We have a stuck-in-the-past organizational culture

Byron, AC, coop, worthy....we need fresh voices

Everyone needs to move on

This. All of this.

This tired old wrinkly organization needs to kill the term "laker way". There is no laker way. All there is a bunch of old *** hats giving clown takes and making the lakers organization look horrible.

Thank god they lost, but I'm tired of this goddamn organization from top to bottom. The broadcasters, analysts, coaching staff, training staff.

Clowns. All of em.
This is what I don't get. Not singling you out, just in general.

Fans want the team to lose and I mean lose bad for a top pick.

But then they turn around and complain that the team can't lure major free agents and/or they aren't winning games. You can't have it both ways.

This honestly is all part of the process. The biggest thing this franchise has to do is hire a good head coach. That's a big task to do of course, but once that happens everything will settle. But then once again if you had a good head coach you wouldn't get top picks. Can't have it both ways.

Fans want them to lose, yes. But if they're gong to win, win with the GODDAMN kids. Not celo Lou and bass. I wouldn't give a damn if the kids won, but these old heads that don't mean much to the future? Worthless empty calorie win.

I just don't get it. The team has no direction. It's not just the fact that everything revolves around the "laker way" but it's the constant living in the past and trying to recreate it.

I mean look at the latest rumor about Phil. Keeping Byron one more year to let Phil take over in 17 :x

I agree with you though the coach needs to be chosen and we need to set a culture.

We need UConn to get bounced in round 2 to have Kevin Ollie more likely to take the Lakers Head Coaching position more serious this summer.

Exactly. Winning now sucks, but winning with DLo, Clarkson, Randle, Nance, hey *shrugs*

But ******* Lou, Huertas, Bass and Kelly?????? What in the actual **** is the point of that?

That's what we're frustrated with. Losing is great, for now, but lose "SMART".

The problem is that this team has a toxic aura right now.

It starts from the top with Jeanie airing out dirty laundry for no reason. And constantly opening her mouth about Laker's way, timelines, etc. You can hate Jim Buss all you want, but at least he learned one thing from his father.... You keep your mouth shut if things are in turmoil. Because that only exacerbates the situation.

To former Lakers greats offering up their hot takes, but sparing Byron's feelings. So it makes it sound like it's the players fault, and none of it falls on Byron.

Then it goes to Byron. Who has created a culture of fear, and a culture of doubt.

It's the team is not ready to play, or they were soft, they don't want it bad enough. I won't allow so and so to close (because it's too close and because it's too much of a blowout), I don't like his attitude because it's not angry, question players hustle, he's not aggressive enough, takes him out because he's too aggressive. Everything he does is to tear down the guys. There's very little carrots, a whole lot of sticks. And when he throws a carrot, he makes sure to add a nice thrashing with the stick after you finish eating that carrot.

And how often is it that Byron says, look our gameplan didn't work. That's my fault. You can't keep trotting out I came up with this excellent game plan, and they failed to execute every night. At a certain point, you have to have some doubt yourself "Maybe it's not them, maybe it's me."

I don't want to hear about this generation is soft. It's the same for every generation. You keep criticizing a guy over and over again, MOST develop a sense of doubt, uncertainty, and it wanes their confidence.

None of this is a place for a rookie to grow and develop. Can you be disappointed with how they played, and say things to light a fire under their ***? Absolutely. BUT you do it to them, not to a reporter night in, and night out. And start cutting away with any possible relationship you have with your players.

There's only so much a player can grow in that environment. Even the best of players would find it hard to figure out what they should be doing in this current situation.

When every time you make a mistake, every time you have a poor start...... The hook is coming, and you won't get much of a chance to turn it around.

What do the guys learn from getting low 20s minutes because they are playing poorly? If I start off bad, I'm not going to get to play as much.

Yeah that makes sense.... But it doesn't solve the problem at all... "How do I play through being bad, and figure it out?" He's not giving them that opportunity.

So what we see from Russell, Clarkson & Randle is severely stunted by our coach, who has no clue, and never has had a clue about how to handle playing young players. It's why he's been forced out everywhere he's gone, no matter how good the team has been.

