The NBA has changed dramatically since 96, the Lakers haven't they still stuck on the allure of living in LA dudes dont care bout that
Its not about living in LA.  It is about giving players the most money they can get and playing for a good team.  In a couple of years when this core has finally started to develop together people will come to LA for a Max contract and winning.

Kobe proved to me that you can win as a selfish me first ball chucking *******. I'm not saying it's the right way but its a way.

Please tell them the last time we have had a damn good young core and cap space?

I'm willing to bet it was 1996.

Who says we have a good core now? The have won less than 20 games and the best out of that bunch is a pariah now. The cap space is there, we'll see what they're able to do with it these next two summers.

And if they whiff on getting a star in FA best believe the core will be broken up to acquire one.

3 of the 4 players in that core were Rookies this year and the other one was a second year player.  If you thought they were going to be NBA contenders this year then you were god damn blind.

But we should just trade Russell away for nothing because of this since the Lakers will never be good because of a mistake.

Not to mention we are hopefully going to get another good piece this year.

You're all over the place. You said they were a good core, the evidence this year is to the contrary. I expected them to suck cause I believed they weren't that good in the first place. Could they develop into something better, absolutely, don't think they'll get the chance to though, especially with this latest setback.

This. Back then it wasn't bout crafting super teams so I see it as they built around Kobe instead of tryna land a "superstar"

This core has potential but I wouldn't say it's good. JuJu seems the most proven and even he is inconsistent

We lucked up getting Shaq in his prime in 96 at age 24, like I said NBA has changed u will never see a Start player being a FA so young in his carer again...

Yes, a building block for the future as in a god damn core.  Just because they are bad today =/= to them being bad in 3 years.  It takes time to adjust to the NBA.

Reminder that the young thunder and Warriors both won 23 games before they made there move.

I expect we win 25-28 games next year with our top 3 pick and then make a run at the playoffs in 2 years.

I'm sleep tho.

You're assuming they'll be together in 3 years or next year for that matter. I'm not projecting what they are right now is a collection of players that have proved they can at least play in the league, that's it.

No that is not how it works.  If you are a 19 or 20 year old in the NBA, you come in completely ready to play and your team wins 50 games in the first year.  There is no incremental improvement and it all happens at once.

We need to trade De'Angelo Russell now when we can get top dollar for him.

We they do have this contract thing that they are obligated under.  If they get traded they sure as hell are not getting traded for a big bag of nothing.

Yikes.

Actually they likely wouldn't get a great return at all unless a team is just desperate to move a disgruntled star or are just blowing their team up and need cheap talent, which is the point. They aren't a good core right now. They have some promise we've seen flashes, but other than that...

Because they are all basically Rookies.......I guess no rookie has ever gotten better.  The only person who can leave next year is Clarkson.  Everyone else is under contract.

God knows we are getting absolutely 0 draft picks over the next 3 years either so there is no possible way that we could ever add even more young players.

What are you taking about man. Who ever said they couldn't get better? You said they are a good core now. They are not.

In other news, Julius fined 15k for letting his nuts hang after the game winner.

What the hell are you talking about?  I said they are a good core to build a future:

You said they probably wont be together in 3 years.  I said they are required by contract.

So again, as this core improves and we still have cap space, good players will come here.
