Garbage *** Byron making his rounds on all the ESPN shows today. Acting like it's up to him to get back into coaching, he will never get another head-coaching job in the NBA.

Neither prospectives are wrong, some want guys who are proven and elite right now, and some are wlling to wait and see if we have that guy now, but I just hope they acknowledge that it's possible that none of these guys ever reach that level, that's all.

Just respect LTB's opinion on how he wants his team to improve, don't have to be condescending with your response. Nobody in here is more elite than anyone else, we all basically just shooting the ****.
No, the opinion, "They will not be anything in 10 years" is as wrong as ""They will all be legends."

"They COULD be nothing in 10 years" is correct."

"They will not be" is... wrong.

As in not right.

Of course i dont know with CERTAINTY, its just my guess.
I didnt mean to sound like it had 0 percent chance of happening (i know that kinda did )...just unlikely to ME, unless circumstances change.

They PROBABLY will not be as valuable individually in their careers as a prime PG, probably.
Of course with hard work, surrounding them with more talent, and great coaching and development they can prove me wrong.

and i hope they do, sincerely.

Funny thing about Byron is he would have been an okay lead assistant under Puke for his first year coaching.

Wonder how many people would have been on board with trading Bynum + LO + Crittenton + 3 first round picks for Pau?

Because that's what it would take to land George. Larry Bird is not going to hand over PG without taking everything we have. There is no Clarkson for PG straight up trades to be had.

So all of this nonsense is for nothing other than people just explaining their preferences to team building. And it will never, ever, ever, ever be a good idea to tank for 3 years, and end up with only a 26 year old All Star and maybe one kid if you're lucky.

Would everyone offer DLo/Ingram/Clarkson/Nance/2 first rounders for Harden? He's a top 10 player from the area.

We offerin up all those players/picks for Boogie?

Klay Thompson?

Like was mentioned on the last page, trading multiple assets for Deron, Melo, Dwight, and so far CP3 hasn't worked out. Hell, who has come to play with Chris Paul in LA since he joined the Clippers? Blake and DAJ were already there. Who came to help him? Clipps haven't got passed the 2nd round and he's turning 31 Friday.
The Knicks coulda had Melo just a few months later AND all their picks and young players, they instead took Melo (a top 10 player) what it get them?
How'd Deron work out for Brooklyn?

Lemme guess, that won't happen to Paul George, right? We'll "build" around him, with no more draft picks for multiple years, and only 1-2 other stars to come play with him.

"It'll work this time"

Funny though you guys hate when people are condescending to ya'll but someone have an opinion that differs from yours and you quick to throw out the insults.

All good tho man.

This is friendly Lakers/Basketball debate. I aint taking it personally (i used to, i know, but i know its not personal now).

Yeah i see ya'll on Twitter throwing those subliminal insults about our in-thread discussion here.
All good. I see ya'll tho.

Well first to find out what you have and a better idea of who you're willing to trade and who you want to keep.

I love PG's game. But not enough to give up 3 or 4 really good assets for. There are only a few players that are worth that to me, and he's not one of them.
Take everything except D'lo or the lottery pick. Pacer's choice.

PG in the right system is a top 5 player right now. His problem is he's just  good enough to be the primary option. If all he had to do was focus on his elite skills, he'd be better than Kawhi. We've just never seen him on a team where he didn't have to run the offense. If only there was a role in the warriors system that calls for a guy who can lock down 1-4, pass, and hit open jumpers.

Ok even if he is. Let's look at the last 4 times a star was traded for assets. D Will, Carmelo, Dwight and Chris Paul.

CP is the only successful trade, mainly because he forced his way out and had to go. And he's much better than PG, and Cousins for that matter.

It's just not a good way to build a team, unless a once in a lifetime deal comes around.
You're right for the most part. But PG is different in that he's a complete player. You don't need anyone on the court to compensate for any part of his game

ie) Melo needs help defense , CP needs guys to pass to, DeRozen would need a bunch of stuff.

Lakers are also in a unique position because of the cap space. You could build a lineup that perfectly compliments PG  and don't need to waste any positions with specialty players (see: JJ Reddick).

All we give up are assets, which is basically just hope at this point. I think its more of a gamble to hope that ALL our guys reach their potential and produce a team that's better than one built on chemistry  around possibly the most physically gifted and talented player in the league.

I'm starting to lean towards just keeping our pick and not let go of any of our young guys...for once I want to build a team from a draft

There's that elitist attitude this debate has been missing. Never mind that the Clippers have been capped out since they've had CP0 and already had another star in tow. Or that New York already had Amare at that point who had been having a MVP caliber season before trading for Melo. By the way what became of Wilson Chandler, Gallo, Ray Felton that were traded for Melo? Hmm, I may be mistaken but they didn't exactly turn out to be franchise or even star guys now did they? Knicks did make the playoffs for the first time in a decade after acquiring Melo though.

There's always differing perspectives when discussing things like this. Doesn't make one way better or more right than the other. There's been far more busts as high draft picks than stars, because it's an inexact science.

7 out of 9 of our posters so far dont want Derozan for 25 million/year.

Hmm........ Guess we're all delusional? :nerd:

Not saying I necessarily want Derozan, but I'm not sure people understand the landscape of the NBA, especially when people keep harping on the $25 million. $25 million isn't what you think it is with the rising cap. That's probably low-end second option, high end 3rd option money in the next few years.

What's with this PG nonsense anyway? I'm positive Indiana isn't looking to move him. Why?

Ohhhhhh, the Knicks made the playoffs. That's the goal.

I guess Melo/Amare didn't need Gallo/Felton/Chandler and multiple draft picks eh?

And CP3 already had another star with him........but our 4 guys have ZERO chance of ever being close to Blake Griffin?

From Woj:

Los Angeles Lakers: New head coach Luke Walton is starting to construct his coaching staff, and the most prominent on his short list of candidates is Brian Shaw, league sources said.

Shaw was a longtime assistant under Phil Jackson, and most recently the head coach of the Denver Nuggets. Lakers executive vice president Jim Buss resisted Shaw as a head-coaching candidate before the hiring of Byron Scott, and many in the league doubt his enthusiasm over having another Jackson loyalist re-joining the coaching staff.
