Oh make no mistake about it, the Texans are and have been one of the worst teams in the league this year. Outsiders don't realize it cause they're thrilled with Fantasy production & fail to weigh the fact the two wins were against Jax & TB.
Texans roster construction is horrible because A. They can't hit on any draft picks after the first round & B. They give contracts to people who don't really deserve them and suffer from a depth perspective accordingly.

Don't mind the Watt contract at all, but the Foster, Cushing, JJoe, and even Graham contracts look really bad.
The whole team is a dumpster, but I'm floored at how useless our TEs are. Just today, they had 6 targets combined, no catches, and one of their bobbled catches led to a INT return. CJ was supposedly "on the level of Gronk". Other than being big, tall, and white, he doesn't have any actual similarities to Gronk. I mentioned this before, but even though he didn't get extensive looks at them, I felt like the two dudes that ended up on IR (Mike McFarland & Anthony Durham) could've easily done better than them.

Another overlooked aspect is moves that were made for questionable reasons that just don't pan out.
- I don't have to go into detail about Teddy B/Su'Afilo/Carr and that whole deal cause we all know how that was bungled.
- Gladly would've taken that reduction to 60 catches for AJ compared to wasting targets at TE & on Mumphery/Worthy (i know it wss actually salary cap not role)
- Wasting draft picks on Bullock & Savage
- Lowballing Myers into retirement & essentially going with Aboushay as a replacement.

I know it wouldn't happen this year but I can see Ryan Matthews being a good fit for the offense. Then again, Chip is "The Mad Scientist" so make the call man...

The entire football side of the front office needs to be gutted, from Rick Smith to the lowest level scouts.
This worst part is, this feels just like the Astros, it is going to take at least a few years to even be a contender again
I've been loyal as hell to this organization. I've only missed a handful of home games ever, and honestly don't think i'll go to another game this year.

One thing makes me want to say this team doesn't have talent, and it just seems like the defensive schemes just don't seem to fit guys. Even Watt seems underutilized. Along with that, it seems like no matter what the defensive play is, it seems like the players don't know what's going one. There;s been so many times where it looks like players have never seen any of the formations the offenses are lined up in, which you will see guys looking around and signaling, LBs and DBs trying to get to the other said right before the ball is snapped, and next thing you know a huge play is given up.
Yet even with saying all of that, another part of me says another reset button needs to happen, and whole roster cleansing. Even cheerleaders, parking lot attendants, and popcorn & peanut salesmen need to go.

Last week on 610, Seth Payne was talking about RAC's not utilizing the players we have to the best of their abilities, but just plugging them into his system.
regardless if that is true or not, we just aren't physical, can't tackle, and take horrible angles

Texans GM Rick Smith vetoes Bill O'Brien's decision to cut QB Ryan Mallett
The question never made sense.
Why was Ryan Mallett still wearing a Texans uniform Sunday, when the troubled quarterback had clearly broken multiple team rules and laughed in the face of coach Bill O'Brien's strict character guidelines?
Because the answer still doesn't make sense two days later.
O'Brien wanted - and tried - to cut Mallett before the Texans ever took the field during a 44-26 blowout defeat to the Dolphins, said sources with direct knowledge of the situation who weren't authorized to speak publicly. But the second-year leader – partly hired by owner Bob McNair for his fierce personality and high standards of personal accountability – was overruled by longtime general manager Rick Smith.
O'Brien lost the personnel battle before his team was again humiliated, via a 41-0 halftime deficit to Miami. Smith won the front-office decision that preceded the emasculating embarrassment at Sun Life Stadium. And the increasingly divided Texans already have a power conflict at the top tier of the organization, less than two years after O'Brien was supposed to lift the franchise up from the darkness of 2-14 in 2013.
"We're talking about all those options," O'Brien said Monday at NRG Stadium, when asked what the Texans plan to do with Mallett, who missed a chartered flight and then blamed Houston's nonexistent Saturday traffic for not flying with his team to the game.
The only option that mattered was privately discussed the same day that O'Brien realized a quarterback he surprisingly named the starter in Week 2 had publicly let the Texans down again.
If O'Brien – who made his team-first name by reuniting a shattered Penn State football program -- had his way, Mallett would've never joined the team in Miami. But Smith continues to wield a powerful hand over the organization 10 years after he became McNair's second GM, despite the fact that the Texans have only won two wild-card playoff games during his tenure and are just 13-26 in the last three seasons.
Smith pushed to keep Mallett because the GM believed the team needed a capable backup for Brian Hoyer against the Dolphins. The Texans, then 2-4, were entering a critical swing game that could either push them within sight of .500 entering a bye week or nearly end their season before the midway point of a year that was supposed to build on O'Brien's 9-7 rookie run.
With Mallett still in uniform and standing on the sideline in defiance of O'Brien's desire, the Texans barely had a pulse. They were blasted into a 21-0 hole with 3 minutes, 3 seconds left in the first quarter. They gave up 35 points to Miami before Hoyer threw for the Texans' initial first down. They were never alive in a contest that was supposed to define the first half of their season and showed no heart for a coach whose fiery, all-for-one style directly inspired their 2014 resurgence.
It was the worst half of lifeless football I've ever seen with my own eyes. It also made no sense, considering what was at stake and the fact that O'Brien's squad had been shredded by Atlanta – 42-0 Falcons in the third quarter – just three games prior.
Did keeping Mallett in Miami create the biggest disaster of O'Brien's NFL head-coaching career? That's a stretch.
Did allowing lazy No. 15 to remain in uniform undercut everything that O'Brien had publicly stood for since Jan. 3, 2014, when he was hired to be the hard answer to the perceived softness that set up Gary Kubiak's sudden demise? Without question.
Which leads to even bigger, more damning ones for a highly disappointing team that hasn't been right since "Hard Knocks" started rolling film -- a decision driven by McNair and also in opposition of O'Brien's desire for control.
What are J.J. Watt, DeAndre Hopkins and every other truly hardworking Texan supposed to think when Mallett gets another free pass, even for a few days?
Who's really directing the Texans: A GM that McNair has stood by for a decade or a coach who's supposed to have final say over the team's 53-man roster?
And how can McNair – increasingly hands off and distant 14 years into his ownership – tolerate a growing power divide while his franchise is no closer to being a Super Bowl contender than it was during the peak of Kubiak's run?
That mirage endured for all of one win-less offseason, by the way.

