if she is who you say she is people like her need to be the face of the cause.
not Calvin from Mcdonalds, Boomqueisha the CNA, and three kids
although, id argue people like your family member are few and far between.
i myself have come across (i think) 2 people caught up in that grey area where they made just over the limit for extra assistance but not enough cash to make it.
but i can name over 20 people i personally know straight up GAMING the system
- having babies for income
- selling SNAP to pay for hair/cell phone bills
one family member of mine is almost 40, jusr had her 4th child (for income). was offered a GOOD job with benefits and turned it down so she can keep getting assistance
I feel you. I know people gaming the system as well and they make it incredibly hard for people who really do need assistance. There is no reason an honest person working a salaried position at a "real" job should be worrying about keeping their lights on and feeding themselves.
It just doesn't make sense and it shows the lack of balance. It's why when people say "just work hard and you'll make it" I can't look at them the same. It's not a black and white situation as much as people make it out to be.
This is a woman who worked hard, saved, left the hood, got a home in the suburbs, her own car, everything. She has done everything right and within the law and she is struggling. It doesn't make any sense that this is what America has become.
