Jay-Z was not standing by while Kanye honed his skills. He barely likes him now he just needs him more. Look at how he treated him on "Fade To Black" then he uses his song, chorus and bridge. His idea from "Encore" as well.
Kanye was making those guys better NOT the other way around. That's why not a single ROC artist got better from say 02/03. Except Kanye of course. The one guy who supposedly wasn't good enough.
It took long for Kanye to pop cause they didn't know how to market a pseudo conscious rapper with a designer backpack and a chain on. He didn't have a jersey on. This is the Nelly/Ja Rule goin into 50 Cent era. To say he was different from the norm would be an understatement.