Byron doesn't allow for these guys to hit the learning curve. Especially with a team this bad, you play, and keep playing no matter how badly it is going. As long as you're trying to play within a game, and not being Will Smith in that basketball episode of Fresh Prince, it's fine to fail. But I'm going to give you every opportunity to find a way to success, so you know how to do it tomorrow.

So is it safe to say our core problem is Byron?

I would say it's a few things....

Are Clarkson, Russell & Randle playing as well as we want them too? Absolutely not.

Randle especially.

And some of that has to fall on your shoulders. Because you have a job to do, and if you don't do it, some of that is on you.

But Byron really does not allow for them to make that progress. And I can't begin to understand why. He's much more likely to keep his job if we were 14-55, than if we were 18-51, but the young guys are vastly improving, and balling out, but there's just not enough other talent around.

To answer your question, there are a bunch of reasons (in no order):

Off the court:
-Infighting between Jeanie & Jim. Which Jim never talks to the media, so it only goes one way, and he gets all the **** for it because we get Jeanie's perspective. It's really needless on Jeanie's part
-Showtime Lakers keep opening their mouth. And have created a double standard for Byron. Mike D'Antoni = Mike's fault.. Byron Scott = player's fault.

On the court:
-Byron
-Lakers just don't have the right talent on the team around Russell, Clarkson & Randle... When you're throwing out MWP & Hibbert. Who granted have been wonderful mentors. But when you throw them out on the court, you are essentially going 3 on 5 on offense. And neither plays defense at a high level anymore to justify starting. I think Hibbert could be a great piece off the bench for a contender for 4-5minute bursts. But nothing other than that.
-Kobe has been the only one who has suggested he pulls back a bit. And even he doesn't even follow that all the time. Nobody else has said, hey maybe you should pull back a bit.
-Young guys are not playing fully up to expectations. And in some cases that's actually good because they do play well, and it's not up to their potential. But obviously there is room to grow.

Creates one big cauldron of ****

Think this might be getting blown out of proportion slightly. Not that everything's peachy but still. No one gives a damn about talking heads on a postgame show, or magic johnson tweets, ups and downs are expected with young players, Byron can get booted in a hot second, Kobe is gone () and so on. Jeannie is a wreck tho I'll give you that but her emotional swings aren't gonna keep people away that want to be here. After this summer we'll have a better idea where this team stands and I think it will be largely positive.

Guys I want back:

Starting: Russell, Clarkson, Randle
Backup: Nance
3rd String: Huertas, A. Brown (DLeague), Black

Because you kind of have to: Nick Young

I take Nick over Lou. For a few reasons.
1. Byron has actively gone out of his way to **** with him. Even worse than he has Russell... Kobe's out, Brown is hurt.... And he glues Nick to the bench for MWP & Ryan Kelly. Which is a detriment to the team, especially with MWP starting and making it 3 on 5 with Hibbert.
2. Lou has more trade value.
3. Both are chuckers, and hog the ball.. But Nick is if I get it, I'm shooting... Lou is I'm bringing the ball up the court, holding on to it, and shooting.

But I wouldn't be opposed to stretching Swaggy's deal (if FA dictates it with a huge haul), and packaging Lou up and seeing what you can get, if it's worth it

Right. Players like Dirk, Stephen, boogie etc have gushed about our young core so I think they should be able to attract some talent around them. Even at our worst we've been able to snag guys like huertas lou bass and Ed davis who would be solid if utilized properly or acquire name guys like hibbert and Lin. In addition to a nice track record in the draft that can't be ignored.

There's just no pretty way to tank. This is basketball reasons in the flesh. There's no way to look great and be the second worst team in the league. All you can ask for is glimmers of hope. Players at large are not ignorant to the tanking process, they know what time it is. And when they see how things look going forward I think they'll get on board.

Buddy Hield and Denzel Valentine would help us right away but they'll go from 5-20

2 guys "that may be franchise changers" draft is a clearer statement.

I need that Nick Young shooting jacket.

But the reason I need it has to be that he is no longer a Laker and has no use for it, so then I have it.
