Edited the previous post and title to add this info.

Similar to my og post, received an email about job opportunities becoming available next week. Please see the actual job posting for "official eligibility" criteria, but generally speaking, if you have received your bachelors within the past 2 years, you can apply DOES NOT MATTER WHAT YOUR MAJOR WAS. If you have your bachelors already, but its been over 2 years (6 years for military folks,) and you have received some form of certificate, technical degree or vocational degree (there may be other possible criteria that you can use) then that can be considered for the educational requirement from the previous 2 years that can meet that criteria, then you are good.

Apply for the jobs (yes, ALLL OF THEM) on +++ usajobs.gov +++ Monday, January 14, 2019 to Friday, January 18, 2019.

This is a paid internship that when completed will take you from a GS 7-11 in 2 years, and from my experience, the "easiest" way to work for the gov/Dept of Defense. More info is below. If you would like to PM for more questions, I will attempt to aid you.

I completed a program similar to this and I'm Happy. I am not the hiring official nor do I know them, just passing on the info.

The following Pathways Recent Graduate job announcements will be posted to USA Jobs Monday, January 14, 2019 to Friday, January 18, 2019.

**** I am not affiliated in anyway with this, just wanna see some folks make that come up. ****

As far as this thread, if folks know of any opportunities, post them here. Other threads have been informative, helpful, and hopefully motivating to others, I hope this one can serve that same purpose.

Highly doubt I'll get the scholarship, but I apply to any and every one remotely near my field of study.

Already thread of the year, thanks OP. Gonna pass this along.

yea, doesnt hurt to try. The DoD-esqe scholarships i put in for in the past i got tho, so let that be motivation.

And it covers Grad school too, good looks OP

the PDF along with the email states doctoral students as well. I plan to send an email asking what sciences "truly make up" STEM fields, cause altho i dont think psych stuff would fit, asking would truly clarify, and i may not miss an opportunity.

Students pursuing degrees related to the following are encouraged to apply:

Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering
Biosciences
Chemical Engineering
Chemistry
Civil Engineering
Cognitive, Neural, and Behavioral Sciences
Computer and Computational Sciences
Electrical Engineering
Geosciences
Industrial and Systems Engineering (technical tracks only)
Information Sciences
Materials Science and Engineering
Mathematics
Mechanical Engineering
Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering
Nuclear Engineering
Oceanography
Operations Research (technical tracks only)
Physics

Good looks Dath.

Cognitive, Neural, and Behavioral Sciences

My BA is actually in "Behavioral sciences," so if i can find a doctoral program dealing with that, and possibly could get some money with this schol, id be smoot sailing.

My wife is looking to get her Masters and PhD in Psych so this could her as well. I need too many prereqs to consider going back for a masters in IS so I hope she can bevefit from this.

Great program, I have a few old co workers that were AF SMART recipients.
The program is very competitive and has it's pro's and cons.Of the three people that I knew in the program they would not cover their PhD.

I turned down my AF PAQ offer (step under the SMART program) , everything that glitters isn't gold.

Do your research, goodluck!

Do you mind speaking on it?
I think a drawback would be the DoD job at the end when you could possibly have better options.

You are exactly right, that is the main drawback to the program. For every year that they pay for school you owe them 1 year of service, it is a 1:1 program. The people that I know in the program repaying their time, 2 people owed 5 years (BS & MS) , and one person owed 3 years (Double BS).

Out of these 3 people, all of them wanted out of the program due to the lack of technical work and being underpaid. This was a huge red flag to me, one guy wanted out so bad that during the government sequestration he was praying to get riffed (let go from the job), so he wouldn't have to repay his time. They all loved the program while in school due to the stipends, 100% paid tuition, and internships. Those are the pro's of the SMART program all of the cons come post graduation, when you start working full time IMO.

If you take a look at the opm website you can take a look at locality salaries. You will notice that the salaries are very low, when you start working after graduation you will be either a GS-7 (BS) or GS-9 (MS) , with an additional salary bonus due to engineering pay grade. While on the engineering pay scale in the SMART program you will get a raise every year. Non competitive raises up to GS-12, when you receive a raise you also go up 2 grades and 2 steps , for example

GS-7 step 1 -> GS-9 step 3 -> GS-11 step 5 -> GS-12 step 7. DoD wise making it to a GS-12 is very good and can open up many doors for you. Most people don't reach GS-12 until mid to late 30s.

You have to do a lot of research and weigh out the pros and cons for yourself before deciding to make a commitment with the SMART program.

Make sure you will be doing technical work to gain good experience, and try to get a location with a good locality bonus if possible  (most likely you won't be able to pick your location).

I received an AF PAQ offer , that I declined due to location and salary. The offers that I received from other companies were double the PAQ starting salary, and higher than GS-11 salary at the location I would have been working. Many companies offer tuition assistance, so don't let that be the only reason to go DoD.

I definitely could see how that would deter you and ultimately became the reason you turned it down.
I guess my perception is clouded as I am and (likely) retire as a gov worker. So I dont see the issue with owing them time. I guess it would be a trade off, college paid for and lower paying job, or higher paying job but paying off loans. I dont know any engineers who arent an 11??

The gov intern program i was in was a GS 7/9/11 program, that is intended for folks who already had there BA. After the program, i was fortunate to go to a command that paid for my masters.

If you complete the SMART program with only a BS you start at a GS-7 , if you complete an MS you start at GS-9.
My old coworkers started at those pay grades as engineers, and I was offered a GS-7 step 1. I don't know a single person that started as a GS-11.

If you have a substantial amount of loans then it is a drawback but less than 35K in loans can be managed quite easily with industry salaries (65K+ starting salary).
Also many people make it into 6 figures within 5-8 years after graduation, so loans aren't that big of a factor especially if your company has tuition assistance.

If DoD had more competitive salaries it would definitely be the best choice IMO.

whats the name of the internship program?

whats the name of the internship program?
I am not certain there is an individual name for the program for these particular jobs. If you were to get the job in Mich, you will be known as a TACOM Intern.

but the "program" that offers these jobs/internship is more of a "hiring pathway."
more info about the hiring pathway can be found here https://www.usajobs.gov/Help/working-in-government/unique-hiring-paths/students/

Take a look at the "recent graduates" tab. There is a pathway for current students as well, but the 4 jobs in the og post is for recent grads.

Tips for applying.

Make an account on USAJOBS.gov, create or upload your resume; please note, government resumes can be as long as you see fit. some have a 3 pager, others have 7-15 pages...just be sure to add your experience and educational info.

When you apply, you will be taken to a assessment/questionnaire. Select expert for EVERY response. "
