on the topic of worst thing to ever happen to our franchise. I have 2 things tied at the top. Magic getting HIV and the cp3 trade getting vetoed :frown:

I would say Magic first.
CP3 2nd
Kobe's Achilles third. I honestly think that team may have had a shot if Kobe doesn't die. Also think it sent the franchise into its tail spin toward the bottom because despite playing some of the best ball of his career in 2013, his long term health became an issue and that's when you get the cold shoulder from FAs.

As far as Russell Goes, i do like that he was more aggressive looking for his shot last game, but he really does have to try and attack the basket more often. He isn't super athletic but he is still quick, has a good handle and has size at his advantage most of the time. But he seems to already grasp playing the PG role to a T

I'm not going to continue to have an argument over how having a Vocal player who takes the game almost too serious & is one of the best players ever is somehow detrimental to two young guards. At this point Kobe isn't taking 30 shots a game and outside of the contested 3's all his attempts have been within the flow of the offense, homie is just not making the shots.

At least we recovered from Magic getting HIV. THe CP3 veto drastically changed our future and the landscape of the NBA.

Kobe doesn't get hurt in 2013, we make the playoffs & probably still lose to the spurs, but i do think we would have been competitive in the series. Kobe coming off a damn near career year, While being much more willing to pass could have really lured more FA's

I really don't think Kobes 2013 season is appreciated ..I really think that's one of his top 3-4 period.

He was doing it all 40+ one night, 15 assists another, clutch shot after clutch shot :x

Really think of that injury doesn't happen you would still be seeing the same 25 5 and 5 Kobes as usual

I need a hit of the OG optimism

Why not be optimistic? Lakers is my hobby, its my release from all the other stresses in the world. Sure it can be stressful being a fan of this team, but if i'm not enjoying my hobby or my release from every day work, then what is the point.

Check the tapes, even in the darkest of times, I could never cheer against this team, for the tank, even though I knew it would better us, call it lack of foresight or being selfish, but this is what I consider fun, watching my Lakers win.

So even now, when we suck and have a pretty incompetent coach, I still watch the games to see my team win, I get to watch IMO the greatest player of my time try to figure out how to beat old age, I get to see a player like JC and Randle slowly develop, I get to hope to see Russell fulfill the prophecy of being one of the better PG prospects in recent history. Plus I get to hope that our younger players like Brown, Nance, and Black get to see some play as well as seeing MWP and LOU/Swaggy try to have fun.

My point is when your hobby is becoming more stressful than it is fun, I think you need to take a step back, it happened to me last year when I was pulling out my hair watching these idiots give up leads and what not. Then I realized if I lose this as an avenue to relax and have fun then i'm ******.

So keep things in perspective, things will change.

Go Lakers!

You're spot on and way off, simultaneously.

Yes, opinions and perceptions are concepts, which can be misunderstood.

Someone could think the sky is red because they are color blind.

Ask more questions. Or just write them off "I'm going over here now."

Spot on and way off, simultaneously.

And the color of the sky is based on an already existing set of universal data: colors.

What is good for a franchise is not a universal set of data. That's... 'subjective', which is neither right or wrong.

Someone having the opinion that the color of the sky is 'ladder' is wrong, because we have a set of data that is universally agreed upon, and 'ladder' is not a color.

Someone having the opinion about what is good/bad for their franchise is impossible to be correct/incorrect.

Different.

That's the only possibility with subjective matters.

Opinions are neither right or wrong with subjective discussions; they are simply different.
Right, but they'd be wrong. If you're color blind, you have a malfunction. Your perception is wrong. Then everyone else is right. Truth is a constant. It's not independent of the individual. Because you feel kobe was bad for our team, not a franchise player, not a winner, whatever, doesn't make it right as all of those things have already been proven to be true. He won. He was made a franchise player. He had his fingerprints over 5 of our rings.
- "He won."

That's weird, because I remember the Lakers winning championships. Maybe it was just Kobe vs. the Pacers/Sixers/Nets/Magic/Celtics, and he won, by himself.

I'll have to check the vids. Maybe I'm misremembering.

- "He was made a franchise player."

Yes, and this gets into exactly what my original point was hinged on.

- "He had his fingerprints over 5 of our rings."

Absolutely. Undeniable.
it's not impossible to be correct in having an opinion if someone is good or bad for a franchise. Do you think Jeter was bad for the Yankees? Do you think Curry is a bad look for the Warriors? Who would say otherwise?
Nah, but I would... scratch that, I HAVE discussed with those that think otherwise.
But still, give me an alternative. How would you replace him and have the same production, or better over the same time span.
Limitless. The possibilities are literally infinite, with no guarantee that any of then would be more/less successful.

We both know that.

2012-13 was an awesome year. Probably behind 2002-03 and 2005-06 as my favorite Kobe seasons.

100% right.

dudes 2013 season was soooo ill. dude was amazing that year, while averaging like 47 minutes a game.

so many ill moments. but my favorite was the dunk on cp3. dunk on the hawks. the whole raptors game. dude was ablsolutely amazing that season. Team was somewhat competitive too with all of our struggles and injuries. Still made the playoffs despite everything. Without that achilles, I doubt kobe would've regressed nearly as much. I think he'd still be really good. somewhat slower, but no real debilitation.

Was that the Dwight year? With Kobe playing out of his mind then popping his Achilles.....Nash injured.....swept out of playoffs.....what did you like about that year? Morris and Goudelock?

Edit: oh I see, from a Kobe standpoint it was fun to watch until the injury

Kobe... :wow:

I missed most of that season because I was deployed, but I would read the box scores and be amazed.

2013 has to go down as on of his greatest seasons. Dude was being regular Kobe at first then turned into a human torch the second half of the season to will the Lakers towards the playoffs. So. Many. Incredible. Moments.
Adding to the great moments already mentioned are the 25 point comeback against the Hornets, dunk on Josh Smith, breaking Klays ankles, then Later in that same game shooting 2 highly contested 3s before he finally tore his Achilles. The AMNESTY THAT game against Cuban, turning into Kobe Johnson one game, then dropping 40 the next, then doing both at the same time.

That's debatable. Lakers were on fire to close out the season (28-12) and Kobe was the one leading the charge. Chemistry seemed to be alright, players accepted their roles, Dantoni modified his style, Parker was playing injured, and Ginobili just came back from injury playing the first round on a minutes restriction. We had a very good shot. We would have faced a younger Warriors team the next round who had already over achieved and had rookie Green and Barnes, didnt have Iggy yet, and people were just starting to realize how goo Curry was. A health 2013 Lakers could've taken that too.
We would've lost against OKC in the WCF though.
A WCF exit might've changed Dwight 's FA decision.
