

You shed a tear huh..

ill always defend him...always got a bad wrap imo.

the draft is like 90% guessing, anyone who has their draft opnions on wax for 18 years can be mocked easily.

but he's a plugged in guy who always has good info on what GM's are thinking. You can take or leave his scouting opinions but this idea that he was some buffoon with nothing to offter was always un fair.

What about his draft rankings changing retroactively? Just a bad look.

that was super silly.

but it doesn't negate the rest of the good work he did.

I don't judge people based on their worst public moment asduming he did change the rankings.

Chad Ford, Marc Stein and Andy Katz all laid off from ESPN....was there really nobody else they could have let go other than these guys that were important fixtures of NBA insiders/journalists?

Meanwhile, Jemele Hill and Michael Smith have been given their own terrible *** version of Sportscenter.

There's probably 15 people that could/should be let go before them
