I always wondered how people can carry knives and not trip about getting caught with it. My cousin is engaged to a guy from Missouri and he has a hug knife on him all the time like it's no big deal. He normally just uses it for a bottle opener though.

Get caught for what? While there's various laws restricting certain opening mechanisms, it's pretty much legal to carry a knife in most of the country.

I didn't know that. So say you are carrying a knife and someone on the streets comes at you and you pull it out, can you be the one in trouble since you are using it as a weapon or do you just claim self defense or something? I actually want to carry a knife cause it gets a little sketch in SF sometimes but I don't want to catch an extra charge just cause I think someone is trying to jack me and I take a stab at them.

CA has certain laws regarding carrying a knife. I was reading about carrying a blade the other day but I can't remember completely. I believe it either has to be a folding knife without any assisted opening mechanism (like a switchblade/spring loaded) or you can carry a fixed blade in a sheath visibly on the outside of your clothing. I always have a pocket knife in my car but that's mostly for utility rather than self-defense. Also there's certain limits such as the length of the blade depending where you go (like school/court house etc), but you obviously don't want to have any weapons on you when you go to those type of places lol.

Think I've heard blade has to be smaller than half your palm maybe I'm wrong

the law is < 3 inches

measuring by palm would be different sizes depending on person...

I think the length of the blade matters in some states.
every state has different laws but none really enforced.
Ny for example...only us citizens are supposed 2 have knives.
But look at all the cooks.

I carry a lil buck knife on me tho

Lucky for you, I live in SF and dated a SF public defender for 7 years and know the laws fairly well.

In SF, there's no limit on blade size. As long as the knife is visible on your person, you're cool. You can legally carry a ninja sword on your back in SF.

Basically if the knife opens by it's own power i.e switch blade or butterfly style momentum based mechanisms - it's illegal. Folding knives and everything else is cool.

And no, using it in self defense in the city is not illegal.

Wallet, phone and this key holder I bought in Japan, I like the key holder cause it keeps your keys from making noise like a janitor.

Sometimes I'll carry a knife but usually not. Never understood the need for multi tools, some of those joints are real pricey too.

Keys
Walker
cell phone
Fruit bar
Fancy lighter
Blackberry for music
Brock Sampson knife

Watch this turn into a "post your gun thread"

Is that a bad thing? I wish I could carry a gun on me.

Butterfly and switch are illegal, but if it's Assisted Switch it's ok because technically your power is what's opening it.

depends on the county in California. Fixed blade knives are ok, but if your shirt covers even the handle, it's considered concealed and that makes it illegal.

If it's concealed like a pocket knife then you have to worry about the length and stuff like that.

One of my friends started watching Sons of Anarchy and now carries a fixed blade on him  I tried explaining to him that you shouldn't be carrying that unless you're about that life but he called me a hater.

Wallet
Phone
Keys
Some Money
A stainless steel pen in case I have to stab a lunatic.

Why are dudes carrying so much crap nowadays?

Like, do you need all these accessories?

Be functional. Carry your wallet, your phone, your keys, and a single paper towel sheet if you don't got a handkerchief.

Sons are carrying knives and paracord and south american bracelts and tamagochi's and a flint and some matches and blah blah...like wtf you going to war?