Mallett was released by the team Tuesday, NFL Media Insider Ian Rapoport reported, according to a source informed of the Texans' plans. John McClain of the Houston Chronicle first reported the news.
That wraps up a tumultuous few days in Houston that included Mallett missing his team's charter flight for the game. Mallett subsequently blamed some Houston traffic -- which the Chronicle says was non-existent -- for his absence. Mallett also was late for a practice during training camp when he said his alarm clock broke.
The Mallett era will not be looked back upon fondly. The Texans acquired the former New England Patriot for practically nothing in a trade last season. He started two games for the team in 2014 before tearing his pectoral muscle. Mallett was beat out by Brian Hoyer for the starting job this preseason, but took over for Hoyer late in the team's ugly Week 1 loss to Kansas City.
Mallett improbably held on to the starting job for four games, and was one of the worst starters in the league. His passes only seemed to have one speed. Missing the team flight Saturday was the last straw for his stay with the team.

The roster for the most part is constructed the way he wanted
The QB situation is what he wanted
The FA pickups are guys he wanted
The past 2 drafts are of guys he mostly wanted
Both OC & DC are the guys he wanted
The hell yall mean Bill OBrien isn't a problem he's a major part of the problem.

McNair, Smith, and O'Brien are all a problem. O'Brien is a problem cause he's clearly trying a faux Patriot style that isn't working, while bringing in a bunch of his Penn State homies pedalling the same ****. Smith is a problem cause he's either a puppet/middle man with no actual power, or very well does have power but doesn't know how to use it effectively. McNair himself is a problem in that he's developed a culture that's satisfied with selling tickets and giving false hope to the fans, instead of putting a real product on the field to represent the city.

Man peep said everything I wanted to. I don't care who has to get fired or what changes need to be made but something needs to happen and McNair needs to stop moving in quicksand when it comes to making decisions. They move so damn slow, you don't want an ultra reactionary owner but damn man the entire franchise makes changes at a snail's pace.

Houston (CBS HOUSTON) – The Houston Texans have officially ended the season of Arian Foster by placing him on injured reserve Tuesday.
Foster who tore his Achilles in Sunday’s 44-26 loss to the Miami Dolphins was confirmed lost for the season Monday by head coach Bill O’Brien. Putting him on the IR is the official move the Texans needed to do to open up a roster spot.
The Texans have filled that roster spot by signing Safety Kurtis Drummond from the practice squad.
The Texans also officially announced the release of quarterback Ryan Mallett.
The Texans have officially brought back quarterback T.J. Yates per the Houston Chronicle's Aaron Wilson.
The contract is one year deal according to Wilson. Yates led the Texans to a playoff victory in 2011 but was traded to Falcons in 2014 for Akeem Dent. He was released by the Falcons in September.

Yates has 3 touchdowns and 7 interceptions in 14 games played.
