MTV The Challenge season 27: Bloodlines Fall/Winter 2015

A lot of people point to the first Vegas season as the turning point, but I think it kinda started a few seasons prior in Hawaii with Ruthie and her alcohol issues. They saw the "value" in selecting some of the most emotionally damaged young adults for the cast, making for some pretty volatile tv moments. Hot tubs, mostly attractive young cast with little to no career goals & free booze pretty much became the standard after that season.
I only started watching The Real World when they aired the first Vegas season, we didn't have MTV in Canada before that, I watched RW regularly from Vegas until the Sydney season. Might be true they changed the type of people they casted. During the Vegas and San Diego seasons it was still very much relevant, you'd see other media outlets report about the Trishelle pregnancy scare and Brad and Robin going to jail. For the seasons I watched from Vegas to Sydney, there were plenty of good cast members that went onto participate in The Challenge.

IMO The RW turned to complete **** when Jersey Shore came around, because they tried to cast more Jersey Shore types hoping to create another hit with super trashy people and those types are clearly just there to be on TV and hopefully become famous, this greatly contributed to the decline of RW cast members going on to The Challenge and having any success in the competitions. With exception of Vegas 2, the newer generation of cast members don't really stand out, the past couple of seasons where the RW season isn't even named after the city are the absolute worst

The Real World came very close to getting canceled. They had to shake it up, and it worked. The Challenge also came close, but the Exes and Rivals seasons saved it.

I can see it and you look at how they depicted and handled Diem's death (which really overshadowed Knight's death honestly) during her last Challenge and showing the relationship with CT but then I tend to wonder if they dropped the ball or realized how serious what they were dealing with was in that RW San Diego season where they cast that cute chick Frankie who had some problems who eventually committed suicide a few years later (the season with Jamie Chung). Like to me they didn't exploit that girl's problems a lot. If anything she was shown to be more of a loner from what I remember.

Since then they've toed the line. They exploit it but not to extreme levels like we're use to on most reality tv. The production company is probably aware of that. So while they've switched the feel of the show they haven't gone crazy. It's probably why they don't have the best ratings when you consider the type of ppl they could cast. It's like they're trying to find their own kind of success doing it.

Frankie didn't commit suicide. She had cystic fibrosis. Most people with it don't reach age 40. She obviously didn't live a healthy lifestyle (smoker), which contributed to perhaps a more premature death. Maybe she suffered from depression and had a death wish, but she certainly didn't kill herself. Also, the show definitely didn't exploit her condition. She was very candid about it, explaining that she knew she'd die before a certain age. She'd come to terms with it.

I still maintain that was the best cast, in terms of cohesiveness. There was some tension early on, like when Robin said Jah didn't look or act like someone from the ghetto and then dropped an n-bomb on some random dude outside a bar and told Jah she said it like it ain't no thang. But, when Robin went to jail, that was the turning point. I'll never forget Jah saying to Robin (about getting arrested) "It's just a fact of life...well, not a fact of life, but you know..." and everyone started cracking up. Also, Jah walking around with the "Free Brad" sign. That season was straight comedy.
I didn't say the show exploited her condition. I said the exact opposite but I would've swore when they announced she died that it was suicide and not her condition. It's been some time though so maybe I'm mistake as far as the details.

Yeah that was a good season.

First Real World I ever watched was Back to New York, 2001-2002ish. Coral and the Miz.

Had a massive crush on Lori

San Diego '04 was probably one of the last seasons I enjoyed all the way through. That cast kept me laughing lol. My favorites might be Miami, Boston & Hawaii '99 if I had to choose.

I'm actually surprised. Seems like I see her in stuff more often than other Asian actresses.

I still remember her mugshot being posted on her and the william hung jokes.

I always thought Jamie Chung was cute and that **** paid off for her.
It's funny because she was like an afterthought during that season, virtually no air time. Then she becomes an actress. Didn't seem like the type at all.

Cameron from that season was nice to look at. robin got those bowling ball boobs.

Back to NY was when I really got in to it as well. Homey with the afro (Micah?), light skin shorty, Coral :pimp: even Miz

I always liked Jamie in the San Diego season even though she wasn't that interesting. Was rooting for the black guy to smash but he never did on the show as far as I remember.

I'm not sure which is my favorite if I go off of memory.
I've seen too many and they all run on. I'd need a list and pics of casts but the one where they had the 2 guys who went to that High end Military school and one of them got kicked off for dating a producer, would probably be my from memory pick.

David from New Orleans wrote one of the greatest songs of all time.

Man that dude was a trip. That song's intro was kind of ill, Like a Shai "oom, da da doop da doop, The very first time, that I saw your brown eyes, your lips said hello and I said hi" type of vibe.

He wore like the same 2 pair of gym shorts for the entire season man. Dude literally came with all he had and got on, I always respected him for that.

Iirc jamie was super quiet but her and brad were good friends right?

I also dont remember but when did we start getting reports of them having to reshoot scenes? Thats when real world fell off.

My fav season drama oure entertainment/drama rwise was probably seattle. That was the one with steven and the vmi guys right?

That was just a complete drama filled season. Who was the chick he hit. She had a problem too right?

^

mosdef24, Kalle? I was searching for Belou from RR Europe just now and a pic of Kalle popped up. I kinda remember her in those white t-shirts and looking kinda stacked.

I liked Belou because she was crazy and European. I remember she brought her baby on the very first Challenge. Some people were like wth. I remember that guy chadwick and whoever he was dating were judging her about it.

"Mad Real World" is easily one of my favorite Chappelle's Show sketches.

And that's saying something because I ******* loved that show.

When he had David on as the musical guest to close out the show, I had to be defibrulated.

I'm not sure if it was you who was asking about her last month. but I looked her up recently too and the internet doesn't have nice things to say about her. I think she had an instagram or twitter but hasn't updated in a while.

I dont think it was me. But the first thing that pops up on google is the tmz article about her restraining order on some rock band singer. Almost every comment on the article is about how she is a delusional drug addict. My first thought was this guys PR team was behind that. But on her ig, which youre right she hasnt updated in a while, theres comments alluding to drugs as well.

I have a bad feeling this show ****** this girl up bad. I could see her getting into hard drugs, especially since she became an "artist" or w.e. She should've just done more challenges, was nice to look at
