Chicago Bulls Season Thread 35-33 -- vs kings 3.21/3.23 vs knicks/3.24 knicks

We need a better 2nd unit floor general in order to really flourish. When Rose and Butler are out, it's almost like we run pick up hoops w/ Brooks and Moore int he backcourt. That's always been a problem w/ us though, that and injuries.

Early don't want to make too big a deal out of anything but I'm not feeling our defense at all. Cleveland played bad that wasn't us, and the nets are not a good team, game got too close at one point. The best offense is still going to have moments when it stops, that's when you need to be able to defend.

Can't believe I'm saying this but I agree with the TNT broadcasters feels like we traded in one identity for another when in reality it should be a happy medium of offense and defense. My biggest fear is we become the mike D Suns 2.0 not much concern for defense.

When you look at it from that perspective, it's not very encouraging. But let's say, if we had Thib, we probably lose to the Cavs and played down to Bk in a neck to neck game. But you gotta uderstand, these are finally having fun playing with each other and learning how to play and truly share the ball. The 2nd unit point guard needs to be addressed tho, need a play maker. Other than thay, defense will come. They held Brooklyn to 16 points in the 3rd. Not a bad sign.

Cavs played a bad game, Bulls also played a bad game from Rose, Butler and Pau.
Give it some time and these guys will pick it up defensively. The habit are there, just gotta execute. With a mind that Thibs taught them to have for the defensive end, the Bulls OG roster still got that mentality along with experiencing some fun in basketball on the offense.

This. I wouldn't be too concerned. I would def take this style of play over Thib's and I believe the defensive foundation is still there. It's all about finding that medium on the floor which I'm sure they will as this is a high IQ team.

You could already see Hoiberg and Jim Boylen implementing that Spurs type minute restrictions and rotations. Thibs was too stubborn at times running 8 man rotations way too early in the season.

That's right.

Let's not forget Jim Boylan was hired to help on the defensive end. He came from the Spurs as an assistance Coach.

We have seen free flowing offense like the Warriors.

As stated, 10-11 man rotation and Butler/Rose just can't stop raving about the team's depth.

If we can get someone to lead that back court on the 2nd unit and stay healthy, we'll be straight. :smokin

And I'm not buying the whole we traded offense for defense BS. We've been complaining about scoring for the last 5 years, now that our offense is starting to look fluid dudes wanna act like we're having an identity crisis  :smh:

A reminder, Spurs rhat won the championship over Miami Heat, Spurs ran a 10 man rotation. That's something to feel good

Tough loss.
Played real sloppy bball tonite.

Had a chance to still win at the end of regulation but running an iso play and shooting a contested jumper was not the way to go. Had plenty of time to draw up a play and move the ball.

Rose and that step back jumper :smh: was disappointing. Ugly game not gonna win many games playing that poorly.

Drummond tho :x dude went to work.

I understand he likes that step back a lot but, he forgets that his floaters won him a good amount of game also.

That drive into middle of the paint, spin move to the floateright from 10 feet. That is money.

But, he is cyclops lol

Yeah he definitely needed to drive on that last shot. Hopefully he realizes this, that floater move disappeared a good while even before the injurys. His first years that was his go-to but he almost completely stopped using it.

We played way too loose tonight.

we will shake that off as a bad night but last night eluded to my point about defense. Even the best offenses will have games or moments you have to be able to turn to the defense. Pau & Niko can't start together or get the bulk of the minutes together and this isn't an exaggeration from last night, with Niko offense looking like that he should clearly stay but I believe healthy Noah should start to balance out that lineup on the boards & especially defensively

Rose I'm just gonna let him get healthy before I say much... just noticed he seemed truly uninterested until the 4th smh

drive instead of the stepback
1 or both foul shots win the game.......

we weren't going 82-0
hopefully the magic arent too salty from that kd & bestbrook wk so we can put another W on the board

I really feel like we have a big four here. Niko Pau Jimmy and Rose can all get you 30 any given night. We will see many nights where three of the four get you 20+. I hate seeing them give away leads to these up and coming teams. Hopefully that comfort with the new offense gets here before end of year. They're going to need home court in the playoffs and can't afford to blow it with early season losses like Friday night.

I love that Snell is getting the opportunity to start. I do want to see Portis get off that bench. If the kid is practicing hard, reward him with some minutes. This team is deep enough to go into some press sets and create more separation on the scoreboard.

