OFFICIAL LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS 2023-2024 SEASON THREAD

Must have been some stuff going on behind the scenes then, I guess. But frankly, I wouldn't blame Josh for being openly unhappy about his role. And I find it hard to believe there was anything going on that bad that this is going to end up being addition by subtraction.

Plus, we cant just not have a true back-up PF.

HEATED

This is the perfect example of why no one should be GM and coach. Doc playing favorites on the court, I managed to deal with. But trading away someone with Josh's talents for nothing to someone we might have to face is just dumb. Doc probably told him he ain't giving PT and the organization was respectful enough to send him where he wants.

Just when I was starting to tolerate Doc... :smh:

Who is that? I'm dead serious.
I know him as Jeff Pendergraph, from ASU. Hasn't done much of anything in the league. Last I saw / heard of him he was a rotation big for the Spurs.

He could be helpful and serviceable. But that's if he plays and If i'm not mistaken, he plays the 5 so I don't know he's going to get a real chance. but we'll see.

obviously some big issues behind the scenes with josh smith. i am all for addition by subtraction sometimes.

plus cole aldrige has shown that he can give 15-20 min at backup PF if need be

Seems like a pretty pointless signing to me. Would rather have the team call up Dawson from the D League, TBH.

From what I read, the Ayers signing is 100% financial. See below.

The signing temporarily mitigates the tax savings the Clippers are achieving in the Smith swap. Ayres will cost the Clippers $55,722 in payroll, the same amount Smith would over the 10-day period, plus tax penalties if they’re still above the $84.74MM threshold at season’s end. However, the Clippers, who’ll be at about $95.5MM in team salary following the trade and prior to the Ayres signing, aren’t obligated to re-sign Ayres after the 10 days are up, a luxury that Smith’s contract didn’t afford them.

Thanks for the info.

OK, so the signing wasn't completely pointless . . . just pointless from the perspective of actually trying to improve the team's on-court performance.

After all these complaints we've had we're only one game off of last year's pace

And I believe exactly a year ago is when Blake got that Staph infection and missed a month or whatever it was. So we have almost an identical record with more injuries.

I'm guessing we'll finish at around 53-29. We got really hot at the end of the season last year.

Funny, I have us finishing 54-28

literally almost the exact same thing

We're done in this game. Thanks to the bench playing like dog **** in the second quarter, we've totally lost any kind of juice. And I just don't see it coming back.

Could sense it at the end of the first. Games are lost early in basketball sometimes. 2nd qtr bench meltdown assured this. Starters battling though.

Credit to Toronto though. Like Mike Smith said during the broadcast, really looked the Raptors had us well scouted. Were all over that Pablo/Cole P-n-R.

Blake flew back to LA. Im guessing he'll play on the 31st against the bulls.

Welp. If we can pull out 1 more W on this trip, I'll be satisfied. Not happy, but satisfied. Indiana on Tuesday seems like the best chance.

When the Clippers medical staff says "weeks" we know that usually means at least a month. Blake gonna be gone till March  :smh:

WTF X 1000???!!!! And what's an "undisclosed team-related incident?" I don't know, but it can't be good if I caused a broken hand.

I'm just glad we have a solid back up PF on the roster...oh, wait...

How you break your hand in a fight with a team staff member?

Was secretly hoping it was Doc or Austin

Honestly, don't care what the guy said to him, but Blake is showing that he really is a PAB. That's two incidents in the last 8 months or so when he's put hands on someone smaller than him. He needs to grow up.

^^^ So we shouldn't expect to see Blake playing against until well into March. Awesome. Barring Doc pulling off a very successful trade, which I don't expect, I think we drop out of a home court play off spot during that time.
