Easy. He probably lived a quick drive from the location. Reporters aren't there for a few minutes and then bounce. They setup in advance and the station was likely mentioning how they were going to be there during the morning broadcast as it was a featured segment.

most news reporters are used to people aroudn them and  they work in tunnel vision..

i was thinking that too.... makes sense 

it's just weird to me.... im just paranoid in general.... get too close to me and im playing out 100 scenarios in my head of what's about to happen

It was before 7am and they weren't at the station. He had to have been stalking them and he was probably looking for an opportunity.
 
Katie Love, who knew Flanagan while she worked for a competing station in Roanoke, remembered him as "almost like the joke of the market."

"Very odd guy, huge personality," she told NBC News. "He really felt like everybody was out to get him."

She said she was not surprised by the tweets sent after the attack "because it was always a race issue with him. He always felt like people were racist."

KPIX, the CBS station in San Francisco, said that Flanagan worked there as an intern and a writer from 1993 to 1995. An employee at WTOC in Savannah, Georgia, confirmed that Flanagan worked there in the late 1990s.

And in 2000, Flanagan sued a Florida station that had fired him, alleging racial discrimination, according to a newspaper report at the time.

"Vester was an unhappy man," Jeff Marks, the general manager of WDBJ, said on the station's noon newscast. "He had a reputation for being difficult to work with."

Marks said that Flanagan was fired "after many incidents of his anger coming forward" and was escorted from the building by police. His LinkedIn page said that he worked for WDBJ for a year, until February 2013.

And in 2000, after he was fired from a station in Tallahassee, Florida, he sued the station alleging racial discrimination, according to a newspaper report at the time.

Didn't watch any of the videos and probably never will, just some things are better left unseen

Made sure it was on live tv.
Uploaded it to Facebook.
Tweeted about it.
And had a manifesto faxed to ABC News.

Dude used every form of media possible to be an a******.

WOW.  That video is crazy.  I feel terrible for the families of the people that died.  To get executed at work...SMH

I guess there is a POV vid, I only saw the video that was on the news.  Filming your murders....WTF is going on out here!!!!!????

I don't know how many people can take multiple shots into the chest from point blank range and then turn around & run instead of immediately crumpling to the ground.

It's obvious he missed at least 1 of the first 2 shots, she started running, he kept firing.
