OFFICIAL LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS 2023-2024 SEASON THREAD

^^^ I said this before -- maybe in here or on Twitter -- I think 2-3 3pt FGAs for Blake is perfect. Wouldn't want it to be any more than that unless he gets really hot.

Felton needs to play more than Austin and Jamal.

at the 1...
agreed

would love to see austin be a big time slashing/athletic/defending 2, and let JC do whatever the heck he's gonna do when he's in the game

if austin played big mins at the 3, opposing 3s would shoot over him all game

Like who? Besides Lebron, KD, and maybe Melo there aren't any real bonafide three's that would just take advantage of Austin in that manner. Besides, those guys are eating on Luc, or whoever is going to be guarding them anyway. Midas whale defend them with the only real two way wing that we have on the team. It's not ideal, but it's certainly worth a look to me. I've seen Austin hold his own defending KL, KD, Paul George, and other wings.

I can almost guarantee you you're going to be seeing lineups with Rivers guarding the opposing team's wing(s) to close the game.

like who? you only mention the bonafide superstars that he would have trouble with overall. and that IMO is enough to not play him as the starting SF

i am just clearly stating that a 6'4'' STARTING SF would have issues with taller players simply shooting over him consistently. you dont have to go thru a who's who at the SF to clearly see that he would have issues in that area.

just in the pacific division alone there is KD like you mentioned,

omri casspi - shot 48% last year and 40% from 3. btw he's 6'9'' and the projected starting SF in SAC (remember, i am just speaking of shooting over rivers as if he wasnt there. not saying he'll dogg rivers in every way. kinda like curry got dogged in the finals last year.)
brandon ingram - legitimate 6'9'' maybe even 6'10'' with a baby butt soft jump shot. (lakers projected starting SF)
even jared dudley in PHX is 6'7'' and shot 42% from 3 last year

WEST

chandler parsons listed at 6'10'' more like 6'9'' shot over 40% from 3

the Klaw - 6'7'' shot 44% from 3 last year/danny green will see time at the SF, he shot north of 40% in 4 of the last 5 years listed at 6'6''

and thats just a few names in the west.

so total, thats like 9 SFs, thats almost 1/3 of the league without even touching the eastern conference. (other than lebron and melo)

Come on fam, Brandon Ingram?! Caspi?! Parsons?! Jared Dudley?! None of these guys will be featured on offense enough to where they are going to abuse Austin. Sacramento is not going to break their offense to feature Caspi v Austin Rivers

Brandon Ingram is a rookie, Jared Dudley is....yeah.

Just go down the west, where are these 3's are going to just take advantage of AR? How many 3's in the west are big enough parts of their offense to where they are going to feature them when Austin is guarding them? I just don't see it.

Again, out west there aren't enough 3's that are just going to abuse Austin at the 3, and to me that is enough to at least take a look at it. Even out east, there aren't many 3's that are just going to take advantage of Austin

You're making my point. There aren't enough two way players out west to not justify at least considering Austin at the 3 and he'll for sure get a lot of minutes there this season.
On another note, praises of his jumper have been sung plenty since Training camp opened, but man it's great to see

again, you're not listening...

these are players that are much taller than austin rivers and shoot north of 40% from 3. not enough players at SF? i see 8 good examples without really looking out east of great examples of why playing ANY SHORT PLAYER AT THE 3 ISNT A GOOD IDEA. 8 opposing SFs is nearly 1/3 of the whole league

nobody said anything about abusing rivers offensively, just that taller SFs that shoot the ball well will have no problem doing just that. shooting the ball well.

this is the NBA homie... a 40%+ shooter that is 3 inches or more taller than the man that is guarding him will shoot a very high percentage with no problem.

to debate that is just silly.

this isnt even about austin rivers personally, its about starting any barely 6'4'' player at SF to guard a 6'7'' or taller player that has a great shooting touch.

it isnt about being featured on offense or cooking austin rivers offensively. what it IS ABOUT is spreading the floor and having a SF that can/and will catch and shoot 3s with no hesitation because he isnt the least bit worried about his shot being contested. and...because of that, losing games because jared dudley, casspi, parsons went 5 for 9 from 3.

what IT IS, the difference between being a 60+ win team and 2nd seed in the west and being a 53 win team and finishing 4th in the west because you let busters score 15+ points from the 3 point line by playing a shorty at the 3.

Damn STAPLES Center is almost 20 years old, that's a crazy thought. It seems so modern and new to me, that it's never really dawned on me that it's not "new" anymore. Crazy to think LAC has been in STAPLES for 17 years.

Remember when they officially moved to Staples and my mom essentially got laid off because they didn't have enough events to support the staff. **** AEG.

I remember I had friends moms, who basically got kicked out of their living situations due to essentially gentrification. Paid them like 500 bucks for them to move. It was a wild time. Wrote a paper about it a year ago in school.

Oh, that happened to us too

Used to live on 27th and Vermont (Catalina to be specific) and one day they gave my parents x amount of money and x amount of time to get out. We ended up having to live with my grandma for my first semester of High school. Walked by my old apt one day and saw some white USC kids coming out of there  :smh:

**** USC too

The staggering of Blake / CP that Doc has been doing in the preseason is something I LOVE.

Hope it continues into the season.

I really wouldn't be surprised if Mo Speights isn't on the team by the end of the season.

He reeks of Byron Mullins and former clipper great Spencer Hawes.

Yeah. Stretch 5s haven't really panned out for us have they? LOL.

Gonna turn this **** off soon because we look terrible all around. I know Doc is experimenting with line ups, but still . . .

Jamal has been awful so far in the preseason. Like, really bad. He needs to stop spending his Summers playing against dudes who are about as good as me...

I really don't want him on the team anymore. don't care what anyone has to say, he needs to go. idc how good someone was 5+ years ago

JJ is not looking particularly sharp yet either, but I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt. IIRC, he started off a little slow last year and then went on to have his best season. I think he'll come around.

yea I'm fine wit JJ, just Jamal us the thorn in our paw imo

Tbh he kind of has to regress. Even if its just a little bit. 32 year olds shooting 48% on 3's on over 5 attempts per just doesn't happen. That being said, even if he were to regress to say, 44% from deep, that would still be very good.

Besides, JJ's biggest asset to LAC is his motion and gravity. Even if he's going stone cold and can't make a shot, he still has tremendous value due to his movement off the ball. You have to know where he is at all times. This is why JJ's missing doesn't bother me too much. Him just being out there on the floor is already incredibly positive for the Clippers
