meet Terrence Wise, a 36 year old, 2nd-generation fast-food worker

There is an income point where you are actually better off getting government benefits and not working, than getting a job. I have seen it numerous times too. It really sucks for people with low paying jobs like RIP sleazyy RIP sleazyy was talking about. People who are actually trying, but don't really make enough to survive, but make too much for any assistance. Those are the people who really should be getting the assistance, not the people who turn down jobs to keep assistance, while selling benefits and wasting them on rims, hair, alcohol, etc.

thats true.
ive seen it to.
its rare compared to what i usually see, but they exist

The problem now is that we have 2nd 3rd and 4th generations of families playing the same game, never seeking employment, or worrying about who is going to pay for their children's well being. They know exactly how to game the system and pass that knowledge down to their kids, who game it the same way. Having a kid is certainly a right, but receiving benefits and money taken from other members of society is not. Bill Clinton did the best he could at trying to overhaul the system back in the 90s, but finding an actual solution is virtually impossible. I don't agree with the whole concept of welfare, but it would be a nightmare if they just cut it off completely. In the grand scheme of things, it's really just a drop in the bucket compared to other frivolous government spending.

Salient points about women who game the system to their advantage. I think the majority of us, no matter what color knows someone or has someone like that in their family

I have to help a family member afford groceries and electricity because she makes too much to get benefits, and not enough to make all bills on time. She does not use credit cards, nor does she spend frivolously.

She is employed in a salary position for the US government.

if she is who you say she is people like her need to be the face of the cause.

not Calvin from Mcdonalds, Boomqueisha the CNA, and three kids

although, id argue people like your family member are few and far between.

i myself have come across (i think) 2 people caught up in that grey area where they made just over the limit for extra assistance but not enough cash to make it.

but i can name over 20 people i personally know straight up GAMING the system

- having babies for income
- selling SNAP to pay for hair/cell phone bills
etc.

one family member of mine is almost 40, jusr had her 4th child (for income). was offered a GOOD job with benefits and turned it down so she can keep getting assistance

I feel you. I know people gaming the system as well and they make it incredibly hard for people who really do need assistance. There is no reason an honest person working a salaried position at a "real" job should be worrying about keeping their lights on and feeding themselves.

It just doesn't make sense and it shows the lack of balance. It's why when people say "just work hard and you'll make it" I can't look at them the same. It's not a black and white situation as much as people make it out to be.

This is a woman who worked hard, saved, left the hood, got a home in the suburbs, her own car, everything. She has done everything right and within the law and she is struggling. It doesn't make any sense that this is what America has become.

know dudes thats 22 with their own whip and pad with out a college degree cmon man..

Justin Beiber and Miley Cyrus were worth $100 million before turning 20.  Do you see how ridiculous you sound by trying to point out certain examples and thinking that everyone should be able to be at that position?

umm no, you used anecdotal examples of "some dudes you know" which you're claiming now is normal.  Where is your empirical evidence supporting that "those dudes" are what's normal?

You are logically bankrupt, whether they exist around me or not doesn't deem it normal or not as it'd be such a small sample size.

this is NT bruh

i remember a LONG thread about the typical time to move out or something

the general consensus on here felt it was completely normal to stay with your parents til your late 20's
some mocked those who moved out early and felt those that did were trying to show off and were really struggling.

ive had my own place since i was 20 but i was in the military

Who are the people that should be working in the fast food or service industry, that should be comfortable making $8 an hour? Besides students.....

Like what America do you guys live in where there is an overflow of jobs in ever US city and no need for workers in the lower wage industries?

If everyone had the mentality that they will not "settle" for minimum wage jobs, who the hell is going to do that type of work?

That's what I dont get. Like you guys are all talking about they should better themselves and do more... if everybody is doing more then who is left to do less?

Cuz the "less" are still needed, right? How do we have it both ways?
This person gets it. At the end of the day, not everyone has the opportunity to move up. These low paying jobs still need to be filled by someone.

I know a couple where both individuals make more than minimum wage. If they wanted to move away from their parents, they would barely be able to afford it and wouldn't save any money. Something is seriously wrong with the wealth distribution in this country.

a lot of families grow up like that though, you don't move out until you start your own family

yeah, some argued it was cultural

it may be
i doubt its all cultural though

i used to supervise this cat that was 25+
making 50K a year
had 2 cars and a new motorcycle
coming to work crying and complaining about his parents/siblings going in his room when he wasnt

he'd be at work googling Sea-Doo's, safes, and pad locks for his door but wouldnt think of moving out.

i guess man

seems like they are spending money on things they dont need

I love how your immediate assumption is that the person must be doing something wrong. I guess you know everyone's situation.
its not that they are doing something wrong, they are just currently spending money on other things right now and taking advantage of living with their parents (nothing wrong with that)

but if they wanted to get their own place of course they would have to change their life style a bit, spend less on other things and use that money to pay rent

The dream of making it big and being able to be financially stable . When in reality only a select few climb the ranks and become financially better off with minimal emmotional scars
lmao you know nothing.

you are ridiculously ignorant if you think everyone in the military shoots people and gets shot at.

theres only a fraction of the military that actually has a role in combat.

listen to the guy thats never been in the military tell people about the military

and your porn comparison is soooo dumb its disrespectful

How is it dumb when im saying both create broken youth who go into it with no knowledge. And i did not say every gets shot at.

Notnin the military but i do help the men and women who comeback try to find the necessary health care they need becuase they dont qualify for or are waiting on VA benefits.

You only took my shooting comments and porn comparison with deeper thinking about and possibly seeing the comparison.

And entry level military only makes at the most 28k so you in the same situation as the minimum wage worker.

And hownlong do you have to sign up to get that 4 years of promised college?

bruh.

STOP.

thats the nicest way i can say it.

just stop.

Why because im spitting ignorance of the military experience

But you can spit ignorance about the fast food worker or poor people experience.

Tell me in your truth

Right, so you just made a lot of assumptions and ignored what I originally said.
