OFFICIAL LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS 2023-2024 SEASON THREAD

Knowing doc's luck we'll play two teams missing their best players and beat them. Then get washed in the WCF and he gets a 10 year extension

Then he tells everyone we would have won if Luc didn't sprain his ankle in Game 3.

NBA says Durant's game-winner vs. Clippers shouldn't have counted

Monday night's matchup between the Oklahoma City Thunder and Los Angeles Clippers yielded a series of terrific plays by each team's superstars in the final minute. According to the NBA's "Last Two Minute Report" of late-game officiating calls (via PBT), though, two of the biggest plays in the Thunder's 100-99 win should have benefited the Clips, which likely would have turned the result their way, as well.

The first play ended positively for the Clippers, although it could have involved another point. With OKC up 98-97 and holding the ball on an inbounds pass after Russell Westbrook's steal of J.J. Redick, Dion Waiters threw his pass too hard and out of the reach of Westbrook. Chris Paul grabbed the loose ball and coverted this tough bucket to give the lead back to the hosts.

The report says that Paul deserved a trip to the free-throw line:

L-SLASH shows that as he falls to the ground, Westbrook (OKC) undercuts Paul (LAC) and makes contact with his left leg that affects his movement to the basket on the made layup attempt.

That's a tough break for the Clippers, although they still held a one-point lead with 10 seconds left even without the and-one. That was erased when Kevin Durant made what turned out to be the game-winner over Luc Richard Mbah a Moute:

Except that one shouldn't have counted either, because the league says that Serge Ibaka set an illegal pick to create some space for Durant:

Ibaka (OKC) extends his arms as he sets the screen on Mbah a Moute (LAC) without giving him room to avoid the contact.

I would honestly prefer th NBA stuck to their guns and said there was no foul on CP3, and the screen was legal. This **** does nothing for us now but confirm that we were robbed of a W to a team that we'll be fighting with for seeding.

Like I've said several times before, I WISH we got as many calls as the NBA Thread says we do. We'd be living good right now. Easily 5+ more wins right now if we got that early 2000's Laker treatment.

^^^ I was complaining about the officiating during the game even before the 4th quarter. It was pretty clear that they were giving Westbrook and Durant calls any time there was contact and we weren't getting that treatment. Sucks that it extended to calls that directly impacted the outcome of the game.

That's what happens when you have a repuation for flopping and whining unfortunately...

Clips don't get those calls when they should :smh:

No question. We have nobody to blame but ourselves for the treatment we get from the refs

I would agree with that but then I see Harden continues to put up historically high free throw numbers. He's made 30+ more FTs than amy other player has even attempted. Even in his own commercial there's a reference to him flopping.

Nah, I'm not buying that excuse. How about the refs just do their jobs

Harden flops, locks guys arms, kicks out his legs, etc., but he doesn't actually verbally complain that much. Doc, Blake and CP are constantly chirping at the refs. I think that's the difference. But the rules are the rules and the refs should not let personal grudges prevent them from calling otherwise clear violations.

If it's about complaining it's even worse. I could see the flopping excuse because then it's hard for them to determine if it was an actual foul or just a flop. But like I said, Harden still gets away with everything he does and everybody knows he's flopping.

If refs are getting their feelings hurt or annoyed and decide purposely not call fouls in our favor and but then call everything against us...that should be worthy of a suspension/firing

If you're *****ing, complaining, whining, flopping, after EVERY single play... The refs aren't gonna treat you how you think you should be treated... They might not consciously be treating them that way, but that's how it is and you know it.

If it bothers me watching in the seats, imagine how the refs feel about officiating this team.

Yea but how can that be an excuse for the refs purposely making decisons that will hurt the team. Their job is to be subjective. Shouldn't they be held accountable if what you're claiming is true?

Look, I think they were bad calls but I doubt it has anything to do with what you're saying. Refs just make bad calls. Trying to excuse them by saying rhe team complains a lot is not a good reason imo. I think we should be more bothered by the refs being petty and costing us games than about the Clippers whining. "The clippers whine too much" just seems like a copout. That shouldn't have any effect on how they do their job. They're paid to make the right call.

What you guys are saying rhe refs did is basically this.

-"that was a foul on Waiters but the Clippers complain a lot so im not gonna call it"

-"that was an and 1 for CP3 but he flops a lot so nope.

-"illegal screen but Doc's been crying all game so i'll let it slide"

How is any kf that cool? Say what you want about a team crying but how is this justifiable? And the refs aren't (as far as i know) going to be penalized for this in any way. Yet if Doc would have called them out for something the league would later admit to being bad officiating he would have been fined.

I get what you guys are trying to say. Im saying if it is actually going down like that they need to be reprimanded. They're deciding games over their personal feelings.

What I'm trying to say is I understand there are bad calls. Im never one to complain about bad calls because I know they'll more than likely even out over the year. But if you wanna give me a reason for the bad calls and the reason is that the refs hate the clippers because of how they act then that is in no way acceptable

*Edited to sound less douch-y

Like I said... They aren't consciously screwing the clippers. But when you play and cry a certain type of way... It's gonna happen.

In no way am I saying its justifiable or ok... But that's the way the cookie crumbles...

I've never seen a player try to cheese the game as much as cp3, add that to the fact that he and Blake whine ALL GAME LONG and that's gonna take away the benefit of the doubt that another star player may receive.

