Houston Texans sign linebacker Brian Peters off Vikings practice squad

The Houston Texans on Wednesday signed linebacker Brian Peters off the Vikings’ practice squad.

Peters, who played at Northwestern and for two years in the Canadian Football League, was waived by the Vikings on Sept. 5. However, he was signed to the practice squad the next day, where he remained for the first three weeks of the season.

It was a bit of a surprise Peters didn’t make Minnesota’s 53-man roster to start the season. He was strong in exhibition play, including getting a team-high two interceptions.

“That’s my first priority on this team is to showcase my ability on special teams and help us be successful on special teams,” Peters told the Houston Chronicle. “On defense, I’ll play wherever they put me. I’m just going to find the ball, that’s my goal. I fit into all the schemes. It’s very similar to what I’ve ran in Minnesota.”

HOUSTON -- The Houston Texans made a change at place-kicker in part because of former kicker Randy Bullock's performance on extra points -- he was the only kicker in the NFL to have missed more than one extra point this season.

Overall there have been significantly more missed extra points this year than in the past. According to ESPN Stats & Information, the 14 extra points missed so far this season are already six more than were missed all of last season. It's also the most missed extra points since 2009, when there were 20 missed extra points all season. Again, this is only Week 4.

It's not exactly a kicker's dream. Or is it?

"I love it," said Nick Novak, the Texans' new kicker, who replaced Bullock. “It’s more opportunity for us to get out there. It’s pretty much a field goal. That’s the mindset I have of it. I approach every kick as if it’s the same. For me it’s a field goal, and it doesn’t matter if it’s a 20-yard field goal or 33. It’s the same thing.”

The extra point used to be basically automatic for kickers, and Novak still keeps the mentality that his extra point should be automatic. And that's probably exactly how the Texans would like him to view it.

As both the Houston Texans and the Atlanta Falcons take the field, here’s a few injuries that you need to know about:

For the Texans, here are the players that are listed on the injury report:

S Lonnie Ballentine, Knee

ILB Akeem Dent, Hamstring

RB Jonathan Grimes, Knee

T Duane Brown, Hand

RB Arian Foster, Groin

G Brandon Brooks, Ankle

OLB Jadeveon Clowney, Shoulder

CB Johnathan Joseph, Hip

QB Ryan Mallett, Chest

T Derek Newton, Ankle

S Eddie Pleasant, Thigh

G Xavier Su’a-Filo, Calf

Ballentine, Dent and Grimes have been ruled OUT. Brown and Foster are listed as questionable. Brooks, Clowney, Joseph, Mallett, Newton, Pleasant and Su’a-Filo are probable and good to go.

Looks like Foster is ready to go.....

Hoping this game doesn't get out of hand. It'll be tough as hell to win here, but it's possible. Defense will have to play lights out and pressure Ryan so he can not get the ball to Julio, cause he's gonna be dangerous for our secondary if that doesn't happen. the offense can't struggle and have our defense stay on the field, cause it will get ugly fast otherwise.

i'm getting real sick of this franchise being pathetic

An abysmal performance from basically everybody involved. Offense, defense, special teams, coaching, probably even the cheerleaders and waterboys if they were there. Losses like this question even caring or supporting this team. The only good that came out of the game was Hopkins getting some stats near the end. Game unfolded just like I didn't want to. Offense stalled, leaving the defense on the field for too long, then they start giving up huge plays. And the mental mistakes :smh: :smh: the defense making plays to get off the field, and then boom, penalties.

And to top it off with that trash *** play near the end. You THROW THAT **** TO THE ENDZONE. not they ****** up and got Cecil Shorts hurt. dudes arm is in a sling right now. Piss poor *** effort and playcalling.

I'm always going to root for the Texans, but i'm at an all-time low about the level of F's I give about this team

Don't insult my intelligence by trying to make me believe this team has a shot to do anything

That's pretty much my feelings . I'll always root for them, but even at 1-3, I'm having a tough time believing there's a chance at a winning streak, which makes it a chore to even update the thread everyday

Houston Texans’ Failures Are A Result Of Delusional Ownership

This NFL business is driven by entertainment. It matters how exciting teams are and if they are a favorite to win every week.

That, dear friends, is not the case in any way, shape or form in Houston. This Houston Texans team does the same thing, the same way every week, and it has become both a joke and sad at the same time.

No matter what some mega-rich owner says, teams need great playmakers. Bob McNair is grossly mistaken in his assessment of team needs. He thinks that the Texans running backs are fine, and that super quarterbacks aren’t necessary.

The Texans’ weekly result is a reflection of these insane beliefs. They are the most boring team in the history of the sport. Watching the game is about as enjoyable as a trip to the dentist: you are uneasy before it starts, uncomfortable during the action and then in excruciating pain after it’s over.

Head Coach Bill O’Brien signed Brian Hoyer, made him a starter and then relieved him of starter duties before the first game ended. Ryan Mallett and his amazingly strong but horrendously inaccurate arm are throwing this season low and away, like many of his pass attempts. Oh, and their fourth-round future solution, Tom Savage, is unavailable due to a season-ending injury sustained in preseason, rounding out the Texans’ pitiful quarterback situation.

Slow starts are not always a reflection of the players, but it’s the responsibility of the coach to have his guys prepared and ready to win, quarter by quarter. A total lack of preparation is so evident when the team continuously piles up foolish penalties and is caught out of position routinely. While it’s unrealistic for fans to believe their team will win every week, it’s an atrocity to jog an unprepared, poorly structured and underwhelming team onto the field every week.

In your spare time, look over the last four drafts and see if you can fill up one hand with explosive game-changing players. The talent and evaluation staff for Houston is a punchline at an amateur comedy club.

The Texans’ loss today was inevitable, but an embarrassing thrashing should be an eye-opener to this organization and their toddler-like roster building skills. The Texans look like they’ll be picking top 10 in the 2016 draft, maybe even top 5 if things don’t improve instantly.

So get prepared for University of California QB Jared Goff; oh wait, the Texans don’t make those types of picks.

Instead, get ready for Ohio State defensive end Joey Bosa, because the best available defensive player is what wins games in this league (not really).

It was hilarious listening to both 790 and 610 this morning

both stations basically said the Texans don't do anything well

"can't tackle, can't block, can't run the ball, can't pass"

I'm really curious if BOB is delusion in thinking Mallett and/or Hoyer can play or if he knows they suck and is just blowing smoke.

basically in purgatory like the rockets were between yao/tmac to now. except i have no faith in management to fix it.

before we all bash rick smith, because we know he's been sub par in late rounds, gotta give him a little credit for hitting some guys. KJ looks legit for when JJoe leaves. our linebacking core as a whole lacks speed imo, and our offense is very meh. we don't have matchup nightmare type guys except nuk.

with all that said if we win on thursday we're in 1st in our division

The worst part is, it is going to take at least a few years to be a legit contender again, assuming we stop blowing draft picks and can bring in guys that can play

He's also drafted not so well in the 2-3rd rounds. His saving grace is some UFA and hitting on some 1st round picks. Great :rolleyes Overall this team lacks speed. Safeties are meh, MLB's can't stay with TE's and RB's, there's nobody at TE who's worth a damn, O-line is meh, on and on and on

You know what scares me, if they somehow win this crappy division and McNair thinks everyone is doing a fine job. I've never seen an owner be so patient to his detriment :smh:

I"M SICK OF THIS SQUAD. Franchise has been trash most of it's existence and unless there's a complete change in who ever is making the decisions I'm not confident in things changing.
