Shooting reported at Umpqua Community College in Oregon.....Another one :{

Another gun free zone mass shooting. Gun free zones are easy targets and they continue to be targeted. Schools need armed guards, not gun free zones.
Or the government could make the gun laws more strict and invest a lot more in mental health.
The US is the only country where this happens constantly. When was the last time someone shot up a school in Switzerland? Nearly every household has at least one gun but mass shootings rarely ever happen there.

Colombia, are you from the U.S? Have you ever spent time in the US? Do you understand American culture and the reason guns are such a big part of our society? We are a country born out of Rebellion, Our founding father's knew how important guns are to our society and that's one of the reasons many of us own guns and support guns.

As far as Switzerland goes, you can't compare the two. Switzerland is smaller than the United States in just about every way. They own about half the guns we do. This isn't happening because of guns, this is happening because there's crazy people out there who want to do harm. Blaming this on the gun laws in the US is no different than white America blaming Eminem and Hip-Hop for problems going on in the early 2000's.

Bingo.  It doesn't have to be one or the other.  Investing money into mental health issues is not going to keep these type of situations from happening, but down the road when we are all dead and gone I'm sure it can and will have some impact on preventing these situations.  The 'quick fix' is gun control/gun laws.  A healthy mix of the two would be ideal.

To the mental health point:  If every killer had mental health issues, why do we have so many prisons?  Why are dudes getting 30-life instead of being put into mental health facilities.  Having mental health problems and being evil are not one in the same imo.
I think the government needs to look at Switzerland. It's the only country that can really be compared to the US in terms of guns per capita. They have loads of guns too but little to no mass shootings or anything.
A deep look into hiw Switzerland manages that would be very beneficial I think.
There's also the problem of the gun culture in the US. Many people feel they need a gun and changing the laws would probably create a massive outrage despite all the shootings.
All I know is that I live in a country with very strict gun laws and I don't feel the need to own a gun or worry about someone using a gun on me. We had a shooting spree in 2006 in Antwerp and the government changed the gun laws 3 weeks after the incident to be much more strict. It wasn't a small change either, it was very drastic.

No, you can't compare the US and Switzerland.

^
People can't even park correctly in parking spots or signal when changing lanes. The thought of people with guns trying to play hero in bad situations would worry me.

You would rather people be sitting ducks just waiting for a madman to come end their life? If YOU or someone in YOUR family was in that school today, would you like them to have a handgun and the ability to save their life?

My sister is a teacher at a local high school and I worry everyday, I wonder, "Will today be the day I get the phone call?" Truth be told, if a suicidal/crazy high school student wanted to go on a rampage at her school, it wouldn't be difficult. The student, who isn't old enough to legally own a gun, can walk around the neighborhood and find someone selling a burner for cheap. Nobody on campus has a gun, so my sister is essentially in god's hands. Then some politician want;s to come out and use her death as an excuse for gun control laws to keep her safe!? **** that.

I haven't researched it yet, but I will and I'll post it in here. I would like to know how often this happens in a state like Texas.

Switzerland has a percentage of the population of the USA, and thus its issues and solutions to issues can't be compared.

For people who don't believe that gun laws aren't the solution, what do you guys think would help? Genuinely interested.

Also do you think that the fact United States being the nation with highest guns per capita of any first world country does or does not correlate with the fact that the US also leads in mass shootings?

Why? Because there's sick people in this world who aren't being raised right. If they have some kind of issue with mental health, they probably aren't getting help.

You can't help in situations like this. You can try to stop them early, maybe with armed personnel on campuses?

Here is the thread where the gun man posted. The posters were egging him on. WTF are wrong with people man?: https://archive.is/KJ1LD

You obviously haven't used 4Chan before. 99.999% of what is posted there is ********. The site is full of professional trolls and you never know what to take seriously.

I wonder if they do background checks when im purcashing a 500 dollar glock from the plugs connect in a brooklyn basment???

You're paying too much unless it doesn't have a body on it.

It all comes down to freedoms man. We have more than those other developed nations. And honestly, I'm not comfortable trading in n a single one because some people are afraid.

we should legalize rocket launchers in canada, that way we will have more freedom than america

What more freedoms do we have over The UK, France, Germany, Japan, Spain, and other developed countries? This ishh don't happen over there plain and simple. America is so in love with guns and arming ourselves that it does more harm than helps. No ones asking to take yall guns, we just need reform and more attention to mental health.

Of course you can get a burner from Joe down the block for the low but we as a Nation need to at least try to reform gun laws somehow. We just sitting here getting numb to hearing this on the news every other month. Our kids, kids, kids will look back at this era in history class one day and wonder wtf took us so long.

People go on 4 chan talking about shooting up schools from all over the world b

There's a reason this almost exclusively happens in America

Listen i know sometimes it seems like a simple issue but it isn't. Trump wants to get rid of 11 or 12 million illegal immigrants and people say it's ******ed. How are you gonna get rid of 300 million guns?

Who here is arguing that the government needs to ban/confiscate all guns?

Sad. I grew up 90 or so miles from here.

As a result of this, America will only become more divided, more extreme, farther from resolution. The days of getting anything done are long gone.

I've always driven by this area to and from Cali and it seems like a nice and simple area of the state to live around. Always met friendly people at gas stations and at random food places down the years in Roseburg or the cities in that stretch of the state.

Guess they're saying the shooter is now 26 and was originally from the Midwest.

That's what alot of people mean by gun reform.
Well those people are insane a long with people who think Illegal Immigration reform means giving them all the boot :smh:

There's no way to get rid of all guns, maybe a more serious approach by the government to contain, educate and enforce laws on people who do own guns legally and illegally.
