Fundamental, you are absolutely right and with that being said i had to edit my comment. I watched the videos and L is only talking about how he feels along with his opinions. He is not talking reckless or anything, just simply saying how he was with Def Jam when it all started and he feels that the promotion is definitely lacking, thats all.

Also, he said that he had the president job 10 years ago if he wanted it but he turned it down because he is content with being an artist and he did not want to take on that president responsibility.

L also was saying how he loves Jay as an artist, he just does not feel that he is really great at being president. LL made sense, he said that Jay may be president to attract more artists to the label. L also said that when you are president he has the right to bring out albums however def jam has so many talented artists and it seems like they are not getting marketed properly at all.

CLICK ON THE LINK AND CHECK OUT THE VIDEOS, It is a very good LL interview!

Also, i think that new LL track is called "new yorks hustlers" if i am not mistaken. However, that track is one of the nicest story tracks that i have heard all year in 07, possibly the best one yet.

L also said that Exit 13 the album is basically going back to his routes, back to where he has come from. He said it himself that all of his albums after GOAT were R&B albums but with Exit 13 he is bringing it back to the Basics...

I am looking forward to this album, LL did say Glorified President but alot of us assume that something is more than what it is by the subject line as well as the responses that you get so much thanks to Niketalk User: Fundamentals for the post after mine.

When is LL COOL J - EXIT 13 supposed to release??

How did this thread suddenly became Jay-Z is a beast, LL is trash? LL basically said he respects Jay-Z as an artist but he stinks when promoting artists within Def Jam. With the recent downfall of the many artists in Def Jam, how is this not true with what LL is saying?
/// IMPOSSIBLE IS NOTHING///

i damn sure dont care L just made His time is up dudes realyl aint checking for him like that he betta stick to movies

L made alot of valid points on what is going on with def jam right now. there's no doubt that Jay-z & def jam deliberately made drastic changes to the roster so they can accommodate certain individual artists.
opinions KILLED many.

What benfrank says is true. All these artists can get as mad as they want about how labels arent promoting. A label drops a first single with a budget to get it to a certain point and it expands from there based on taking records up the charts. A label isnt gonna just keep pumping money into a deadhorse. Most records you know what you have quickly. A few like robin thicke, timbo "way i am" sit around for a while and then blow, but we usually know its time to cut off the piggy bank at some point. A ringtone rapper like shop boyz makes way more sense for a label than say a ghostface. By the time the album drops they have usually gotten close to even just off ringtones. So when they sell 25K forst week no one really blinks. If they sell 100K like soulja boy its a party.

As fas as jay. Greatest rapper ever, but all he is is a face for the label to sign other rappers and get press. LA Reid and Steve Bartels call the shots...point blank. Steve Bartels a 50 year old white guy has more to do with the day day of Def jam then anyone else. Jay is for show and because he has a good ear. As far as business sense, just because jay was a part of Roc doesnt mean he was doing anything on a day to day basis. Does he deserve credit for all the success? absolutely. Did he have as much of an impact from a business standpoint as Dame and Biggs? no way.

I respect Jay-Z but he has too much going right now to be the president for Def Jam. He's still making music and is constantly with the suits to talk about the Nets and the new arena in Brooklyn. I will say that many artists nowadays are feeling the wrath of piracy. It happens that Jay is currently president so hes getting the blunt of the blame.
/// IMPOSSIBLE IS NOTHING///

Also, when you take on jobs like this as far as being the president you will get blamed for certain things and i am pretty sure that he knows that it comes with the territory. L and Jay both know that. You can only do your best!

Its not even a Jay Z vs LL issue, thats what Jay's beloved fans can't realize, I mean Jay Z's name is mentioned and dudes have their chests out ready to take a bullet for him, its the issue with Sean Carter, the President of Def Jam, what Jay spits on records has nothing to with the lack of promotion that Def Jam artists are getting . . . I mean Jay has a new interview where he's calling Tru Life and Uncle Murder "superstars", so tell me how dudes known worldwide are getting awful promotion, but Mr Carter feels he can market Tru Life to the world?? Market Uncle Murda to the world?? Young Leek?? That @#%$ doesn't even make sense, dudes are soo in love with Jay Z they won't even entertain the thought of him doing something wrong, its sickening, he has honestly taken a God like role in a lot of yalls lives . . . OK he's your favorite rapper, big deal, but is he your favorite label Pres.?? Because thats what this issue is concerning . . .

Back in Def Jam's golden era most fans didn't know who the president of DJ was [Kevin Liles] but everybody and their moms knows who the president is at the current moment. Jay is basically an artist that has an executive position, he does a few signings here and there but he doesn't oversee the day to day activities like most of ya'll think.

What?? People deffinetly knew who Kev Liles was, you act as if the President position is some secretive or somethin, not sure about the rest of yall but I've been to music summits where Kev Liles was speaking, basically everyone thats somebody was there along with many up and coming artists. As far as yall trying to downplay Jay's role, why now?? But when yall were talkin about the success stories it was a different story, its like pick one side and stick with it, cause it looks stupid when you flip flop every other thread, I mean LL is signed to the label, he has been there since jump, there is no way anyone in here has more info on whats goin on then that man himself, and he's stated his displeasure, same with Meth, and there will be many more to come with their own stories . . . I mean dudes are just in love with the idea of Jay Z, and when yall feel he's being attacked you wanna pop up on some Superman .

So LL is just making all of this up . . . A 22 year vet is just making all this @#%$ up?? In the 22 years he's been in the game, what negative thing can you say about LL's character when it comes to a situation like this?? Its just the fact that its Jay Z who is obviously alot of you guy's idol and @#%$, nothing really wrong with that, but what real reason would LL have to criticize a label he helped build?? Your love for Jay Z is clouding your better judgement . . . As usual. Atleast you're not alone tho

I bet "LA Reid and Steve Bartels" had Dame Dash kicked out of the IDJ building also . . . But he's prolly a liar also . . . ANYone that has something to say about Jay Z is liar
