Yet another example, caught on video, of police overreach and arguable brutality has been making the rounds on social media, this time out of Stockton, California. The two-and-a-half-minute video shows a 16-year-old black teen barely struggling as a police officer shoves him and ultimately hits him in the face with a baton. The officer is yelling "stop resisting," and meanwhile a bystander is repeatedly yelling, "That's a child!" Also, there are some expletives. (Audio NSFW)

The video, shot on Tuesday morning, has now made national news, via USA Today and elsewhere.

What makes the video particularly absurd and enraging is that both the bystander and the YouTube poster say the kid was stopped, and ultimately arrested, for jaywalking. And it gets more absurd when eight more cops show up on the scene to take down this unarmed and clearly harmless teenager, whom they lead away in tears.

As of Thursday, the teen's family filed a formal complaint with the department.

NBC Los Angeles reports that shortly before the video began, the officer told the teen to walk on the sidewalk and not in bus-only lane, and somehow the incident escalated. According to the YouTube poster, the teen "was 2 feet away from the sidewalk when the cop stopped him" and the teen was apparently dismissive at first. "The cop was telling him to take a sit but the teen kept walking to his bus but the cop kept grabbing his arm & the kid took off the cops hand off his arm so the cop took out his baton, that's when all this happened."

According to Stockton Police spokesman Officer Joseph Silva, the teen had talked back to the officer and refused to comply with the request to move to the sidewalk, and had cursed at the officer, which led to the escalation. An initial investigation into the incident by the department suggests that the officer acted correctly when the teen went to grab at his baton.

Says Silva, "If everyone would just learn to comply with the lawful orders from police officers and not try to hold or grab any of our weapons, force would never have to be use."

Of course, the video only tells a story of a large adult male cop using what appears to be unnecessary force to arrest a teenager for a frivolous offense. As The Guardian reports, the teen was briefly held and released to his mother pending charges in juvenile court for trespassing and resisting arrest.

The YouTube video has now been viewed over 400,000 times and counting, and the social media response can be summed up thusly.

Who wrote this article? Why are they stating shorty was grabbing for the baton when he simply wanted the officer's hands off him?

******* cops like them need to get their *** beat out on street. Better yet, have their children violated the way they do ours. What kind of distress call did he make to have all those cops show up like that :smh:. Like homie committed a quadruple homicide, and was a holding a white girl hostage.

What an idiot. Kid deserved to get his *** beat, don't care what you guys say. Police officers should not be disrespected like that. It's always the SAME thing before an incident like this. People need to use common sense, ignoring an officer and acting stupid will obviously have consequences :smh:

Being disrespectful to an officer is punishable by assault in America? Did not know that brah

Write the kid a ticket, ruin his day, and move on.

A verbal comment shouldn't allow the cop to physically attack him.

I mean the kid was probably on some type of drug. That's why it was necessary for 4 cops to take him down with such force

He probably had some super human strength from the drugs

@ the "if they don't grab our weapons there would never be a reason for force". It's a natural reaction to grab the object that someone is beating you with to stop the beating.

at "talking back" being punishable by a beat down
Police: Do this

Civilian: Nah

Police beats down civilian. There is no middle ground with some of these cops.

Kid didn't deserve a beat down, but he is an idiot.

It seems like some officers are just THIRSTY to get violent. It's almost like you could see the adrenaline pumping through their blood.

How can he write a ticket and do anything if the kid is ignoring him? Are you guys that dense? If you guys were cops and someone is just doing the wrong thing, ignoring your commands, swearing at you, do you just say "what the hell, I'll just let him be" and go away? The cop obviously had to get the kid to stop, he did. The kid resisted with the cop and forced him to take greater action.

Would love to hear how a cop should get someone to stop that is ignoring them.

Sorry to hear that it would take you excessive force to take control of an 18 year old kid. Hit the gym, pa.

ITS J WALKING DOG! Its not that serious I promise you. No matter what you say it doesn't take all this to handle a j walking situation.

How can you not use force to put someone in handcuffs that is resisting  would LOVE to see how you guys would arrest someone that isn't complying :nerd:
It has nothing to do with how strong you are, or how weak the other person is. Resisting is what changes things...

J walking? The kid was walking on the wrong side...officer told him about it, kid sweared and ignored him . Reading is fundamental. Not as simple as just J walking

I can't even figure out what the cop is doing with his baton in the first place. Is he trying to choke him out with him, curl him up? He has him pinned in the fetal position and the kid grabs the baton then he hits it. Ultimately, it doesn't matter. He'll get placed on paid vacation, have a Kickstarter in his name make 6 figures, then be vindicated by his department and be back on the force in 6 weeks

Wrong side? It says he was in the bus line he wasn't walking into on coming traffic. I've seen people numerous times j walk in front of cops and them not say a thing because honestly no one cares. The few times I have seen a cop say something and the person just go on about their day the cop still didn't care. This is the definition of OD.
Don't feed the troll.
You're right.

He's saying "Stop resisting" while trying to force his baton on the kid, the kid is using his legs to shield the baton from going any further

translation: Let me put this baton in your throat and choke u out real quick.
