RIP New York Hip-Hop? (Need Some Feedback)

Asap last album was fire.... Idk what yall talkin bout lol. And once again them dudes got looked over

I thought it was a good album, but just had less standouts than his debut, and definitely less than his mixtape which was damn near flawless. He's second album though didn't have absolute dumpster songs like Wild For The Night and Fashion Killa

NYC raps has da unfair burden of representing what is essentially East coast sounding type rap...we're not da only folks who make it..philly, jersey, etc. Hell Drake's mixtape cuts be east coast sensible production wise..

word i **** with rocky last album heavy to this day because it's a sound i can't find from anyone else in this day & age. Also Ferg is dropping a new album in the upcoming weeks (i disliked his last mixtape) traplord was Fire & he said he was working heavy with clams casino on it so i expect more of that darker sound which he usually floats on

I've been saying this

and New York rap has to be lyrical or the rapper gets dissed. Not from New York, from other parts of the country.

idk about all that these days cuz some of the less lyrical stuff coming outta NY gets luv throughout the country as well ...but To be fair tho NY kinda set themselves up for it with the slander that got sent at the south and other regions when when they was coming up , so only natural it comes back if you got NY rappers making dance rap or got trash lyrics ...then you got some ppl in their own city that won't let anybody live unless they spittin straight bars so that's just how it goes now

And that new fat joe is cool 4real , the good ole terror squad days :pimp:

That's true to a point, but most of those who were hating were old heads. my generation of NYC'ers always rocked with the official cats coming out of the south. we bad mouthed (And Will continue) those cats who were getting hype for putting out ******** rap. Those cats are the reason that an asian kid in the suburbs is able to make a trap rap song, and if it was played in the club you wouldn't be able to differentiate it from a lot of artist music nowadays.

Now you add in the influence of social media/internet, those kids dancing with trash lyrics are doing it because hiphop took a turn to anybody being able to do it. so it kind of works both ways.

Yes we did set ourselves up by only promoting lyrical and a certain sound, but the south also ushered in an era where lyrical skill wasn't needed at all & the sound barriers were clashed, so NYC shouldn't bare harsher criticism for making music that isn't up to par with 90's NYC because the south helped to create that trickle effect.

Either way, Rap as a whole is in a fine spot IMO (every region). What dominates the airwaves and clubs is no longer a showcase of what is truly hot & takes talent.

People keep saying that, but what does a 20 year old have to do with any of that?

So how did New York and he set themselves up for that? He had absolutely nothing to do with that. He maybe grew up on Lil Wayne and 50 Cent.

People keep referring back to what was occurring in 1994.

It's just funny to me how people will call Troy Average or diss French but be in a (insert 95% of down south rappers) thread. I just want people to be consistent with their argument and the obvious double standard and hypocrisy.

Well even ppl from his own city call him Troy average so I don't see your point with that dude  ...but like I said NY started this rap **** n was up for a long time , they chose to clown and slander stuff from different areas coming up ...ppl remember that and it's gon take time for that to go away so if NY rappers are doing the same stuff now that they used to call trash of course that's gon get called out don't matter how old the artist is ...u ignoring the hypocrisy as well of saying something isn't good then doing it and expecting to get the same treatment from ppl that's Been doing it or Messing with these 95% of south rappers you talking about ...can't have it both ways , NY set that standard up for themselves

And you talking bout 94, tf?? ...trap/dance /most south music was a joke to y'all a few years to a decade ago now u don't wanna catch heat for some NY rappers doing the same **** ? Yea ok

Naw man. Even as recently as 2006....I vividly remember NY people clowning snap music....while simultaneously loving "Chicken noodle soup". And claiming the south was ruining hip hop etc...when at the very Moment Jeezy, Wayne, Ross, TI etc etc were dropping great "lyrical" projects....and the other Southern legends were still poppin. NYC thumbed their nose so long at other regions...that the backlash for them doing the same thing they talked down on is natural.

A young Sebastian Telfair is sorta the personification of this .

And why do you continue to think that if you don't like Troy Ave or French Montana....you have to not like Young Dolph or something. Those artist aren't all the same man. When Troy Ave can make an anthem like "Preach" or "Cut it"...or he stops being below average in every category. I'll check for it.

And this isn't always true. The same cats that are in the Future/Dolph/Thug threads...are on the first page in the Dave East thread campaigning for him. You can like multiple sounds in hip hop man. I think you're just closed minded.

