OFFICIAL LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS 2023-2024 SEASON THREAD

Great comeback. Sometimes we're so hard on Jamal, rightfully so, that we forget how awesome he can be. Hasnt had a game like that in AGES.

Missed out on Yeezys this morning and went in at the store... Black DJ jersey, black clips shirt, xmas snapback. LOL.

Good solid win.

Jamal and BG came through. Keep stacking wins. GSW next up

Jamal and Blake were brilliant, but what won the game is that we finally locked in and showed some intensity on D. Did a great job on both Drummond and Bobby Shmruda in the second half.

Need to keep that up.

Luc needs to get more burn. D'ed up and was finally grabbing boards. Too frustrating to watch. Doc needs to utilize the whole roster man.

if DJ doesnt find a way to get to 50% free throws at least for a playoff stretch, its gonna really bite the clips in the butt.

Potentially.

The defense needs work, but if we can get our defense to where it was during the 2nd half of last season, then I don't think DJ's free throw shooting will play that big of a part in the outcome, win or lose.

We're usually extremely successful when people hack DJ, and that's in large part due to us being able to set our defense up thanks to a team putting DJ at the line so frequently. Also takes the other team out of their rhythm having to constantly play 5v5. This is also why in most cases I personally would keep DJ in the game during these hack a DJ scenarios, especially if we're going to continue rebounding at the piss poor rate that we are currently rebounding at.

What is the reason for the rebounding woes? DJ, Cp3 and Blake are all good to great rebounders for their positions.

I think some of it has to do with Blake leaking out a Lil too early sometimes, and the team leaving the boards to DJ. Think a more team oriented rebounding approach would work. I get that having Blake run the break, and quick post or get early action in the shot clock is important...but defensive rebounding is the last part of defense.

I think DJ is an amazing rebounder, but his defensive rebounding numbers are misleading and sometimes harmful to the overall scheme.

IMO The starters rebound and defend fine. It's the 2nd unit, our back up bigs that can't rebound. The last two years, we've thrown out guys like Big Baby, Paul Pierce, Spencer Hawes, J Smoove, etc. as our 4 and 5 men to man the boards and that just won't work.

I see. Fair point.

Brenden Dawson is a hell of a rebounder though...[emoji]128064[/emoji]. Wonder how the team rebounded when Reggie Evans was on the squad.

I sincerely hope that this is a sign of Blake turning the corner. Most of this video is nothing we haven't seen, except his play in the fourth quarter. Maybe because CP wasn't there, or maybe it's just natural development, but look at him in the 4th quarter. Completely confident, looking to make plays, not wetting the bed and throwing up caca because he's so scared he resorts to old bad habits, it was great to see and hopefully this is a sign of him being confident and self assured in the 4th.

I wish doc would give Branden a chance

Thing is, he's done that on occasion in the regular season before, both with and without CP. So, that's why I find his fourth quarter playoff struggles a little baffling and highly frustrating. Maybe the Detroit game is a sign that he'll do it consistently, but I'm hesitant to expect it at this point.

Luc Richard<<<<<<<<
Luc, in the short time that he's been in this season hasn't been so bad and is probably the best small ball 4 we've played on the defensive end. (Out of him, Wes, PP)

He was a +12 against Detroit. Not the highest on this stat but it really did appear that way. But I still think if we're going to play retreads at the 4 like Luc, then there is certainly an opportunity there for Branden to help if we're going with the small ball four thing for the 2nd unit.

Read on Twitter this morning that both JJ and CP are doubtful for Thursday. :frown:

agreed 100%...but we really need to get to a point where DJ is hitting 1 of 2. its so deflating to the clips as a team when he's missing 4,5,6 in a row

dont know what to say. not gonna beat anyone giving up 120+ points. 22-5 loss down the stretch and at times looked lost on offense. absolutely no ball movement.

long season and i think even with the results after 2 games w/ GSW they know its not gonna be a cake walk

I hate how we are so quick to switch our bigs onto steph. That just wont work.

Also, im gonna have to watch a replay because i need to see how and why we were giving up WIDE OPEN corner threes on back to back possessions. The warriors are just way too deep. They can still play good ball with their best players out. We can't. I think the first two games proved that our starters are just as good as theirs. It's when we have to take CP3/Blake out that we get in trouble.

