Parsons was a unique /strange situation, hou was holding out for bosh and had maybe a better player in their backpocket with ariza. I can't see why gsw would let barnes walk

He won't be a RFA if they can't get an extension, and MAYBE he decides he wants a bigger role, even if it's not worth it.

As for the KD stuff. I think it's possible, just unlikely. If he were to leave, I still think this is where he goes.

If we could somehow keep most of the contents of this roster and add another star/justified max guy before KD. Then I think the odds shoot up.

It's not going to be easy prying Barnes from the Warriors, but there's a small shot. Maybe the Warriors don't want to tax themselves out the *** and want to keep hope alive they can lure Durant.

With waiving Jabari & his QO for next year, Lakers sit at 11 contracts and $57-59mil in cap space.

That's including Brandon Bass (who has a $3.135mil Player Option, no reason to think he accepts it when he could get double due to cap increase), Ryan Kelly ($2.155 QO, likely gets declined).
Huertas, Black, Clarkson QO that likely all get kept.

So we could end up with 9 contracts, $62.5 - 64.5mil in cap space.

My idea is to trade Nick Young into a slightly smaller contract in the offseason, let Black go (regardless if we strike out on FA. Don't want to eat 2017 cap for him, and we'd likely have to)... Re-sign Hibbert, and go after 2 max players.

I was joking. But Byron stinks. Literally stinks. Not literally. But figuratively I smell his stink through the tv.

You may be joking...but we know how LA media is. Knee jerk reaction to just about everything. If Luke does well while Kerr is gone...I'm sure we will start to hear his name around our team again....

I wonder how committed the front office is to Byron. I really hope they're more than willing to pull the plug on him after we're floating around 20 wins to end the season.

They'll just move him back to the broadcasting booth or worse the front office. He's not getting let go no matter how bad we are this season though.

Yall think they just hired Byron to coach Kobe? Once mamba retires, new coach for the youngsters and marquee FAs

I don't want to get ahead of myself, but if they sign Barnes and retain Roy, the makeup of the team will be eerily similar to another team. :nerd:

They don't.

They lost CP3, overreacted by buying Nash.
Threw money at Dwight, lost.
Threw money at Melo, lost.
Threw money at LMA, twice, lost. Twice.

They "didn't" tank enough, lucked into Randle.
Lotto magic got them DLo instead of Priz.

They refused to sell Pau, and got nothing for him.

They gave Nick Young a 4 year contract.

They hired Byron Scott.

This is not a plan. It's blind luck mixed with ineptitude.

Mitch is thankfully pretty good at scouting and landed Clarkson for free at least.

There's always been a contingency plan. They shoot for the moon and go for home runs but in the background they've adapted extremely well to the new cba.

Sure, they always have a backup plan, that's fine.

Melo says yes........ :smh:

But Hibbs/Bass/Lou isn't really "a plan". That's leftover scraps you've bought up. Hopin to win 5-10 more games and sell "we're buildin somethin".

We need/might get another steal down the line, like the Ariza trade, but odds are long for a while on landin a big fish to anchor any plan people might think we have.

Let's just hope they don't get desperate and do somethin harmful.

I'm saying, a guy like hibbert was in their pocket the whole time they were pursuing lma. The cba mandates building from within. You get two top prospects and some late round steals along with cap flexibility and those are your big fish

La, boston, philly, Minnesota. ..all teams at around year 3 of their rebuild with similar roster construction as of today. I would bet a team like philly might even be better off if they had taken randle/russ instead. I can't understand why the lakers don't get any credit