That's a bit too far fetched claiming that those 4 players could give you 30 any given night. None of them are scorers in the caliber of a Durant, Westbrook, Curry or Lebron. Rose himself did it only for one season. Besides of that he is rather a 20+ ppg player type.

Good win, but we got to stop letting these teams creep back.
It's a learning process especially under a new offensive system, but we have to keep our foot on the pedal and close out these games strong.

Stacey mentioned this yesterday all but two players have played over 30 mins. Keeping all the guys fresh :nthat:

I need to see some more Portis.

Joakim Noah has been coming off the bench for the first time in five years.

Chicago Bulls new head coach made a surprising shake-up to start the season by bringing center Joakim Noah off the bench.

While the move was surprising, it made some sense — Noah and Pau Gasol were somewhat awkward fits last year, and the Bulls could get more spacing by playing Gasol at center and Nikola Mirotic at power forward.

The Bulls are 2-0 to start the season, and the decision to remove Noah from the starting lineup has largely looked okay.

After the Bulls season-opening win against the Cavaliers, Hoiberg spoke to Grantland's Zach Lowe about the change to the starting lineup and suggested it was actually Noah's decision:

Lowe: How was the conversation when you told Joakim he officially wasn’t going to start?

Hoiberg: "Jo actually came to me and talked to me about that. He said, basically, 'I’ve always played well with Taj.' He said he thought Niko and Pau played very well together, so let’s go that route. It was actually Jo that started the whole conversation. He came to me. That says a lot about him."

Lowe: Were you already leaning that way anyway — like as early as August or September?

Hoiberg: "I had thought a lot about a lot of different lineups. I hadn’t come to any type of conclusion. But it was great of Jo to just come and have that conversation."

This surprised many people, and showed that even if there are concerns about the Mirotic-Gasol pairing defensively, Noah himself thought it was for the better.

Except on Friday at shootaround, Noah told reporters it wasn't his idea:

Joakim Noah acknowledges that he didn't ask to come off the bench. He's just trying to do what's best for the team.
— Nick Friedell (@NickFriedell) October 30, 2015
Fridell added:

Noah is a proud player. He wants his team to win. But he didn't want to come off the bench, especially in a contract year. He wants to play.
— Nick Friedell (@NickFriedell) October 30, 2015
Friedell also said that Noah doesn't want to "rock the boat," so he'll accept the new role.

One possible explanation for these two versions of the change that it was Hoiberg's idea, and he told Lowe that it was Noah's idea to make Noah look more unselfish.

However, if Noah is saying it wasn't his idea, then there's little reason to believe he's lying and trying to deflect credit. Like Friedell says, Noah probably wants to start. Noah later said that given the Bulls depth in the front-court and the positional redundancy between him and Gasol, it's a good plan.

While this can't be classified as a disagreement, it does raise some questions. In the first game of the season, the Bulls starting lineup with Mirotic and Gasol was outscored by the Cavs and was giving up a rate of 125 points per 100 possessions. They fared better in a win over the Nets, but the Cavs are a title contender and the Nets are not expected to be juggernauts this season.

Avoiding the Noah-Gasol combination also seems like it's skirting the bigger issue. Who do the Bulls play down the stretch of a close game? Gasol and Mirotic, for the offense, or Noah and Gasol for the defense? While Mirotic-Noah seems to be an even blend, it also takes Gasol, one of the Bulls best scorers, off the floor.

How Hoiberg navigates this issue will be one of the keys to the Bulls season. While it can't even be called a problem yet, it is something under the surface that threatens to become an issue if the Bulls hit a rough patch.

Anybody else notice Drose sometimes passing the ball off and getting out the way? No give n go option nothing. Just passing and getting out the way, every game im noticing this.

I've defended him been patient everything....Does rose even care about basketball anymore two game in a row I watched him jog up the court hand the ball off and stand in the corner. Not a single game yet have I seen him sprint either..... Save the eye theory his effort has decreased each game which makes no sense.

Also stand by my assertion Niko and pau can't start together. Noah energy the team feeds off so much and his obvious better defense and rebounding outweigh what pau is brining

Too early for comments like that fam.
Although I see what you mean, we're only 4 games in. Let the boy feel himself in this new offense.
I said it before the start of the season, we should start either Pau/Taj or JO/Niko. We lack some rebounding sometimes.
Besides with the addition of Poris and the emergence of Niko, we should start Taj to get his trade value up.
