Trying to make it as a sports writer doesn't provide enough security at the moment and it's something I could still pursue on my down time so I want to do something that offers a consistent pay check. Problem is, I just don't know what to do. I have an English degree which is worthless so yeah, throw me some ideas.

Aren't you the one that always suggests day trading/option trading for everyone else

I suggest learning how to do so yes, but I'm looking for something with security and benefits. That can be done anywhere at any time.

get hired by espn

Actuary. If you can pass the first 2 or 3 exams sure you'd have no problem finding a job.

Medical writing would be a more realistic field to look into.

I tapped out just studying for the first one

I know people that stuck with it. All flourishing right now
my undergrad was math with a focus in actuarial science and applied stat. Out of like 7 or 8 people in my class 2 are actuaries and yeah they flourishing. The rest of us went into pharmaceutical r&d and aren't doing so bad either. I don't plan on ever being a biostatistician so my earnings ceiling isn't quite as high as an actuary. But I love my work/life balance, so I'm happy with my decision. When u start looking at exams 5+ (hell even 3+), it's like oh. My. God.

I tapped out because when I was in college, a recruiter from Geico talked to me and said if I could pass the first exam, I would get an internship and pretty much be a lock for a job after graduation; making like 50K plus, entry level, which was way better than most regular ole analyst. This is all she told me

So I start studying, and a couple weeks in go up to there headquarters to watch a presentation about their Actuary program

Mannn when they started talking about the exams, I hit the recruiter wit one of these.