And as always Doc waits until the team ties the game or takes the lead to bring the horses back in.

- The corner threes are the result of the force behind steph curry. The Steph Curry / Draymond Green Pick and Roll is the best play in basketball. You blitz it like the clippers did, and you end up with Draymond having his pick of Barnes / Iggy for open corner 3's.

- The Big lead wasn't sustainable. We were shooting lights out and Curry and Draymond were in foul trouble.

- Jamal Crawford and PP are so bad on offense but really defense, that having them start together is a recipe for diaster. PAUL PIERCE PLAYED 31 MINUTES WHILE WES JOHNSON PLAYED 16 MINUTES. This can't continue if we're seriously trying to beat the elite tbh. The Crawford Pierce tandem played 24 min together tonight and they had a DRTG of 141.2 That is incredible. LAC DRtg with Jamal was at a staggering 133.2.

- Prior to tonight, 9 clipper duos had played 165+ min together. The only duo from the team that had a negative NetRtg? Jamal and PP.

- I don't know how you play PP 31 minutes man. I also don't know how you actually can think playing PP and Jamal together is a good idea. How can you actually close with a lineup WITH BOTH CRAWFORD and PIERCE.

- Jamal Crawford played more minutes than Josh Smith, Wesley Johnson and Lance Stephenson played combined. This is ridiculous. We would legit be better if Wes Johnson, Austin, Josh Smith, and Lance Stephenson were played more and Jamal and PP played WAY less. It's sad that Doc should HAVE to be made to play his son more.

i actually think the bigs switching on to curry did a fine job at running him off the 3 point line. and i believe it was only griffin switching. i dont think DJ switched

chuck barkley pointed out something after game that i totally agree with. BG had several offensive possessions where he saw a double and there were 2 things that didnt happen, he didnt pass the ball out effectively and players didnt do a great job at making themselves available. one possession he tried a crazy 1 legged 360 jumper that almost went in. BG also posts up at 15 feet instead of 7 feet like he should. there is not 1 player on GSW that can guard blake now. he handles draymond green and bogut is a non factor.

there were alot of uncontested 3s as well...not uncontested because the players were wide open, but uncontested because the clips just didnt put a hand up.

late game was a big clusterF**K on offense with no passes, standing around with thumbs in azzes.

PP is a liability on defense but the real issue is the clips arent even running plays for him that allows him to get to his spots on the elbows and at the corners of the freethrow line. he's basically a spot up 3 shooter.

the corner 3s were a product of penetration and kick, which is a product of having to pay so much attention to curry. they also got a few in transition with help of lazy defense on the clips part.

good thing is, still 2 more games against these busters and 70+ games to go...to figure stuff out.

This is where JJ Reddick comes into play. His off ball initiation is an offensive set within itself, and his ability to move off the ball, along with the gravity that he possesses makes his pindowns, hand offs, all the more lethal. This is where we missed him tonight, especially late.

And you are correct, we did a very good job in the 4th of switching but we went to switching AFTER we blitzed curry and Iggy and Klay burned us with some backbreakers.

But in  all seriousness, our offense down the stretch was bad but you cannot expect to win against the elite any game, in which you are playing Pierce and Crawford down the stretch in 2015. The defense is so bad, and then doc and lawrence were blitzing the P&R which is basically suicide.

This is true, but the reason he post up so far, especially in the 4th is because of how hard it is to make a post entry pass in the 4th when primarily, CP is the one trying to deliver the ball and he's being guarded by 6'7 guys like Iggy and Klay. The amount of time it takes to get blake the ball is so long because of that, that he ends up getting it against the clock and farther than he intially wanted the ball.

This happened in the first half too, he just made the shots. Shots that you can't live with down the stretch when the pressure's on.

agreed cant play PP and crawford together. would like to see austin rivers at 2 and lance or even josh smith @ the 3. i dont know how i feel about wesley johnson, especially when his past shows him to be a so-so defender at best.

that could be the case but honestly if you cant make an entry pass to BG in the post, you shouldnt be in the NBA. every other team in the league can make that pass with no problem. pay me 200k a year and i'll make the pass myself for Christ sake.
