The thing with Russell is he isn't even looking for his shot other than that elbow jumpshot.

You telling me he can't draw some contact get to the line, get some cheap points.

When he came out of college the pros on him were, his size (he doesn't use it at all not to back in smaller point guards or even bully them) his vision (we've barely seen any of it) and his shooting (which has been pretty bad)

So if all this isn't going for you and you still look like you too cool for school out there, you gonna get called out on it and sit down on the bench.

#2 pick that needs every second on the court to learn/grow.

Huertas/Lou suck even worse, but old and not part of our future.

I don't care if DLo plays with his shoes untied, get him out there. That's how you learn.

Just saying if he kept last night's lineup in the 4th because it's clicking.. You probably should swap them all out here because they're horrid out there.

It isn't pretty, the guy needs to play with way more of an edge and frankly exert more energy. There's something about DLO that gives you hope, like he's in control most of the time, and sometimes his sweet midrange jumpers. But he need to show some damn aggressiveness. You can't keep putting it on byrons terrible coaching or Kobe (who isn't playing) or Williams taking his shots. He's a passive dude. Right now, he doesn't look like a NBA starter. I know he's 19 and deserves time. But man your playing on a not good squad. Take some chances. Show some passion.

Byron still sticking with Bass at the 5 vs. Len.....Len is damn 7ft tall !!! Bass is 6'7" on a good day. :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x :x

DLOs struggles are 60% him 30% Byron 10% age and experience

His slow flow too cool approach ain't cuttin it

You come off a screen and are greeted by a slow 7 footer ATTACK THAT MO FO

Push the ball
Probe the paint
Put your stamp on the game
Make an impact
Have some pride all these other lottery picks are making you look garbage

Agree 100%. Nobody wants to talk bad about the kid. But man show some damn passion. Now at the end of the game he wants to score a few buckets. But the whole game you not doing ish.

Another month of this lackadaisical attitude I'm all for bringing him off the bench and seeing if that lights a fire under him.

My question... Does Huertas give us any more chance of winning over Clarkson, Russell, or Lou?

Even a passive Russell, an out of control and cold Clarkson and a **** show Lou Williams?

The answer is clearly no. He has a good passing ability, but he's the worst defender on the team by a mile, and this team has Lou Williams and Kobe on it.

So why not just keep either Russell or Clarkson on the floor at all times? Give them both the opportunity to play with 1st units, 2nd units and together.

And for the love of Pete, please start playing Tarik Black.. Both Russell & Clarkson are better off the P&R and Tarik happens to be good at that.

My only hope is its a conditioning thing, he always looks exhausted, maybe he needs to hit the gym eat better and he can become a bit quicker, but he hasn't done anything really impressive to me this first month or so

Amen
JC should get 38-40 minutes and Russell 36-40
These kids aren't tired let them play

But hey, Byron is playing to win

He aint gonna move like MVP rose or Westbrook or even Rookie CP3..

He's too damn slow on his feet. It's that difficult for him to attack. He needs to watch tapes of Harden and work on the same type of craft IMO

He does appear too laid back tho.

Honestly I don't give a damn about the wins or losses. I just want guys out there to play hard and with effort not like some entitled diva that is going ti do what he wants because he knows that there aren't better alternatives. Can't be rewarding bad habits this early now is the time to mold him into being a professional.

These lineups killed me man, long ******* stretches of huertas? Forreals?

There was a play by d'lo when he showed his speed getting to the paint that we rarely see, nice to see

Yup he has these bursts of speed that he rarely uses but man he turned Hit that turbo

Honestly most if not all starting PG's can make that play

I'm still hopeful that he'll turn it up though... I feel like he needs to get embarrassed or in a fight to light a ******* fire under his ***.

He's just way too cool for me... No emotion

Byrons coaching :nthat:
We get it
On everything, I was going to do exactly the same.

He is a calm guy.. That's who he is.. That's how he plays.. That's how he played in Ohio State.

He doesn't get angry. He doesn't panic when things don't go his way. He doesn't force when things aren't falling his way.

He just keeps with his game, and tries to piece it together until he can figure it out.

But just because he isn't giving the Mamba Snarl or screaming after a bucket, doesn't mean he has no passion, or is a diva. Or is not engaged. Some people don't need to act a certain way.

So when you add that he's a rookie.. When you add that he's 19.. When you add that he's still struggling to adjust to certain things.. 3 things that were bound to happen, even if he was balling out, he'd still have these problems..

But then throw on top that the roster is a mishmash of things that don't fit together and not the best fit with him, and a coach who is like the Sandman at the Apollo ready to give him the hook at any moment..

That's when you get what you have.

All the while, guys like Emmanuel Mudiay, Kristaps Porzingis & Justise Winslow are getting hype for their play, but in no way have they really been any better than he is. And Jahlil Okafor is out here putting up 19 & 7. But is so bad on defense, it ends up being a pointless 19 & 7. Yes that can happen. Wherever that stat that I think @PMatic posted, is a perfect example of that. Sixers went from 12th in Defensive Efficiency Last Year to 29th This Year. Robert Covington being out makes some difference, but not that much. The only guy who really has been head and shoulders above is Karl Anthony Towns and that was a forgone conclusion.

So we can say Russell looks this and that, and he hasn't been great that's fair to say. But he's still performing in line with other rookies around him. And that's a good thing. With all this stuff that isn't going his way, some on him, others not on him. That means when it starts to click for him, he'll be fine.

There's some positives for him, and some things that could be built upon going forward.
1. His defense is better than what was expected. Not elite, not great, not very good. But average. That's good enough for now. Some of that can be learned, and catching passing lanes and correct way to rotate on defense, and how to play the screen. But of course, he has those moments of looking bad, and lost. Which is also a symptom of everyone not named Roy Hibbert & surprisingly (although not to me) Nick Young on this team.
2. He's very good on P&R as a ball handler. There's been a few times he'll come off a pick and roll and catch Clarkson weak side cross court on a perfect pass for 3.
3. He's missing his shots short. But he's not missing them wildly. It's either one of 2 things, he's not used to the range and can't hit it that far, or doesn't have the legs for it. If it's the first that comes with taking that shot. Still shooting 30% from 3, and that's even when looking bad. So that's encouraging. If it's the legs, then hitting the weights more consistently will help.

Mainly if his feet are set, he gets a good look and a good take from 3.

4. He has good passing instincts. Whether in transition or on P&R. He also does not turn the ball over a lot.

5. He can get in the lane, I think he's tentative a bit on it. Just like Julius is now. Both of them are not sure what they want to do when they get into the lane. Julius tries to go bull in china shop, and now that that hasn't worked he's settling more often. Russell likes to have an option to dump it when he's in the paint, so if he doesn't see it there, he won't take it in. Especially through the middle of the paint. Going down the side of the paint he's more comfortable because it's easier to dribble out for him.

I wonder why this is the case? I can see if maybe you're having an off night but to come out not ready to play is disconcerting, especially for a young guy.

@MarkG_Medina 26m26 minutes ago
Byron again calling for his players to "man up."

@BaxterHolmes
Byron Scott: “Our guys gave an effort, but I thought their effort was 10 times better."

How do you fix that?

"It’s all about manning up."

Someone a week or two ago has been citing evidence where Byron has been saying this for team after team.. This is the same guy that has had 2 Playoff teams hold a coup against him.
