Name the classic albums these rappers have?

Vol. 1??? Lol I don't think I listened to that one since 99. When I think about that one, I think of "I know what girls like, I know what they want", and Sunshine

HAHA! So true. Vol. 1 is 50/50.

Vol 1 got some of his best work but it has some of his worst work :smh:

RD is dope but I was never into it like that. It wasn't called a classic until Jay called it a classic.

Is Piñata a classic?

Maybe not, but that was hands down my favorite album of 2014

come to think about it , volume 2 might be my favorite jay z album.......ive never completely checked out reasonable doubt , im about to though

Vol. 2 can probably be considered a commercial classic if that makes any sense. That's an album I can listen to from start to finish. Well, I never liked the song with Kid Capri. But besides that, it had way too many good songs for it to be considered one of his "lesser" albums.

Nas- illmatic, It Was Written, Stillmatic
Jay- RD, Black Album
EM- MMLP, Eminem Show
Kayne- Graduation, College Dropout
Kendrick- None
Wayne- Tha Carter 2

Vol. 1 >>>> RD

Vol. 2 is underrated as hell. That **** was cold as ****. Played that **** the **** out back in the day.

I skip more than a quarter and damn near half of CD and LR. I know NT loves Kanye but those aren't classics to me. If he cut each into half, much better albums.

How is vol.1 > RD????

When Jay said, "I gave you prophecy on my FIRST joint (RD), then y'all all lamed out. Didn't really APPRECIATE it until the SECOND one (Vol.1) came out".

Lol

No one called that **** a classic until Jay called it one. But I'm not here to argue over Jay albums.

I can't play RD or Vol. 1 without skipping at least 4-5 songs. I would rather hear the best 7 songs off Vol. 1 than the 7 best songs off RD.

I hate when you dudes speak in absolutes like you're speaking for the entire 7 million people in this country.

One reason is people didn't call albums classic the day they came out like in this generation.

And I know plenty of dudes who called Reasonable Doubt a classic and his best.

I've never heard ANYONE call it a classic until Jay did. I was in NY when that **** dropped. Me and you have had this conversation before. If you feel that it's a classic, then that's cool. I hate when I see people call it a classic because other people do and I feel like this happens way too often.

I've always heard "Doggystyle" was a classic. I remember getting that album a year or so after it came out and I couldn't even play more than half of it. Never liked it like that and I always thought The Chronic was 10x better. They're just opinions.

If they're opinions, you need to give yours and stop speaking for everyone. You continue to do that. You're speaking for 8 million people in New York? You're speaking for me?

How old were you when Reasonable Doubt came out? I was an adult in college. I remember driving to Va Beach playing that before it came out.

It was a different era, because an album being classic wasn't something you said overnight. You have dudes who listen to Kendrick once, then run to the internet to give their opinion and proclaim it a classic. People did that with that Drake and Future album. So because a few people said it was classic the day it came out, does it make it classic?

Classics are supposed to be determined over time. You think people were calling Purple Rain or Off The Wall the day they came out?

Just like how dudes will say nobody cared about the album. Even though the album went gold when albums weren't going gold like that back then.

I'm sure there was a good amount of people saying ANY album that's considered a CLASSIC was just that after a few weeks if not on first listen. How many times do you have to view GREATNESS to recognize it? The fact that there is social media/blogs/HitsDailyDouble etc you have a greater chance hearing ANYthing about an album good or bad. Toure gave 4 stars to 'Illmatic' for Rolling Stone 5 days after it came out. Had he been @ The Source instead of Miss Info hailing it a classic before came out would the perception still remain as it being the GOAT?

'Illmatic' had the Source's approval. Same with **** like Blueprint or Stillmatic.

But I don't think it took 6 months to know 'Doggystyle' was special. I didn't need 5 years to know 'The Infamous'/ Cuban Linx were brilliant. Sure there are people that prefer to wait but I don't think GREAT music is that unrecognizable at first site.

I can say about 80% of the albums I consider classics I felt that way after my first 5-7 listens.

I've also jumped the gun on some **** that simply didn't age as well. I personally don't **** with GRODT the way I did when it first dropped. It's only a classic because it more or less cemented that time, but musically there some songs I don't mind if I ever hear again .

But I don't think you really need that much time in the majority of cases.

I REALLY enjoyed Vol 2 on first listen. As homie said it's a 'Commercial' classic ala GRODT or Eminem's

Classics take time but I agree, there are those few albums that you just know from the first spin. I still feel like GKMC is too young to call a classic but that album was special from the day I downloaded and it still special when I play it today.

I think fans are too quick to call albums classic because they feel like it solidifies their favorite artists. I've heard people calling Drake and Cole's albums classics. I've even heard people call Future's albums classic. I personally don't think they've had anything close to a classic.

That album aged horribly to me. I can listen to only three or four songs.

All albums I consider classic I can still listen to. I think it's possible to have personal classics, but most of my classic list coincides with the consensus.

I have a category of albums being classic because of the influential artist it introduced and necessarily because of the quality of the music on the album.

I dont understand the whole it takes time to call something a classic. If that album is great then its great. No matter if it took you one listen to realize that or 20. Now the aging horribly thing, I understand

TPAB is a classic????????

Best album of the year. 10/10 not a skippable song. They all hold a purpose on the album especially within the sequencing Kendrick put it in. So yea it is. Or yall can call it that in 5 years or however long the wait period is to get your album considered a classic :rolleyes

TPAB is probably the MOST important hip-hop album ever. It's def in the conversation.

TPAB will go down as a classic. Joint is too important and K.Dot came correct on everything.

Piniata is one of my favorite albums ever, but I'm with Peep, I'm not 100% sure it's a classic. A personal favorite, but not sure if the wider hip-hop community would embrace it as a classic.

Doggystyle and The Chronic are amazing. Both are absolutely 100% classics.

Illmatic = best hip-hop album of all time.

Black Album to me is meh… I prefer Vol 2 over it. I'd classify RD and Blueprint as classics though for sure.

Sorry I couldn't let this one pass (and I like what you have had to say in the New York thread). How on earth is it the most important hip-hop album ever? There have been many records with the same subject matter before, in fact it was even fashionable in the late '80s and early '90s. And again we have had jazz influences on rap before, something like The Low End Theory being a prime example. To Pimp A Butterfly hasn't even had short-lasting influence otherwise we would be seeing a wave of clones already.
