Do smokers deserve (multiple) smoke breaks at work?

Like drinking or smoking weed it should be done at home. Ill be happy when it gets banned altogether outside.

No beef with smoke breaks as long as they don't have anything to say when I'm taking my misc breaks

The irony is that, in my experiences, the smoke breakers are the ones that have something to say about what others are doing.

Prolly cuz they got more free time to *****.

When they go on smoke breaks I go on smoke breaks  and I don't smoke

I don't really care because that's not in my job description to care what other people do on their breaks.

It's not about what they do on their regulated breaks, it's about them taking more breaks to smoke and not pulling their weight

IMO people who don't pull their weight at work is not because of smoke breaks but because they're dumbasses or lazy. If you cant take 2 10 minute breaks and keep up with you work load, kill yo self. Besides, if you doing your job you wont be clocking what I'm doing. Is it the break or people smoking on a Break that has the pitchforks out on the witch hunt?

As someone who doesn't smoke, it's hard for me to understand how they can't sustain themselves for the period while they're at work. I work at a place where there is 0 smoking allowed and yet some of the employees sneak out, risking getting fired in order to smoke. They just have to smoke every hour or so. There is nothing in my life that I can compare it to: I can go without food, water, any substance whatsoever for at least 5 hours without it bothering me one bit. Except the air that I breathe of course. How these people can't do the same for cigarettes and are even willing to risk losing their jobs is beyond me. It's a disease.

As much as I get up from my desk, I wish I would complain about other people. Even when I was in management, I didn't care how many times my team took a break, as long as their work was done, I wasn't tripping. Now, if they weren't completing their work, it would've been an issue. I would've shut that down. But, I've learned that people work harder for you when you're not all over their backs over petty ****. My team begged me to stay because they knew whoever took over wasn't going to be as lenient.

Let them take their breaks for whatever their reason. Some women pump their breasts for baby milk at lunch. Some take long massive dumps. Some smoke. Some go for a coffee break. All that should matter is that they are efficient at their jobs.

I have more of a problem of people smoking or chewing at work because of the nicotine and chemical alteration. No comment on caffeine because thats how 90% of work actually does get done, BUT:

Does that make it ok for alcoholics to drink? Potheads to roll up?

Whats the real difference if they're in a state to work effectively after? I know if i smoked or chewed I'd feel ****** up  but if i rolled up it'd be a different story. I know cigs/chew are considered more appropriate since not as taboo, but all still altering substances.

As an employee...I mind my business. Not my problem, not my money being affected.

As an owner/management I'd only say anything if it was affecting performance. Despite the fact smoking was their choice, I'm not about to have employees gittery and unfocused because they're waiting for their next 15 to have a smoke.

I only make it an issue if my employees do. I have never put my foot down, until a smoker has started abusing it.

Lead Engineer told me at my job that the last guy who took smoke breaks got told to stay on it.

I have "unlimited" breaks at my job, people taking 5 smoke breaks. I'll just walk around. :pimp:
