OFFICIAL LOS ANGELES CLIPPERS 2023-2024 SEASON THREAD

We're actually lucky to only be down 3 at half. Got nothing from anyone outside of CP, JJ and Jamal.

8 in a row. Keep stacking W's.

Not much to take away from today. CP was on it. Good contributions from Jamal, JJ, DJ, and others.

Dont know if AD is gonna play or not tomorrow but regardless its a must win for us.

Once Cp3 finds his 3pt shot again, look out. He's been getting to the line more recently as well with the exception of last night.

Feel he's going to have a really good second half of the season :pimp:

Sold my tix and went to a bar with the homies for the football games. I really only caught the end of the 4th and OT but glad to see we escaped with a W. Take em how we get em.

For the first time this season, the Clippers have both a top ten offense and top ten defense. They are not the Clippers of the beginning of the season. They are defending, taking a lot of 3's, and getting contributions from their bench. They are 17-5 since Mbah Amoute has entered the starting lineup.
I like where we're at. While I don't think Luc is the long term solution at the 3, can't argue with the results at the moment.

Gained a full game on OKC yesterday.
Nine straight wins makes the Clippers the hottest team around, and 52.8% three-point shooting from J.J. Redick  during that winning streak makes him the NBA’s hottest shooter. He’s on one of the best runs of his career and has galvanized the league’s third-most efficient offense over that span.

I still have very tempered expectations for the team. The streak has coincided with a very weak schedule and us catching a lot of breaks on top of that with other teams having players out. I'm going to reserve judgment as to whether we're actually significantly improved until we face some tougher teams.

To Lawdog's point, the 5 game east coast roadie in a few weeks plus games against the Cavs, Miami, and Houston (a team we've struggled with this year) will tell a lot.

But when you're elite, (and coming into the season we were in my eyes) there's only about four, or five teams maybe that they "shouldn't" be better than to begin with. I say that to say, with this team its more about how they're playing than who they're playing because this team is elite, and there are only so many games you can play against those elite teams

For reference, The Clippers, OKC, and The Golden State Warriors are 24,25,and 26 in strength of schedule with San Antonio being dead last at 30. So while our schedule has been easy, so has most of the other elite teams in the West.

Some other notes:

Remember when PP was getting his stroke back? He's 9 for 31 over his past four games.

Luc has made 10 shots outside of the restricted area all season. We really are winning in spite of Luc and there are still some red flags with this team.

Yeeup. I also feel like Wes has cooled from 3 a bit, even in the corners. But I haven't checked the numbers.

Notwithstanding that I still feel like there are a lot of questions about this team, one thing I am fairly confident of is that we will NOT make any significant moves before the deadline. And I'm ok with that. As I said, I really don't see any trades out there we can realistically pull off that will have other than a marginal impact on the team's success. Assuming, of course, that the organization is not ready to break up the core - and I don't think it is.

Sorry, bros, but I think the streak ends tonight, especially with DJ questionable. If DJ's out, the only way I see us pulling this out if we go small, get Whiteside out of the game and get real hot from 3.

Luc gonna have to go off for 6 pts, 4 rebounds if DJ is out.

-The defense is further along than I anticipated it would. We currently have a top 10 defense and you saw it tonight, which is even more impressive considering DJ didnt even play

-Pablo stabalizes things so much. I reaaalllyyyy wish we could keep him within the rotation but once blake comes back there's gonna be an imminent lineup shift thats gonna alter the 2nd unit. We've struggled under doc to put together a dependable, consistent 2nd unit and it looks like we've found it. Dont really wanna touch it, especially the pablo and cole thing. But we'll see

I don't want to jinx it but I don't think even Doc is hard headed enough to not keep Pablo-Cole as on the second unit. We need to try to somehow turn Josh and/or Lance into someone who will actually get some minutes.

I don't see it happening. There's only so many minutes to go around and it seems pretty clear at this point Doc will never give DNPs to PP or Jamal if they're capable of playing. Austin seems unlikely to fall out of the rotation as well. So, I just don't see us being able to trade Josh and/or Lance for someone who will crack the regular rotation. I could be wrong though.

Has to be Luc, man. I don't care how many games we win with thsi guy. If/when we start going up against teams like SA, OKC, GS in the 'offs there is no way his 4ppg is gonna be enough for us. And I don't see him playing good enough defense against a KD to offset that.

Seeing Cole drop 19 does have me wondering whether we should have just let DJ walk. I love DJ and the athleticism he brings but we could have replaced him with cole+Mcgee, and Eventually use that money towards a sf next offseason or whenever Jamal's contract is up.

Not just his 19, it's his ability to make plays off the bounce, right and left handed jumphooks, makes free throws, makes decisions in traffic, and while isn't the high fly act defensively that DJ is, he's just as tall and bigger, which allows him to be a better position defender. My brother keeps telling me that Cole is a better basketball player than DJ, and while I don't want to admit it, y'all two have me really thinking. It's to the point lowkey where I'm worrying whether or not, down the line, will Cole be on the floor enough in the playoffs. He needs to play for us to have a chance, and so does pablo to an extent.

The Cole and Mcghee thing is an interesting prospect, but we were still up against it financially even if we didn't resign DJ. I don't know what Javale's contract is with Dallas, but it is an interesting prspect indeed. Regardless, having Cole as a backup instead of Spencer / Big Baby is awesome

Over the last year or so, I've run into Coach Nick plenty of times. Good friend of mine. Erupt knows his work I'm sure. Broke down the Clips stretch recently, so decided to post it in here.

Also, while I still don't think we're really capable of winning a 7 gamer against GSW or SAS (yet...We're developing into being capable of that though. We're trending upward IMO) Doc Rivers the GM looks like he may have hit on what he's been trying to hit on since he got to LA.

When you have a team that has two, and three max guys, you have to hit on your buy low guys to win big in the nba. The Spurs do it. The Warriors did it with Curry. And by buying low on Cole, Pablo, to a degree Austin, it's a risk and gamble that you hope works in your favor and so far it has...even if it took some crazy circumstances for them to play extensively.

Random Tidbit: Our defense is much further along than I anticipated.
Since their last loss to the Golden State Warriors, the Clippers have quietly become the second-best defense in the NBA, holding opponents to 98.8 points per 100 possessions, trailing only the San Antonio Spurs.

I could be totally wrong but I want to say the following is true.

-Jamal is up after this year: 6 mil
-Lance is up after this year: 9 mil
-DJ being gone would have freed up what, 19 mil?

-Mcgee signed for 1.2
-cole signed for 1.2

That's 32 mil freed up after this season. Endure one rocky season and then you're at a pyroll of about 65 mil.

But hey, hindsight is 20/20.
