CNN military analyst Rick Francona brought up the suggestion this afternoon that the Oregon school shooter may have specifically targeted the school because it was a “gun free zone.”

Francona brought up the same issue gun rights activists have brought up after other horrible shootings, that in gun free zones people are unable to defend themselves and so that’s why some crazy person with a gun might target that area.

Sooo there shouldn't be gun free zones because some idiots that claim to be fighting for their "rights" get upset when majority rule puts in place a policy that they don't agree with, and then they last out with violence.

Umm, that is terrorism.

So you're suggesting that folk should just roll over and let the terrorist win

Don't you realize that's exactly what a gun free zone creates? People that are essentially sitting ducks while some nut can come in and end their life with no ability to defend themselves.

So why don't we try to cut down on the nuts, or make it harder for them to obtain weapons; instead of appeasing them?

I have a feeling the day will come where someone shoots up a nursery and I will get to here such great arguments as:

-Nurse Nancy should have been strapped

-The hospital shouldn't have been a gun free zone, it made itself a target

-Or the "babies die errday" deflection

Dude there are so many guns out there that isn't gonna matter. They are here and worth money and people want them. The black market will NEVER go away. I could get a gun as easy as I could get tree which is also illegal. Black market will always be strong.

Mental health is the key, because the damage is done as far as guns being too easy to get. At least that's how I see it.

John Parker, a vet with a concealed carry permit was not allowed to go to the scene. School staff would not allow him and another vet to go try to stop the shooter :rolleyes He's being interviewed now on Hannity.

Mental health is the key issue for mass shootings, but it's not the key issue relating to the majority of gun violence in America.

I've grown tired of this debate, it's too much every damn time this happens.
I'll just live happily in NYC with it's Draconian gun laws & zero school shootings until the rest of America gets their s_ together.

Mental health is the key issue for the mass killings of psychopaths, but it's not the key issue relating to the majority of gun violence in America.

Yeah education and not being about that life is the rest. There will always be people about that life though. The numbers could definitely be reduced I think.

I'd say you could easily lump beta male bill who shoots his wife for cheating on him into mental health as well.

Living in NY and going to school in NY I never thought about schools in other states being gun free zones or non gun free zones.

What do you mean by gun violence?

Not defending anybody, but I could see how he could have been prevented from leaving a room if he was in lockdown. I think most schools have lockdown procedures so as soon as there is news of a shooting situation, the doors get locked and no "civilians" are able to leave or enter by the staff. Not saying I agree or disagree with these policies, just that I could see how staff members would not want to let anybody leave a room if they were trying to follow the schools protocol.
