I'm not disagreeing necessarily, definitely don't think having Scott without Kevin is good....But if every time he's brought up it's the same answer, I'm inclined to believe that's truly how he feels. Scott in OKC was the scapegoat. Management had to make a move, so he was out. Don't see that as indicative of the relationship Kevin had with him. Other than that I 100% see what you're saying

I just don't see what else he's going to say about him when asked.  He's wanted to make it clear that he wasn't the one who forced Brooks out.  If he does anything other than speak glowingly about Brooks, it would appear to the headline hungry sports media as though he had some hand in Brooks' ouster.  It's assumed by the press that nothing happens in OKC without KD's approval.

If they lose in the playoffs this year, as expected, I would expect him to express praise for Billy Donovan as well.

I have yet to come across anything that's led me to believe that KD would follow Brooks anywhere.  The argument, to me, would be that the familiarity factor could ease a potential fear of the unknown and make it easier for him to envision what it would be like to play for the Wizards with Brooks at the helm - but if you're going to leave at ALL that requires a certain mindset.  He has to be of the mind that a change is needed, and to prefer the unknown offered by another franchise over the familiar and expected in OKC.

To me, the best pitch you can make in that circumstance is winning.  Other coaching candidates have legitimate championship experience, either on a coaching staff or as a player.  They can say, "this isn't a mystery to us.  We've done it.  We know what it takes.  We know we can get there together with you as a leader of this team."

The Wizards can't make that pitch with Brooks.

I should say, to Brooks credit, that I do believe he'll do a better job than Randy Wittman.  He'd certainly be one of the better coaches this franchise has endured in recent memory.  With Brooks at the helm, I would expect this team and its existing starting five to get back to the second round.  I just have a hard time envisioning anything more than that, unless Beal takes that big leap everyone keeps hoping for.

I just feel there are better candidates out there, and I find it intensely frustrating that Wittman is so singularly focused on Brooks.  There's been no talk of interviews with other candidates.  Thibs is already looking like a done deal in Minnesota.  We're sitting here waiting on Scott Brooks and appear to be falling for all this nonsense - likely leaked by Brooks' camp - about the Lakers and the Rockets' interest to cause the Wizards to bid against themselves to sign him immediately.  Since when is he that hot a commodity?

Brooks is a coach I would settle for.  He's not a coach I would court EXCLUSIVELY, as the Wizards are doing.

Its tough for me because i agree with you Meth that Brooks > Whittman. And i personally do think it gives us a slightly better shot at KD. Only because KD calls Brooks and Brooks says "yes we can do it here" I think that gives us a better chance then say if we end up hiring some other coach.

But I wanted Thibs, sad that won't happen. The wiz need a guy who has a system especially one predicated on defense. We haven't had any discipline in what feels like forever. From the Gil days...to the Blatch/Mcgee days....to the Nene days. The one thing i love about wall and beal is they seem to at least have it in them to hold people accountable. Wall "appears" to be a good leader and i feel for him rotting away in mediocrity on our team.

What's annoying to me is that the Wizards aren't even doing due diligence in the hiring process. They've zeroed in on Brooks without considering other guys who may/may not be interested in the job. And let's be real...the ONLY reason why Brooks is being targeted with this much aggression is because of his connection to KD. I don't like this one bit. If Wall leaves in 2019 due to being unhappy with the state of the franchise, he'll have good reason to bolt and I won't question him.

Logged back in just to welcome Randy Wittman 2.0 to the District and long with him...the impending years of mediocrity.

Can't wait to see Brooks tussle with that whiteboard in the huddle and buying new spectacles to give off the thinly veiled illusion that he actually knows how to game plan for teams/players and draw up plays.

Randy Watson > Randy Wittman

Whitman's Chocoloates had more variety than Wittman's offense.

Weekend at Ernie's...Never thought that when I used to ride the elevator up to the Lexus level with him back during my stint working with the Wizards that almost 10 years later...he would still be employed there. Sheeeeesh! :smh:

Five-years, $35M

Meh. I'd take anyone over Wittman, but this doesn't leave me inspired about the future.

That's exactly how I feel about it.

Brooks is the only person the Wizards met with about the position, according to people with knowledge of the situation.
To make matters worse, it's reported that all five years are fully guaranteed.  Ted has ONLY proven willing to let someone go if they're partially guaranteed or if their contract is up.  He would rather hang on to you to the team's detriment than correct his own bad decision and pay you to go away.

That means Brooks WILL be the Wizards head coach when John Wall's current contract expires...

I'll wish John well wherever he winds up... as long as it's not Cleveland.

Do we have any optimism? Like can we hope that he galvanizes the locker room or something?

If we start playing iso ball like okc we are doomed

Only optimism I'll have is if KD miraculously decides to sign w/ the Wizards.

We're going to be stuck in mediocrity unless something miraculous happens.

Appreciate what Wittman did and that the team supported him. Wish him well in the future.

Reserving judgement on Brooks. Very interested to see how Otto develops under him.

I expect to see Scott Brooks at Ben's Chili bowl with a picture on the wall and hanging around U/H Street in no time mixing it up in the "community" I expressed such fond affection for in his presser.

Not in Tulsa anymore Brooks.

The post is reporting the wiz will offer beal a 5 year max deal
Of course they will.

Even if the Thunder collapse now, odds are Kevin Durant is NOT walking through that door and Scott Brooks will STILL look like Mark Jackson 2.0.

Washington has five players currently under contract for next season.  Shooting guard is one of their many needs.  Beal is the best they're going to do at that position this summer, and keeping him is the only chance they have of sniffing the playoffs next year.  They'll overpay.

In other news, Grunfeld's latest "save my job" acquisition, Markieff Morris, thought it would be a good idea to bring weed to the airport:   http://www.usatoday.com/story/sport...orris-detained-philadelphia-airport/84996726/

welp. GG fellas. Can't support this garbage every year. If your reading this beal, your garbage. Enjoy the $ and playing half a season. Buy a house in Potomac or great falls.
