Wittman has to go, team looks awful and the whole "pace and space" thing was a failure
We didn't have the personnel for that to work, so that's as much Ernie's failure as it is Randy's.

I wanted them to replace Wittman with Thibs this summer, but now it's looking like Brooklyn will snap him up and we'll miss out - AGAIN - just as we did when Atlanta grabbed Mike Budenholzer and our front office sat around twiddling its thumbs after awarding the job to the cheapest, most convenient Flip Saunders replacement imaginable.

"Well that didn't work.  This team is a mess and Flip isn't the guy to clean it up.  We need a new voice.  A new direction."

"How about the guy who sat next to Flip on the bench?  He's already under contract."

"That works for me."

Always maddening to watch the Wiz play the Rockets and Harden. They showed great resilience down the stretch and managed to hold Harden on that last possession.

Good W last night.

Randy's brother, Rick, passed away yesterday so I'm glad we got the win for him.

I'm glad to get rid of Humphries, but trading a 1st round pick for Markieff Morris?  Really?  The protection on that is only 1-9.  And you have to pay this underachiever $8 million a year through 2018, after working so hard to clear the books for next summer!

This is your stretch 4?  A guy who shoots 28% from three point range?  He's been awful this year.

If you wanted an underwhelming power forward to fill out the roster, you could've waited for a buyout, like David Lee, to pick up on the cheap.  This was a HUGE commitment to a proven disappointment.

I've been asking for Markieff Morris for 2 years now.

I'm ecstatic.
Two years ago it would've made more sense to me.  He was on the upswing, he wasn't disgruntled, and didn't have this contract.

What do you see in his game - especially this season - that you believe is well worth the contract and the pick?  I'm not really seeing the superior value above replacement on this one.  If your enthusiasm can somehow get me excited about this trade, I'd appreciate it.

ive always been a fan of the Morris twins skill sets. Markieff is 6'10, stretches the floor, can put the ball on the floor and get past slower bigs. Can play both 3 and 4 spots and some small ball 5. And obviously, he has the tough guy act that I think this team has needed for a while now. He's not afraid to mix it up and most good teams have a guy like that on the roster.

Not really reading too much into analytics and his current percentages. He was literally trying to play his way out of town. It's not a coincidence his play picked up after Watson took over. His ability at the position is something we haven't had in the past 6 years that Wall has been here. provided he's engaged and willing to buy in, I love the move.
I agree that he has what - up until the same ball trend - would be considered a prototypical frame for a power forward.  He's also more skilled at than most his size, and can hopefully defend multiple positions.  Even if he can't guard four spots like a Draymond Green, he's certainly a HUGE improvement in defensive versatility over anyone Humphries, Blair, Nene, Dudley, etc. etc.  That said, he's never really been billed as a great defender.

He LIKES to shoot threes, but his percentage from that range hasn't been anything special.  In fact, his percentage has declined almost every year he's been in the league.  The more he shoots, the less efficient he is.  His rebounding numbers aren't blowing anyone away, either.

If he were a buyout player, I'd be far more excited about the acquisition, but we gave up a lot for him - not in terms of personnel (Humphries was awful and Blair barely saw the floor), but in terms of assets.  I'm not convinced that we couldn't get a better starting four with that draft pick and/or the extra $8 million annually to spend on free agents.

This just seems like another myopic "playoff or bust" move from a GM desperate to save his job.  I hope to be proven wrong and look forward to seeing what he can do for this team as a starter.

This upcoming draft is the weakest since 2013. A lotto pick that's protected 1-9 doesn't really have much value
I wouldn't have been shocked if the team wound up trading a mediocre first round pick just for cost savings, to max out cap space, but this deal actually adds salary considering that we sent back two players and now have an additional roster spot to fill.

Hopefully we'll at least hold the spot open for a potential buyout target.  There's a chance for some value there, especially if we're just in "playoffs or bust" mode now that the pick is essentially gone and there's nothing to be gained by just missing out on the postseason.

With the rising cap....Morris at 8 mil really isn't a big deal and won't prevent them from maneuvering in the summer. If he's engaged and returns to or exceeds his level of play from last year...then it's a bargain actually.
8 mil for a starter under the new cap would be a bargain, no question.  That said, when we signed Humphries to nearly half of that, a lot of people thought that was a great pickup, too, and here we are itching to dump him and he only had one more year left on his deal.

Morris has three more years left.  If he can't reach or exceed his former level of play, that's a problem.  He could be a bust or a bargain.  It could go either way.

In thinking about it, the defensive end is the real key to this one for me.  If he can be a truly versatile and effective defender for this team, he'll be worth it.  (And, yes, toughness helps, too.  They REALLY miss getting that from Pierce.)   We'll see if he's willing to commit to and focus on that end once he's no longer disgruntled.

Get to find out if he was acting up cuz he wanted out or phx or just mad cuz he can't play wit his bro ...or maybe both

I think it was an overpay considering Morris mailed it in all season and everyone knew the Suns had to rid of him.

I would have put a high protection on it, or given up two second rounders instead.

This summer is big. Personally, I don't feel like KD will come here.
I don't see why he would, honestly.  There appeared to be some daylight there last year, with OKC underachieving and Wall really coming into his own, knowing that KD could slot right in and immediately make this team a Finals contender... but now?

If he wants to win, he's better off staying put - or going to Golden State.  If he worried about Westbrook leaving, he can just sign a one and one like LeBron's been doing, and we can't be strung along forever.

That said, there are some really good bigs set to become free agents this summer.  We could've addressed the need then, with all our cap space, and maintained control of the pick to either fill out the roster (we'll have a LOT of vacancies and replacements will be pricier than ever) or use in a trade.

I would be curious to know if anyone else was even discussing a Markieff Morris trade with the Suns.  It's like we were bidding against ourselves.

Although it's a VERY small sample size, it seems like he turned it around once Watson took over...but I do wonder how he'll mesh w/ Wittman

Yea...Buck just mentioned she lives in Clinton.

Hopefully we get the best out of Morris.

This week in desperation:  the Wizards dumped Gary Neal to sign Marcus Thornton.  (At least they didn't wait on Rasual Butler.)

I thought Neal played well for this team when healthy, but with Beal injured (again) and Neal's contract up at the end of the season, the Wizards dropped him like a bag of dirt.  It takes time to acclimate a new player to an offense, so I really don't see how Thornton is going to add value in the short term with Beal out.  Realistically, they'll just have to give Oubre some burn.  Personally, I think they overreacted - unless they know for sure Neal was done for the year.  They would've had the personnel to cover for Beal last night had Anderson not been tossed early.

And how bad did Morris look last night?  If he can't even post up Dame, what did we get him for, exactly?  I'm happy to admit that the Ramon Sessions deal worked out far better than I'd hoped - but I'm really not seeing the wisdom of the Morris trade right now.  You don't need a full training camp to take advantage of a guy you've got six inches and fifty pounds on.

This season is a wrap, complete failure from day 1. This is why you don't try to change your entire identity in one offseason and shoehorn players into roles they have no business playing.

I expect dramatic changes this summer. Everyone gotta go

Haven't been following the team these past few games but seeing the Nuggets drop 41 in the 4th??? What happened to this team defensively?
