whats in a name? VOL....RAVEN symone

If I was Abcde, I'd change my name as soon as I'm allowed too.

I swear parents don't think when they give their kids these ******ed *** names and the kids end up suffering in the long run.

I know a couple of girls named princess, not a fan of that name. Have a friend named prince but he goes by his middle name. My mom didn't like her name so she legally changed it to her middle name.

A lot of parents just give their kids cute names, but don't realize a stupid it will be when they're older.

I know people with the name Princess and Sparkle. At 5 years old thats cute. At 28 you sound like your getting called on stage at a strip club.

What a disgusting person. It blows me that someone as ignorant as her is even given a platform to spew her BS

this whole "issue" is all about conforming to white society

ghetto name now = true african name back when slavery started

the same way mansa's were renamed michael's, everybody name is to be some westernized familiar name

its about control, keeping people within a system down to how they name themselves

I get what you're saying, but people are making up names out of the thin air....and spelling them wrong.

If one really wants to go that route, why not look up actual Africian and/or exotic names with actual meanings?

Fa'eva ain't no damn true African name. What are you on? Olufemi and Kwasi aren't having issues getting jobs. Name them that.

I do have an issue with people denouncing Arabic names as ghetto. Rahim and Amir ghetto if you Black from Philly, but not if you Brown from Pakistan? Miss me with that too.

man ALL of this

like I know
Asian friends change their name from Chang to Charles
Hispanic friends changing Jose to Joe

Also a lot of black mainstream name have roots in African and islam.... Aisha comes to mind,

Nah man, it's coo to have unique names, some of these just be off the wall though. I know a chick that named her daughter Revengeful Vengeance, that's the girl's first name.

I hate when chicks try to turn a dudes name into a girls name, there are some that actually work like Shawniece, Brianna and things of that nature but to have a dude named Malcolm, and the mom names the daughter Malcolmnique or something like that, I feel bad for the kids

Some of these names sound like instagram screen names:lol:

Only thing missing is their birth year following an underscore

Bruh, I was upset, thinking how that would affect the child, mom had no qualms and gave no damns about it :smh:

also to I think it the Facebook generations ... I can make my kids name interesting but that's it , I want to have brief moments of controversy or fame instead of giving a child something to be proud of its already hard being a kid with physical thing you but now you give a child a way to be teased AND open the door for the child to have ill will towards their parent

Surprised I haven't seen anyone mentioned the dude that named his son Galaxy Air.

Ultimately, there's nothing wrong with cultured named. I'm all for that. But the fact remains that we live in a society that frowns upon "ghetto" names. IMO, unique =/= ghetto. But there's something to be said about people that are careless with their children as to not think about the way their names will be perceived in subsequent life. No one can convince me that Fa'eva, Galaxy Air, and Abcde are suitable names for human beings.

Revengeful Vengeance?!? You've gotta be kidding me.

This is my sentiments. There is nothing wrong w/ unique names or cultural names, but don't name your child La-a and think it's all gravy.

Revengeful Vengeance is pissing me off the more that I think about it. How you still THAT mad on the delivery table? Like she wasnt there too.

I think the nurses and doctors should be able to step in and counsel or at least make the mother sit on the name for a day before they put it on the paper.

I'd rather have no name or be named baby john doe than be known as revengeful vengeance.

The way some of these dudes act towards girls on NT in surprised they haven't changed their names to revengeful vengeance

Some of these ghetto names are not African in origin. Many are completely made up. You have a much better chance of getting a job with an ethnic name than you do with a unique name that many of you are defending for the sake of not tap dancing.

like i said its about control

the fact that all a name matters to you all is the context of getting a job proves it

like the point was made earlier, celebs who have kids who dont have to worry about "getting jobs" can be named whatever they want

but when someone who is not celeb (read: not white) wants to get original/unique, all of sudden its all this derision

people of "lower class" are to conform, while people of "higher class" dont

a white demar'shawn will not get called back just like a black demar'shawn wouldn't...

resume's don't list race

^^^^^^I don't even think Demar'shawn is a bad name.

Speaking of celeb kids, did Chief Keef end up naming his kid after a website? I think it was just the middle name but why do that?