Again... I'm not saying this is okay, this is just my opinion

I think their reputation precides them especially with chris and blake.

They "cheese the game" but so does russ and steph when they flop on almost every shot they shoot. Or when draymond is yelling and crying after every call against him. Or when dmc is on the floor crying like a baby, or when harden is cheesing his way to the line, or Lebron when he doesnt get his way or kobe during his hey day...

Its the NBA man I can guarantee you that the clips dont cry more than the average nba team and their stars dont cry more than the average star does. Its the reputation which leads to selection bias from people who critize the clippers for their behavior.

They've been on the wrong end of 15 calls in the last two minutes of games this year but they're just supposed to sit idle? It is what it is.

Don't disagree with any of what you said. Its now an objective fact that - thanks to the NBA - we've been screwed a bunch of times this season. But obviously, complaining a lot every game is not helping. Unfortunately, perception becomes reality. We are perceived moreso than other teams as annoying whiners. Seems to me then that it is at least making a conscious effort not to complain as much and see if it makes any difference

Pretty much what I said in the NBA Thread earlier today. It's a snowball of hate and perception

Clips being the most hated team is comical to me. I became a fan about a year or two ago....but as a very neutral observer, this team wasn't crying or flopping more than any other team. And yes, they do whine a lot and have a culture of it.....but other teams do it just as much.

The media narrative has ALOT to do with this. First...after Blake Griffin didn't live up to some insane projections after his outstanding rookie year, he was pegged as "soft" and someone that "didn't show up in the playoffs", "most overrated player in the league", "hasn't improved", and "all he does is dunk". These lines of thinking were false and very premature. Then the hate from Blake shifted to cp3 who people have now come to wrongfully accept as overrated. A lot of this hate came slowly in the form that he got "passes" for not having deep playoff runs. Basically, advancing one more round.

Then, there was a notion that the Clippers were "stacked", which is completely false. There's still that notion today that they are "The most stacked team in the league". This is a team that features a 38 yr old Pierce, 36 year old Crawford and Austin Rivers, Lance Stephenson and Wes Johnson as key contributors.

This has been a 2nd to almost 1st tier Western Conference team since Cp3 got there. Realistically, they've been the 3rd best team in the conference behind the Spurs and OKC...and typically...that's where they finished. This is a team with a great starting 5, and horrible bench. The narrative was if this team is so good, and cp3 is such a great PG....then there's no way this team hasn't gotten past the 2nd round. Not realizing Chris Paul or Blake Griffin aren't better than the Spurs or Kevin Durant and the Thunder.

Then there was the notion that "lob city" was just a fast paced team that couldn't beat a team grind it out team like "Memphis"....despite the fact that they best Memphis and had a good half court offense. And everybody that used to like "lob city"....now started to hate the more serious approach. now was tuned into constant talking heads calling Cp3 "Cp0"....coming up with this conference finals or you suck rhetoric...and constant vines of Cp3 and Blake flopping. You see that everyday, combined with the epic collapses last year + the meme and vine culture....and it's understandable why it's easy to hate this team. Bandwagon mindless hate to me.

Most people that I've found that hate the Clippers are either Lakers Fans, watch first take religiously, follow skip on Twitter, let Vines tell them the whole story, and rely on team stream apps to give them updates....which is about 85% of NBA fans .

Clips the past 4 years have been a team that's been unclutch, unlucky and tight in big moments. Has this team chocked? Yes. Should they have made a conference finals appearance by now? Maybe. But the notion that this team is "trash" and "a joke" is foolish.

apropos of the discussion in here:

Los Angeles Clippers ‏@clippersbuzztap · 10m10 minutes ago
http://foxsports.com >> Doc Rivers says Clippers' perception doesn't matter if they're winning http://buzztap.com/-8G55V4

Here's the problem Glenn, we're not winning - at least against the teams that are ahead of us or when it really counts. So, perception does matter.

Y'all want Lawson for Josh Smith?

Yes, but you have to take Rivers and Jamal too.  Don't care what the cap filler is from HOU's end.

But what's up with Lawson?  Y'all don't think it's something that can be fixed with more time?  I just find it strange that he's struggled so much.

Rivers and Jamal akjshljahsdasda.

I just don't know man, it's currently 30 games, and there hasn't been any hint of improvement, whether starting or coming off the bench. I thought he would seamlessly fit and be able to legit relieve Harden, but it's been the opposite. He literally looks drunk out there. Out of the 28 games he's been in, he's been good about 2, one of them a loss tonight. It's weird.

Pretty much what I said in the NBA Thread earlier today. It's a snowball of hate and perception

Exactly bro. Im not saying the clips dont complain a lot, but watch the warriors or thunder or whoever critically enough and you'll see they complain just as much as the clippers do. Its the nba

Here's an example of Doc Rivers failing to use analytics to aid his coaching and also choosing familiarity over logic. I posted this in the nba thread as well:

In among lineups that have played over 150 minues this season the core four plus lance stephenson have a net positive rating of +18. Thats good for 2nd best in the entire NBA to this point.

That lineup has played 7 total minutes in the month of December.

But guise it gets better!

Against the thunder the core 4 plus lance played 4 seconds together

Guise it gets better than that!

Pierce and crawford have played 339 minutes together and in lineups in which they are both together they are a net negative -11.

Man what a time...what a ******* time to be alive