I went to school in the BX, and clearly remember seeing Snowman T's EVERYWHERE, Dipset was rocking with Wayne/Flip/UGK heavy, diddy was rockin with TIP.... Outkast was Huge here etc etc.

That era clowned the clown **** gettin played like we should have, all the ringtone rappers who are nowhere to be found now. The **** was trash then & time has shown that it was trash. Most of the Rara that was done at that time was from cats who grew up off that classic NYC sound and didn't want to accept change. The youth for the most part embraced the Hot southern rappers, the guys who are still here years later got respect.

And for the record Troy Ave is exactly that average... he isn't complete trash but he has nothing that really draws you in, add that to all his antics and it gets ridiculous

As great as NY hip hop was, what's been going on for the last decade is a classic case of chickens coming home to roost.
Basically what I'm saying , set themselves up for this and can't understand why ppl taking shots at em or don't mess with some of the stuff they putting out even if it's the same **** or not

No matter where you from this is something to agree on

You dudes don't seem to get, a 20 year old had no part of that. You guys keep talking about what happen 10 or 20 years ago. You keep talking about what New York did. What did a 20 year old do?

Bassy is like 30.

And what category is Young Dolph good in? Please let me know.

And me being close minded? Yeah I'm close minded to people who have no talent or creativity. Who don't push rap forward. That's why literally everyone off the street is doing it.

Then in the same breath you'll mention these imaginary hip hop rules like people aren't supposed to bite. Look at the South. The reality is you just feel New York isn't supposed to copy the South. It doesn't matter if other southern artist copy each other. The South has been eating off Gucci for over five years.

You don't understand that there is going to be a backlash because of that period of time that NY was looking down on other regions. Has nothing to do with whatever 20 year old you are talking about.

It's a really simple concept. trynafeelmink trynafeelmink seems to comprehend it. You can't for some reason.

And I'm using that Bassy video as a personification of the old "NY mentality". I thought you were smarter than that man. Really.

And there is nothing wrong with NYC being influenced by the south. I already mentioned in here I liked how ASAP paid homage to Houston and the Midwest with their interpolation and authentic NYC take on that sound. That's how you do it.

When we get full on clones like Desiigner. Idc where you're from. That's just unnaceptable.

Pretty much. He's just generic. He sounds way too much like 50/Max B to be taken seriously, like he's parodying them

It's nothing to comprehend, you're totally ignoring what I'm saying and the questions I posed. I'm wondering if you're comprehending what I'm saying or just ignoring it for convenience.

Desiigner is 20. Again, what is he supposed to do? What sort of hip hop rules have been established or followed over the past 20 years? Please tell me.

Like I said before, it's funny how you just ignore the Wayne and Gucci clones in the south. Desiigner does it and it's unacceptable

Hold up. Now it's "The East Coast"? Seems like we are all East Coast brothers only when it's convenient for NY. It's "The East Coast" under a unified sound when NY's under pressure. Eff out of here with that. Yall dudes love to love yourselves & that's it.

You seem to not understand there is real, palpable, lingering resentment. People from around the country aren't stupid. They fully understand the NY provincial mind frame. Yall dudes show no love. You don't think that resonates? You don't think the endless thumbing of your nose at any & everyone not NYC doesn't have an effect? You seem to think because it was 20 years ago all is forgiven. The South knows how you act. They've seen it before. Why would they let you back in the door? They know what you're going to do if NY does get back on. I cant blame them.

pull your skirt up b, u seem personally scarred about NYC

Dudes are acting as if NYC didn't **** with any southern music at all, we are getting to an era where NYC kids literally grew up on the south and you wanna hold on to resentment from 20 years ago..

Along with the fact that many southern rap fans are using the same EXACT attitude towards anything NYC rap related which is quite stupid considering people seem to be so effected by it to this day

ASAP wont ever get credit & its ashamed really. Them dudes are STILL making pretty good music. Rocky had my 2nd favorite album last year. And im lowkey kinda shocked how no one commented on them Westside Gunn & Conway songs posted a page or 2 back. Them jawns were all fire & yall just ignored them then wonder why NY hip hop dead :smh:
Weatside gunn Conway are nice, check out hus kingpin too he with them also

Check out this song called over the breaks on soundcloud
