I don't think anybody had title hopes this year though

Good comeback win tonight, that sequence where Nene and Wall found Beal for 3's on consecutive possessions was clutch.

If there wasn't a shift in Wittman's offensive philosophy, I don't know if the Wizards win tonight. They still look a bit rusty...defense needs to tighten up, but there is a lot to be optimistic about.

Not much can be said about Beal, bruh. :pimp:

The defense was just atrocious tonight.  We're lucky to be 2-1, honestly.  We could easily be 0-3, were it not for some timely shooting.  As great as it is to see Beal stepping up, these first three games have shown some real weaknesses in the roster composition.
SMH front office should have never even bothered paying him

Webster says he has a bone spur on his hip. Surgery could keep him out 4-6 months #WizardsTalk #NBA #WizMagic @CSNWizards

The Wizards just need to waive him at this point to clear up a roster space.

It's now glaringly obvious that the Wizards need help at the 4 spot.  Humphries lasts about half a quarter before they realize he has no business being out there.  Nene's now being used as a backup 5 because we let Seraphin walk without bringing in anyone to replace him.  Dudley is nowhere NEAR game shape.  Blair looks completely immobile now, a shell of the player who once made people question the necessity of ACLs.

The Wizards' relative playoff success made it clear to everyone that the Wizards could benefit greatly from a stretch 4.  That was the piece that would kick the offense into high gear, and we all knew what the tradeoff would involve.  There's merit to moving Nene to the bench in theory.  Offensive floor spacing theoretically improves, creating larger driving lanes for Wall and Beal.  Nene's a capable passer, meaning he could act as a facilitator in the second unit and play with greater activity in his reduced minutes.  It makes perfect sense as long as you have that solid stretch four to replace him with in the starting lineup.

Knowing that, what did Ernie do?  He brought in a bunch of swingmen, of course.  Yes, we needed a real backup for Bradley Beal.  No, we didn't need four of them.

Randy seemingly spent the entire second half playing musical chairs up front.  It wasn't the team's only problem, but it may very well be our most stubborn and enduring.

Dudely I expected to be trash/ a huge drop off from Pierce, just for the fact he looks like the type to get out of shape rather quick and the Surgery he had doesnt really help

I havent watched a game so I really have no comments on the team yet( waiting on my next check to get league pass smh)

Looking at the box score and interviews I'm glad Beal has a pep in his step, I never really thought he would reach this level, Now if Durant is to come here it would be a legit big three not, Wall, Durant and a good 3 and D guard

Lastly what i would like to ask, is whats up with the wall/gortat pick and roll, i havent watched any games but the box score is kinda telling me something cause Gortat isnt scoring and wall isnt having his usual assist total

They haven't been running that very much this year, and Gortat's the kind of player who won't give you maximum effort if he isn't getting his touches.  When they push the pace, Gortat's not going to be involved all that much.  In the halfcourt, it seems like they're making more of an effort to get Beal the ball, and the numbers he's been putting up have justified that.  Even so, the concept of analytics isn't just "3 > 2."  If you have the chance to engineer a very high percentage two, you take it - not just because, statistically, you're generating more points per possession than you would shooting 33% from distance, but also because interior scoring winds up producing better spacing and more open threes.

At a certain point, it's like a boxer that ONLY throws haymakers.  The Wizards are at their best when they're attacking, forcing rotations, and then making the right play.

Criticism of the offense last season focused on the team's obsession with taking 20 seconds to set up a 19 foot jumper via a maze of staggered screens and curl cuts.  It's hard to say, at this point, if the difference in the defense has to do with the higher number of possessions per game, the increased number of long rebounds and transition opportunities created for opponents by the Wizards' deep three point attempts, or the flimsy interior defense you get when you swap out Nene for the likes of Kris Humphries.  (Or, worse, play Nene at the five and leave him out there on an island.  This wasn't a guy known for his foot speed during his youth, and he's been battling plantar fasciitis for the entirety of his Wizards career.)  In truth, it's probably all of the above.

If there is a silver lining to that awful loss to the Knicks, it's that the defensive issues could no longer go ignored as they were when they team was pulling out comeback wins in the fourth.  Thankfully, they'll have a few days to regroup before facing the Spurs on Wednesday.

It's only the first couple games and they're implementing new offensive philosophies. It'll work itself out I think. The problem defensively, is a combo of all the things you posted meth. I think the lack of rim protection with the second unit is glaring. If they can make a deal to get someone and keep drew and Kris....they'll be in very good shape. They have a 20+ scorer, shooting, defense, and good defense with the first unit. Just need someone to keep the defense steady off the bench or if there's foul trouble

Hell of a win tonight! Didn't get to see it but listened on the radio. Beal wants his money.

Beal is making that leap, man. :pimp:

The maturation in his game has been a joy to watch. Shaking the **** out of Aldridge and hitting that huge shot was awesome.

Also...how about giving some props to Randy Wittman for drawing up a play that completely confused the Spurs and Leonard. After being up 19-2, losing the lead, being down by as many as 10, then coming back to win...that's a testament to the resolve the squad has. Let's keep it going!

great 4th quarter by Wall and Beal. That work of the summer on his ball handling is definitely showing so far for Beal he's way more aggressive than last season. Going against a beast like Kawhi and getting 25 says a lot, he worked for those buckets.

Wall stopped fooling around in the 4th after we fell behind and started getting to the line. Otto quietly had a great night too, he was shooting it well.

Back to back games with 24+ turnovers

That inbounds Wall through into a crowd when all Wizards' backs were turned

The season's still early so hopefully the turnovers will drop once they have more time to adapt to the new offense

The turnovers, they're a MAJOR problem

We play against a team that has any semblance of effort, youth and hustle we're gonna lose. Hawks and Celtics won off sheer effort on breaking up those lazy passes alone. Everyone needs to get their heads out of their *****

And pray to all things holy that Beal isn't seriouslu injured or else we're screwed

Martell seems like a nice guy and I hope he's able to resume his career somewhere next year, but it's about time the Wizards moved on.  We all know ownership was too cheap to cut him loose on their own, and this way they have no choice but to fill a vacant roster spot.

Almost every year a "name" player hits the waiver wire.  It's possible the Wizards could adopt a wait and see approach just in case they can use the full disabled player exception to bring in an impact guy, but it's pretty obvious we need frontcourt help ASAP.  The exception also gives the team additional trade flexibility, so there's any number of ways the team could go in utilizing the spot.

Who would you like to see the Wizards add?

Take a flyer on Larry Sanders...if not, Henry Sims or kick the tires on Emeka Okafor.

Larry available? I would love someone like John Henson....dunno what pieces could make that happen. Robin Lopez or Ryan Anderson. I know they're two completely different styles but I think either another good defensive big or a true stretch big
