Some folk have said it only works once, some have said you have to change the name then close the app before evolving.

I hatched two 10ks both trash. I was so hyped for them thinking it was snorlax time or at least electabuzz but no. Low powered eevees both times. It makes me think that it matters more when you get the egg because I got both of them before level 10. They hatched when I was level 15.
