I mean all things considered, he had just as good a game as Emmanuel Mudiay.

EM: 31min 12pts 3-13 2reb 10ast 1blk 1stl 4pf 6TOs
DR: 20min 7pts 3-11 2reb 6ast 0blk 0stl 4pf 1TOs.

The disparity is mostly from not having any minutes in the 4th. If you extrapolate, which is fine because he wasn't very good either way. He ends up going 4-14 9/3/8 with 2 TOs.

So even with his lack of aggressiveness, and lack of touching the ball, and about 25% less time on the floor than Emmanuel Mudiay, he's still performing in line with him in efficiency standards.
Mike Conley type progression from DLo wouldn't be a bad look. :nerd:
Thank you. Exactly. And I can totally see that from him. And that's not a bad thing at all. Conley ain't Nash, but Fisher ain't Nash, either. Chalmers ain't Nash. Barea ain't Nash... yet they are all championship PGs, while Nash isn't.

This isn't a debate about why Nash never hoisted the trophy.

It's just a point that Dlo absolutely does look like he can be a serviceable PG, and for almost every single championship team, 'serviceable' is juuuuust fine.

Randle, tho... :smokin :smokin He looks like he's going to be more than serviceable 5 years from now. Hell, maybe next year.

Mudiay is playing with Confidence. He's not scared to make a Mistake. He messes up, but he doesnt stop attackin. He's embracing his Role in runnin that offense, u can tell he wants to be that PG they need him to be.. DLO, i see NONE of that in him. Mudiay is mentally ready, DLO is jus not there yet. Its like he dont mind takin that backseat for the Moment. Its not a Bad thing, but i would like to see him jus go for what he Know a lil bit. Regardless, we will be a Lottery team. :frown:

Don't mind taking the backseat?

He's the PG, meaning he's responsible for feeding an aged Kobe who is trying to still dominate, and another (basically) star rookie.

Mudiay has neither of those. Mudiay's not feeding an Iverson who thinks he can still get it, a Jordan who is bricking left and right, a TMac ready to fire at a 37% success rate.

And he had no other star rookie to worry about. He IS the star rookie. Just him.

Give him Kobe, Randle, and Byron and I guarantee his 'takeover' mentality you're complimenting him on... fades.

And Confidence leads him to playing just as bad, if not worse. So spare me.

Mudiay is embracing his role as the guy running the offense... Okay that's fine.

Is that the role Russell has been given? Ask yourself in the first 4 games, if Russell has been the guy Byron has running the offense, or gameplan to run the offense.

He hasn't been good. That's something we can all agree on, but there's really not much leeway from what he's doing to what he is allowed to do. And that's not particularly his fault, as it is of the guy calling the offense.

none of that addresses his inability to attack the basket and his lack of speed, his slow flow is painful to watch

In relative terms, he's slow. But I think he's an average speed guy. Because he can still get out in transition, and can still handle transition. There's plenty of PGs who are slow, and can't do that either. At least shows he can run, and can handle playing at a quicker pace.

But anyway, his shot is not falling at all outside the arc. How have guys been playing him? They've been giving him space, they've been running under screens.

So if I give him a couple feet, it'd be tough for even a guy with good speed to get to the hoop because I have time to react. If he's not making shots, no reason to play up on him. That extra step or two closer, is really the difference between getting past a guy and having your drive stopped.

You can look at any of the speed PGs in the league, the defender will try to play off a bit, to cut him off, and that will decrease how often / easily they get to the hoop. When that speed guy gets his shot to go from deep, the defender then plays on him.

Shot falls, guys will come up more, then on P&R he can turn the corner.

This is a great post.

Rondo is the worst shooter in the history of mankind and he gets to the basket still even at his age

Same with young Jason Kidd, Payton and Tony Parker, Rod Strickland and many others

I just want to see Russell attack the basket one time at least that will put some on my worries at ease

He's also lightning quick, so even in when they go over the screens its easy for him to get around to the basket.

But go ahead, continue

Rondo was a whole hell of a lot quicker 8-9 years ago than he is now. Also his rookie season stats are not good either.

As for the other guys, go look at the stat lines for some of them. From their rookie year.

But now we're talking about a guy who has been in the league 9 years versus a guy who has played about 80minutes.

I think one has a bit more experience, and a bit more knowledge of what he can and can't do and what he can and can't give.

So if we're drafting someone at number two he should be lightning quick he should be a great passer he should have all of that if you just gonna lay back in the cut and dish out passes he might be a very good serviceable point guard but he's not number two pick worthy

Lol Noble

I just want to see this kid Dlo show a flash of his ability to get to the basket

Maybe because he's too skinny and frail and young and inexperienced he's afraid of the contact

Kidd GP Strickland Parker Rondo were all bad shooters early on and they relied on their ability to drive

Nvm.
I'm just gonna be quiet lol
The hell am I being contradictory about?

I never said Russell was perfect, but I've also said give it some time.

I know he's not fast, but with the NBA training and diet he'll improve. Same with giving him a better coach who can use him in a PNR offense.

And I said from the beginning Byron is an idiot. Said it from DAY 1.

So tell me, what am I being contradictory about?

D'Angelo Russell's amount of minutes in the NBA.... 97.2
Run Time for the movie Monty Python & The Holy Grail (which I watched for the 100th time before the game) 91

In the time it would take me to make pop corn, sit down, put the disc in, start the movie and watch it. That's how long D'Angelo Russell has been in the NBA..

I aint da one to go back and Forth but i dont see DLO gettin that Superstar tag in this league.. I think he will be a good player but not Great.

Meanwhile Byron runs 2 a day practices.

GAHDAMNIT.
Well explain?

Cause from the beginning I knew people would have hot takes about Russell, been here telling everybody calm down he'll be fine.

See below post from 3 weeks ago:
Steph of now wasn't the steph from his rookie season.

KD and Russ went like 3-29 there first year together. (May be off but it was bad)

Nobody comes into the league and is a world beater off the bat.

Give it some time, enjoy the ride, and the rook play an actually NBA season before calling him a bum.

Some of you man

Doesn't help that our coach is a moron and can't put him in the right spots, but that's another topic.

The only criticism I even said about Russell was that God awful hair he had for 2 games, and the fact that he was rumored to be dating someone from that evil family named the Kardashians,
and I gave a damn good reason why he should stay away:

see below:

Who cares who he is dating? You can safely assume if it weren't her it would be some other LA glam girl that would be more or less the same. He says the right things about getting better and he's still playing hard on the court, let him have his fun.
Kanye washed
Scott is in rehab
Lamar almost died
Harden looks funny right now
Tyga stay taking Ls.

And Bruce is now a woman named Caitlyn

If it was any other girl I wouldn't give a ****
Something about that family

I do agree though, he'll be fine just needs time. I've been saying that from the beginning.
And I've bashed Byron from day 1. Even told you I would when I said get ready for those hot takes.

so explain?
