I'm sure there are NTers in med school right now. Whether you're just starting off, doing residency, or already practicing, chime in so we know who you are.

I'm currently an MSII at Midwestern, Glendale campus. Feel pretty confident that I wanna do Diagnostic Radiology. Currently ranked #17 out of 264 students (3.98 GPA). I know it doesn't matter and it comes down to board store, so I'm open to any lessons you guys may wanna bestow.

My dream residency program is UCLA as their Diagnostic Radiology program is top 10 in the nation. But I don't think they're DO friendly so there's that :smh:

I'm a current rads resident.

I like rads but it's been getting consistently less competitive as reimbursement goes down and hours go up.

Try to ignore that and figure out if rads is really for you. Concentrate on killing Step 1 and maintaining that gpa first.

Not to burst your bubble but UCLA is going to be a tough match (I'm from CA but went out of state for allopathic med school. AOA. 260 Step. 3.95 gpa. No interview). There are plenty other really good programs that are DO friendly though.

Also UCLA is really popular bc of location but it isn't necessarily a top 10 program (no official rankings btw)

Currently practicing radiologist.

Rads is still a great field but as young doc said the competition to get in has been going down. When i matched there were 6 open spots that immediately filled bow there are 40 to 80 open spota each year.

Salaries are going down and the need to read faster keeps going up. Also harder to find a good partner track gig.

All said i still love it!

Also UCLA is going to very very difficult to get into regardless of you are do or not but that makes it even harder. My program has never matched a DO. We do have DO fellows though.

I dont think the name is all that huge unless you want to definitely go into academics. It does matter but not the end all be all. Make sure you go somewhere where you will see a lot of pathology amd also a lot of trauma.
You want to have horribly busy call nights while you will hate it when you are doing it you will be somewhat more prepared for the insane pace that exists in private practice.

My 2 cents. You are an Ms2 and haven't really gotten your feet wet. You may or may not change your mind on what you want to go into. Just go for what you enjoy whether it is at the bottom of the payscale or the top of the payscale. Some docs are not happy and pretty grumpy

If you don't mind me asking, where did you go for residency?
