AKIRA X NOLAN

Like every film though?

I think some folks just are contrarian on purpose.
nah bro. his movies are visually pleasing. it's just that that alone does not make a good movie. He leaves a lot of plot holes and makes many last minute resolutions. Even the choreography of the action scenes has holes.

I disagree. Nolan is a great filmmaker. His movies do have holes but they are very tiny in comparison to other blockbusters.

What movies do you consider flawless or films that come close to a masterpiece and that are blockbusters?

Never like any of the Star Wars movies. My mom was into them, I just couldnt dig it.

Was dragged to the movies to see Ep 2(iirc). Fell asleep on it, woke up just in time to see Yoda fight.

Meh....mildly impressed.

blockbuster films tend to ride off of star power. that would be a tough decision.

Independent films tend to be better with out all that meddling from big studios.

Nolan may be very good, but the final product does not show that.

Get ready for plot holes galore. Dark colored scenes with dialogue for sophomore english majors

Look at this guy here.
Nolan films do have their flaws.

Expect even more criticism given if he's taking over a beloved and revered story.

That's only in response to the wave of Nolan slurping we've got since his last great movie, TDK.

So the idea of him taking over something like this is gonna bring ppl prejudging based off of what they got in past movies.

Heres my dilemma about potentially having a Japanese cast.

If they actually pulled it off and produced a Japanese cast, would you want it in Japanese, but with subtitles? I would.
But the way I see it, if they had Japanese actors speaking in english that would be just as stupid as having a whitewashed cast.
In which case, Id rather they just find suitable non-asian actors to fill the roles

I guess what Im saying is, go all the way, or not at all
I absolutely hate when a World War II movie has the Nazis played by Brits and speaking with British "german" accents

I don't see an american production, led by Nolan, making a true Japanese version of the movie, so rather than make some stupid phony "asian" cast Id prefer they just select the best possible whitewashed actors and go for a more multiracial NeoTokyo

Aint no way in the hell any Hollywood movie studio gonna let anyone shoot a movie in another language.

Of course. But given that reality, I don't have any interest in seeing a Japanese/Asian cast speaking english.
That defeats the point of having an asian cast.
So I'd rather see Kaneda's gang be part of a multiethnic future along the lines of Blade Runner, with a lot of races and languages to "justify" having a cast thats not entirely Japanese

How does it defeat the purpose? Having stuff localized is how movies just are. Our movies get dubbed into other languages and vice versa

You can have them speak English and still be true to the source material

I'd be all for subtitles but given we're talking Hollywood, I'd settle for the compromise of an all Japanese cast with the movie in English.

It'd probably cost more money to film both at the same time unless the cast could do everything n one take.

You just want the actors to "look" asian, but not actually speak in Japanese?
Localize it all the way, or not at all. Middle of the road is bunz

To each his own, but for me, I don't see it as any more authentic to the OG material if they look Japanese, but speak in english.
Thats why I gave my example of the Nazis speaking with a british accent. I can't stand that, but I realize it doesn't bother everyone

Hollywood is obviously not gonna make a Japanese AKIRA,
but it doesn't make me feel any better to potentially have random asian looking actors speaking english, unless the movie explains in some believable way why the people of NeoTokyo don't speak Japanese

id honestly just be ok with an akira cartoon remake. live action would most likely miss the mark on alot of levels, but I would definitely like see akira remade one way or another. nothing wrong with the OG version though

What would be the American version of the name Akira? Arthur? Would be odd to have white actors and keep the Japanese names of the characters.
