NT Fathers Unite: Tips and Cheat Codes for 1st-Time Dads

I have 2 children a 3yr old daughter and a 1yr old son. With my daughter it was as they say over reacting with her vs my son. You learn after the first one. Alot of good tips posted above.
One major thing i can say is help the wife out as much as you can. The wife is def going to need rest/breaks. Like posted above have a routine and a schedule so you both get some rest. I don't know how you guys have your household chores but step it up. And def spend time with the baby. From the get go Do the feeding, bathing, diaper changes etc. The day will come when you are going to be alone with your baby. At least you will be somewhat prepared

One thing i forgot that helped is do your normal stuff while the baby naps "noise" have a radio/tv playing while your baby sleeps. So they get use to the noise. Vs having everything quiet. And any little thing will wake them up.

My daughter is almost 2 months old. Definitely in for some of these tips.

I call them backattacks, I think some call them blowouts. When you kid poops and it travels up the diaper and
all over your kids butt and back, and gets on the onesies. Makes a mess and you dont want to bring
the poopy onesie to the babys face and head.

it off, not over their head.

Congrats. Welcome to theclub. I like this video by Louis C K. In short, be a dad, not mom's assistant. Follow your instincts. You got this bretheren.

Take pictures of all insurance cards with your phone.
Try your very best not to let them sleep in the same bed as you guys. It was a very hard habbit to break.
Sleep deprivation was the hardest part for me.

I thought I found the Holy Grail after finding out about this. This was more of a weebay.gif moment than finding out the Chinese food box is supposed to open to be a plate.

Co-sign on not buying dreft. If you want the baby smell, get the Dreft laundry beads, they are about $9 but always have a $2 off coupon. My wife and son both have sensitive skin and this comes through. I also use the Arm & Hammer sensitive skin detergent or the Purex Natural Elements.

I would've said sign up for AFLAC's Hosptial Indemnity but yall are already pregnant. They pretty much pay for your wife to give birth. My insurance covered the whole birth, tubal, and hospital stay w/ no out of pocket costs (Highmark PPO for the win) but we still got about $4k from AFLAC

I definitely agree with the not buying name brand/expensive baby clothes tip. When they're young, they don't know the difference. I'm including baby nike shoes in this category as well.

Johnson and Johnson baby bubble bath and lotion with shower gel with LAVENDER. That kid will get some good sleep. most importantly so will you

Don't be afraid to have conflicting ideas about parenting. Meeting in the middle is sometimes better than both just adopting the other's parenting style.

When you put the kids to bed, spend time with your spouse. Talk.

Never forget that you two existed before kids. Kids take up a lot of your time and effort. Don't let the kids be the only thing that defines you.

Always be a part of their bedtime rituals.

Read to your kids.

Nap when you get a chance.

Good luck and congrats. Being a parent is wonderful.

as i type this my 2 month old just fell asleep on my shoulder. its a great feeling to be able to soothe them without mommy's help. i also have a 9 and 7 year old. as previously stated, breastfeeding is an awesome thing for mom and baby. its a beautiful thing. best tip i have is see what kind of paternity leave policy you may have at work. i found out my company offered 8 weeks full pay. i just got back today and i had the best summer of my life. spending QT with your family is the best.

I know its wrong and also not practical to cop luxury or name brand items for a baby who will outgrow it in a couple weeks, but my baby stays and will stay looking cute in her little expensive, impractical, soon to be too small wardrobe. *kanye shrug*

This!

Your spouse is MORE important than your kids. Not saying your kids dont matter (or to neglect them), but a healthy happy
relationship with your spouse better for your kids than making them your focus. The happiness trickles down, doesn't work the other way.
Shes the one who you picked, who had to meet some of your preexisting standards and vice versa. The kids just show up after the fact.

Shop at Ross, Marshall's, and outlet stores primarily and name brand stuff isn't any more expensive than the cheapest Wal Mart off brand Faded Glory ****. Copped my forthcoming baby girl tons of Ralph Lauren dresses for $5 a few weekends ago. Children's Place outlet had the best prices though and then kept stacking coupons, gave me a giftcard, and 30 more % off for my contractor military id. These Chinse made Korean style dresses off ebay go for $4 shipped or under and are so cute. Name brand shoes are kind of expensive though, don't want to pay $20 for baby shoes :x

Me and the wife had our first kids back in march, identical twin girls. First few weeks were hard as hell.

i've got an 8-month old here...our first

only thing i'd say right off the bat - if you or your child cannot sleep through the night...throw on some white noise. seriously. worked (and still works) wonders for us.

Bookmarking this thread until December when my baby girl arrives, even though me and wifey are more than ready!

Amber teething necklaces
View media item 1699012Teething is a ************. Makes the baby cranky, they get fevers and itchy gums as their bodies prep for cutting teeth. It is literally hell. I went through this twice wit my first two kids. By the third, we got this teething necklace from some upscale children's boutique in Greenwich. My wife convinced me to get it, for $18 (which was tough cus Im cheap) she said her friends swear by it. Put it on dude after a at 4mnths ( he had started drooling alot and just started being a lil fussy so he was in the very early staged of teething). Dude is 18mnths, still has the same necklace on, 8 teeth, and never had any teething issues at all. Totally skipped over those annoying episodes his siblings went through. I didnt think it was gonna work cus its a damn necklace and I was skeptical. Its some sort of holystic treatment so science doesn't back it. But that joint works fam. Just had another boy on the 8/19 and I already copped one for him I put it on him maybe in another month. No one manufacturer makes em so theres no official one, but there are cheap ones that are bs and dont work I hear. theartofcure.net is a place where you can order a quality one. Flourish.

Cop one of these joints and your kid will sleep better. Pricey, but worth it. Ours has lasted 4+ years with daily usage.
