You're right, they should've took the guy that was dismissed from two college programs and couldn't meet the requirements given to him in order to be a member of the team. And even though he maybe a bad influence on the other young guys on the team, hey, he could end up being Hassan Freaking Whiteside.

Meanwhile, all Sacre will be is a good teammate and a guy that pushes other guys at practice.

And the worst case scenario with Upshaw isn't just "a serviceable rim protector." It's a serviceable rim protector with issues. Serious issues. If you want a serviceable rim protector, there are plenty to choose from with much less baggage.

Small tidbit on the Lakers' summer:
SI.com: There was a lot of talk about the Lakers free agent meeting. It seemed like it went badly. What happened?

Lemarcus: I’m not going to get into details, but it was just a couple of meetings. The first meeting didn’t go as well as they said and then the second meeting went better. I’ll go on the record as saying Kobe was not an issue at all. He was a very positive part of the meeting. I’ve always had a very cordial relationship with Kobe. I see him all the time in Newport [Beach], and it was really messed up that [the media] put it on him when he was one of the best parts of the meeting. But like I said, the first one didn’t go as well, the second one went a little bit, but at the end of the day going back home was more valuable.

It still cracks me up the reports said Kobe told Aldridge he could be his new Pau.

No blame they're doing a great job

Obviously they were caught flat footed in that initial interview. I think they'll be better served with that experience going forward.

not getting caught flatfooted and being ready for this stuff is what the front office is for though

its not like they are new to meeting with big name free agents

You would think so but it's been at least 10 years since they successfully got one and they were old as dirt in Malone and Payton. It's inexcusable to not be prepared though.

There's no certainty to sell at the current moment. That's what happens in a rebuilding phase. That's also what happens when you lose as many games as you did last year. You can't have it both ways. You can't have a top pick and somehow attract a top free agent who has been losing his entire career and wants to win now.

It's really not that complicated.

But if all these accounts of them not focusing on basketball after an hour into the meeting are true, that's inexcusable. But what can you focus on? Hey we got a lot of young guys, they'll take some time to develop but when they do they'll be great.

Also this Upshaw outrage is wild to me. Sacre didn't beat him out for the spot. He lost it himself. Simple as that.

You're telling me you would give a job to a person who has multiple red flags, yet you give him a chance and he blows it again? So what that his fourth wake up call by now? Why would you reward poor behavior especially from him? I don't really get the issue.

Also on another note the Lakers are in a great position, except they need a legitimate coach. That's the only flaw in their rebuilding currently.

you can have a great meeting and at the end of the day he leaves because he likes san antonio better

but if the meeting "didnt go well" that's something wrong with how we are marketing our franchise to other players

I agree. They acknowledged it, which I think is a great thing. Buss said in that USA article they will get better. Better than being defensive or delusional about it. It was disappointing that their presentation was lacking in basketball talk. The core of their basketball talks would be around a guy who played 14 minutes, a guy who played 0 games, and a guy who had half a good season. Then cap space. Oh and Byron Scott concepts...... (I think Luke will coach this team in the near future. They'll refer to his success in GSW to quell the fanbase).

I just don't know what they could have sold Aldridge on anyway. There really is nothing for a guy who has gotten out of the first round one time and wants to win ASAP.

Anyway I'd rather them have Randle develop at the PF spot. They hold him highly.

This is nothing new and surprising about what Aldridge said about Kobe.

Kobe's just that type of dude on & off the court the media both locally & nationally look for things to put out in the media via internet blogs, article & magazines that they know will get clicks on website links to generate money and keep them employed where these type of articles are read by Laker haters, Laker fans, and the average & hardcore fans.

Back in 2004 after Kobe re signed and Shaq was traded to Miami. Ray Allen at the time was with the Supersonics and had a beef with Kobe after a pre season game where Kobe put a sick block on him. Ray went through the media saying "Kobe is the reason why the Lakers wouldn't attract free agents and basically nobody wanted to play with him".

Fast forward to when Dwight leaves the Lakers in free agency he claims Kobe is the main reason why he left because Kobe told him he wasn't done and had at least 2 years left in him. But a lot of people know Dwight really left the Lakers he couldn't handle the pressure here in LA of carrying the Lakers brand and being expected to win rings here with the Lakers.

^lmao....my man kob is old enough to be his dad.

Lets get thru 1 more meaningless ballgame tom at honda...get thru another weekend of b.scotts camp...and lets get to tues at relatively full strength. No lie..excited. Dont care what anyones projections say....the future starts tues.

kobe has that im going to murder this kid and he doesnt even know it yet look in his eyes

Get Ryan Kelly in second round
Get Jordan Clarkson in second round
Pick D'lo while the whole world thought it'd be Okafor
Get Randle at 7
Set up for Kobe to leave and slots for 2 max players

*idiots*
Chose Mike D'Antoni over Phill Jackson.
Traded Lamar Odom for a bag of peanuts
Signed kobe to that ASTROCIOUS thing of a contract.
Have hired three coaches that don't fit our team, who will they pick next? Management sucks at picking the right coach.

to add on: they hired coaches who didn't know how to utilize Pau Gasol and our front office treated him horribly.

Odom demanded a trade ASAP after the veto. Felt offended.
Biggest mistake for me in recent memory is not keeping Sessions and signing Steve "GetMoney" Nash. Dude could not defend any guard he was assigned to. Healthy or not. Anyways, Dwight trade still gets done, we have a healthy point guard, Lakers never get a putrid record first half of the season and Kobe doesn't have to go ballistic and thus he never gets injured. We probably would've been a better team record wise anyways.
Imagination.

I was going to add Nash too was just too lazy to list it. There's a lot of things they do wrong, only one who earns my respect is mitch solely due to what he has done in the past. Jim Buss and Jeanie can go kick rocks.
