Hillsboro High School students stage walkout in dispute over transgender student

This is so wrong. We are now letting children decide life changing events for themselves and they have yet to experience life. Where are the parents? How are letting children that they provide for make their decisions?

Clearly some of these children are experiencing something inside of them before they "experience life". So what do you suggest?

what life experiences has child gone through? They havent even paid bills.
Can you read? I said some children who feel like they are transgendered are clearly experiencing something inside of them regardless if they have life experience. So what solution do you suggest?

This won't end well. There will be many more angry parents.

I still believe they should just make a 3rd bathroom for them man
Well in the case quoted the federal decision states that transgenders can use any locker room they "identify" with. Parents and the school disagree because it exposes the girls to male genitalia at a young age.

This will have nationwide implications.

its weird how all the fake outraged keyboard warrior apologist from the caitlyn jenner thread seem to be ghost for this thread when this is exactly what people were talking about in the other thread

I'm sure I posted in here already so maybe I'm repeating myself but at this point why not just clean out a janitor's closet or storage room and make a trans bathroom for trans women and trans men?

While on one hand it's just a lavatory and all you should be doing is #1 and #2 and washing up. In and out but there's no reason at all you should force female students (or male students) who are uncomfortable with this to deal with it.

Why do that when most likely the so called transgender young man would still feel like an outcast by going to "his" own bathroom. Remember...in his mind he sees himself to be a girl and wants to use the bathroom with those he identifies with.

my family and i were having this discussion the other day about PROP 1 here in houston...why not make a unisex bathroom for all public bathrooms...?

If he feels like an outcast well that's tough. Deal with that ****. Plenty teens feel like outcasts in HS.

In this case my solution directly addresses what he is regardless of how he feels. You can feel like you're a girl, dress like one, even get surgery to technically be one but lets break it down and the fact is you were born male, so here's your born male but transitioned to being a woman lavatory. That solutions considers all sides who have an issue.

If he's expecting the school to force others to accept and be comfortable with him well that aint right in this sort of situation.

The South Park solution.

No doubt it's up to the children imo.

I know of young kids open and tolerant of all that LBGT stuff. They'll grow up to be teens and be comfortable with it.

I think that's what should matter. There'll probably be unisex bathrooms sooner than later.

Of course it'll only take some gang rape or sexual attack in one of those to set things back a great deal.

I hear you and agree with you on the "that's tough" notion. That's why I think the students or school staff shouldn't give in to his request and should just make him use the boys bathroom. I don't care if the school has 20 free storage rooms or 0. At the end of the day his a kid and doesn't know what's best or is easily influenced by outsiders. Not to mention I believe this a public school....a charter or private school wouldn't deal with this foolishness.

Times are changing though. Eventually this won't be about one boy wanting this but several and then the same thing with girls who believe they should be men.

Public schools will have to address this.

In NYC, there are already a few specialized LBGT schools so this isn't as a big of a problem but I'd say segregation is not an answer and definitely won't work nationwide.

it's not "up to the children".

What issue in how a school operates would we leave "up to the children"? that's crazy This aint the high school prom.

My general opinion on this stuff is why do we give so much credence to what a bunch of high school kids think, I rmemeber myself at that age, and not a single person should have considered my feelings in deciding school policy.

Look it's tough for these girls that they were born in a time of social change or upheaval, and Im happy I aint have to deal with it but thems the breaks.

Life aint fair., and other people will make uncomfortable sometimes, you're just going to have to deal with it.

I'm talking about being comfortable with it. That's up to the children.

The adults can not force students to be comfortable with this or accept it. An attempt would only backfire and increase bullying.

Of course the actual decision is up to the school. Thing is this probably wouldn't even be a thread if the majority of students were accepting and comfortable with this situation.

yeah im saying whether the students accept it or not if the decision rolls down that she gets to be in the girls locker room they will be forced to accept it and it will be the school responsibility to punish any bullies.

not you Zik but some people in this thread need to read the tealeves on this stuff, because it's pretty obvious where this is headed.

Trans people will be allowed to use the bathroom, locker they identify with. may take 20 years due to the nature of states rights and the slowness of the political process in america but it's going to happen.

Geneder identiy got added to the humans rights class in canada couple years ago, the world hasn't stopped turning.

yall can be on the wrong side of history if you want to.

SO then teachers are going to have to be on duty in bathrooms 100% of the time to make sure folks aren't banging in there.............

How so?

We are saying that we should just have all bathrooms genderless in HIGH SCHOOLS

I know what happens in REGULAR high school bathrooms.

So I shouldn't be concerned with the sexual activity that could potentially come up if ALL bathrooms were co-ed?

Boy, does my mind work in wild ways

So we react to how a child may be feeling. My thirteen year old may feel like not going school one because she feels its not beneficial. Do i cater her and allow her to stay home. No i tell her to go to school because as an adult i have experienced life and know the importance of education.

If my child identifies themslves as an different gender i will love her. But she will be an girl as long as she is in my pocket. Once she leaves she can be what ever the hell she wants. My daughter could have just been curious. If i support a curious feeling it could become serious. As a parent i feel entitled to my opinion and she will get it as long as i support her financially.

Yea that brings up an interesting point.

Can you be a parent and not-agree with / condone a certain behavior and STILL be supportive?

That will be a hell of a position to take.

Because for as many "tolerant" people are on NT, if your SON went down that route, you can't tell me you wouldn't feel a certain type of way. Sure, you will love him because that is your son but naturally the way you feel about him has to change.

But that isn't something most would admit in public so I expect to be called the Anti-Christ as usual

Dawg there are more gay people than transgendered people, by that logic, if you got gay kids in the school should they not be allowed to use the same locker for fear they might be having sex? there are a tiny amount of trans people I don't think you to worry about them having sex with the girls in the locker room.

not one's getting rid of gendered bathroom, the only difference is our understanding of what constitutes gender has changed.
